I was in the Navy from 1971-1975. It gives me great pleasure to watch what is going on in today's Navy. The folks in this EOD unit are inspiring and All Hands folks who filmed and produced it are pros and should be proud. Thanks for all you do.

@@AllHandsMagazine do you guys have hook ups that.can run.a.guys name that keeps.telling people.on his.youtube channel he was U.S. Navy EOD his name is Donald Eugene Smith of Hamilton Ohio. D.O.B. 07/27/1970 I do believe he was navy but his claims are wishy washy at best he wont say what.his rank was, what unit, where he was stationed before and while.he claims to have been EOD, he says he only did less than 5 yrs in the navy total, and other simple non classified info such as what the crab is, the EOD ethos,.
So many holes in his story. if its an issue can you give.me an email of someone who has clearance to search the data base like i said i dont want any classified info just the basic DD-214 and if he was EOD.

It takes balls to be EOD seriously buy these men and women whatever they want when you meet them. Talk about signing up to be sent straight into danger. Takes a big chest and big balls period.

My Grandpa was an EOD from 54-57 and in the reserves 1957-1980. When he was honorably discharged after 26 years he was a Commander. My Grandpa passed away on August 8th 2024. This has shined a whole new light on who my Grandpa was.

Ah the one dude is a blow hard.
"every U.S. small arms" (trained on).
No, they're not 18B (SF Weapons Sargeant) they're EOD.
      "Combat support"
Again, no. EOD doctorinally are combat service support given their response nature. They can directly support maneuver, yesdoby doctorine, combat service support.
      "We do clearance"
No, just no. You don't waste EOD on the front. Once items are found, yes.
There's more I'm sure and the other techs are spot on. The one chode though, ugh. There's a reason (he's a part of it) the rest of EOD don't like "cowboys."

    • @biggieRickie
      @biggieRickie 11 днів тому

@@daniellim8964 it’s not, a great amount of people who’ve quit on the first week of buds have made it through EOD. The skill set required for buds and eod are completely different. EOD is very mentally challenging, while buds is physically demanding; however I’ve had buddies say the last months of eod are like 2nd or 3rd phase, but that’s after the main selection phase. The first day of prep is harder physically then 99% of eod physical wise. Mentally it’s harder than most of sqt.

We had a kid in my BMT flight (USAF) who said constantly he was going to EOD. Last week of basic on the aerobic run, for some reason, he started mouthing off to a TI. It went downhill from there, he got combative and had to be put into an ambulance. We saw him the next day, he was in his dress blues, wouldn't acknowledge any of us, just got his personal items from his locker and left. Having met some EOD types, I wonder if he really was going to that specialty, given that if he lost his cool in an mildly stressful situation, what would he have done in a real situation with UXO.

You go up to MEPS to get your jobs. If they don’t have one you like you just don’t take a job and go home. Some recruiters might tell you to kick rocks after but most are willing to send you back. For spec ops time positions EOD, Diver, SEALS, there’s another I just forgot the acronym you have to take any job prior and try out for one of these contracts while you’re in DEP. if you get in before you can test for a contract or get selected if you already have you can re rate after 2-3 years once you’re in.

I was on homeland missions with a company of army eod guys as part as of joint task force . I was the Cbrn specialist versed in search and rescue in Cbrn environments and took many classes with them and they were attached to our squads as the explosives experts and these guys are cool. They get the respect that operators get with the down to earth mentality of the rest of us. I’ve worked with rangers as well so if anyone else has as well they definitely know how rangers or the like carry themselves. No disrespect to the rangers either all the rangers I’ve worked with have also been fantastic but you just don’t or I didn’t feel like I could be as friendly with them as the eod guys .

I enlisted in the Navy way back in 1987. I enlisted specifically to become a SEAL. I was lunatic fringe gung ho back then. I ended up getting turned down for SEALs...big bummer. But they tried to talk me into Navy EOD simultaneously. I thought that was an insult at the time. Sometimes...I say sometimes I think I should have taken them up on Navy EOD. Back then in the eighties, Navy EOD was considered to be like distant cousins to SEALs. In particular, Navy EOD was tight with the old time UDT...a lot of UDT guys were EOD qualified. Ordnance experts, basically.

This video is a gross misrepresentation of the Navy EOD community. As a 18 year active member of the Navy EOD community I am able to say the following:
If you screen, and make it through the EOD pipeline you will in front of a computer as much as you are in the field. The EOD community is shifting focus away from "Assault support", so where the team chief in the video says " EOD supports Rangers and SF" That is false. EOD is not some magical secret oasis in the Navy we are not under SOCOM so we are expected to perform at that level with none of the funding. STRIKE is a joke no one uses it because you have to wear a uniform to workout. We do not shoot every weapon in the Navy arsenal, as you saw in the video we still shoot M9 berretta's.. enough said. Skate boarding??WTF? Deployments are non existent. I have been lucky in my career and was able to attach to SF and Rangers, and was able to get a lot of the mobility school i.e. freefall, driving course. the sad truth is that is not our community anymore Jumping and shooting is already being gone away with, so if you what that type of career go else where i.e. SEAL, SF, PJ, CCT. If you want to dive a lot and occasionally blow a block of C4 up, there will be PLENTY empty spot in Navy EOD

I see Xavi and Brian J. have pointed out to you on LinkedIn how unnecessary these types of posts are and pretty one sided (yeah, it’s a small world). I understand your point that this may not paint an exact picture of every day life (and sounds like the future of the community is changing) but it’s hyperbolic at best and irresponsible at worst. It’s a bad look for the community when senior enlisted leaders are throwing rocks like this on YT. Just my two cents. Hooyah and thanks for your service.
PS- If the professionalism of the community has changed so much in the last 20 years that techs aren’t using STRIKE because they have to wear a uniform, that does not bode well for the future. The Teams are learning the hard way how important military professionalism and discipline are, even in SOF. Maybe even especially in SOF.

Why are they doing away with jumping and shooting?

@@Music6710 They’re not. Navy EOD’s required operational capabilities are not changing. But the community is pivoting its focus to a different threat. Back to the water and expeditionary mine countermeasures. Just like we stopped putting heavy focus on MCM during most of the GWOT, it doesn’t make sense to spend all of their valuable time doing failure drills and MFF when the future looks more like a conventional war, not asymmetrical warfare and counterterrorism.

I spent 23 yesrs in service and I NEVER EVER saw an officer do anything really meaningful. So I'm calling bullsh!t on everything that Lt. is saying. She may manage and supervise, but I doubt she's really helping much at the actual bomb/explosive AO.
