- ☠️Welcome back to my channel☠️ After watching Predator and AVP at the beginning of this year I have been dying to watch Predator 2 to learn more about predators and the universe in which they reside. So today I am going to be watching Predator 2 (1990) and I am so psyched to dive into this. Many of you educated me about the Yautja alien species in the comments so I feel like I'm going into this movie with a bit more insight than I previously had. I remember when it came out, people said it was a huge let down for not being set in the jungle and not having Arnold coming back. I always liked this movie and I’m glad that people now finally see it as a worthy sequel.
Wow, that's interesting because I thought it was pretty cool to get to see this city setting! I think this is one of those movies people grow to appreciate much later
It’s not a worthy sequel stop calling it that people are all delusional all over the internet this is the real sequel and the greatest sequel to Predator what people failed to realized is this movie was Kevin Peter hall movie he was the star as the predator for the last time before he sadly passed and he had more screen time so he fleshed out the predator more and the concrete jungle was better setting which also showed our predatory nature as we always killing each other with guns 💪🏾 people always hate it cuz the héroe is a black man and this is to show all the weirdos and Hollywood that we been had black heroes who saved the day and survive a horror movie cuz predator was literally like a monster 👹 a creature and he beat it he killed it 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️and someone managed to earn the respect of the Elder this movie did so many things it was world building and expanding universe way before Marvel or DC ever did it 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️and most if not everything y’all know about Predator lore comes and came from this movie so let’s stop calling it a worthy sequel and let’s call it how it is the true sequel to Predator and the last real Predator movie we ever got can’t nobody portray the Predator as Kevin did he made that his own character he gave it life and made you believe that this thing was a real creature that the government was trying to catch and thanks to Stan Winston also for the amazing effects Two legends may they always rest in peace Kevin Peter Hall Stan Winston Predator & Predator 2 end of story 🥰🥰♥️♥️♥️

@@adriel88_ I think Stan Winston, May he rest in peace, brought more zest to his cult monster in this film, starting from cool new gadgets, and ending with more elaborate facial expressions of the real Predator's face and mandibles, which will look even more intimidating than in part 1, because it is more realistic)

I remember being bummed by Arnold’s absence too. Still, such an underrated movie.
This movie added extra lore to the Predator mythos that have been mainstays throughout the movies and expanded media. The original, this movie, and Predators rank among my personal favorites in the series.

I'm glad that you enjoyed this, Laurenn. For some reason, half of Predator movies fan base does not like this, I guess because Arnold is not in the second film but Predator 2 is still a good movie and Danny Glover playing a badass veteran cop is awesome.

You're right, they used the same actor from Predator for Predator 2. That actor is Kevin Peter Hall, who was the black helicopter pilot at the end of Predator. He also played the Bigfoot Harry in Harry and The Hendersons. He was cast mostly for his height, because the production wanted Arnold to look small in comparison. Given Arnold's 6 feet 2 inches, Kevin Peter's 7 feet 3 inches worked just nicely.
Unfortunately Kevin Peter Hall passed away in 1991 at age 35.

Yeah and it’s always the same reason, it’s not as good as the first. While that’s true it’s still a fun and entertaining movie, I love it personally.

@@countzer0408 nah don’t be scared for me it’s better then the first one it was Kevin Peter hall last time being the predator before he passed he had more screen time and he fleshed out the city hunter the design was also better far superior than the original the tech looked kinda of Egyptian but technological advance alien like 👍 and they got rid of the corny sandals the predator wears most of the time and instead had him barefooted with his sharp claws exposed made him look more scarier when harrigan shoots him down and he’s laying on the floor looks so creepi and scary 😟 the city hunter was a real fucking savage !!!

One of the ost underrated sequels ever made.
It's not exactly T2, or Aliens... but as a sequel to the classic original movie, it holds up extremely well.
It's got everything a sequel needs... different location, tries new things, has a different feel to it but manages to be recognisable as a successor to the first movie as it keeps within canon with the Predator's traits and its choice of location where it's hot as hell and a warzone.
Plus, it's extremely well shot and choreographed.
Critics hated this movie at the time, and called it a video-nasty... but then again, pro critics hated Carpenter's The Thing as well when it was released.
Pred 2 also pisses all over the rest of the sequels.
I mean, Predators (Pred 3) is an unimaginative remake of the first movie, The Predator (Pred 4) is a sort of Power Rangers movie that somehow manages to be even more cartoony than anything Power Rangers ever did, and the most recent Prey (Pred 5) is bland and forgettable.
AvP 1 and 2 aren't canon, and are poo anyway.
The first one has no continuity with location, and the second one you can't see anything because they had the entire thing shot without any lighting.
I feel that the critics don't always get it right (evidence of THE THING, like you said) and perhaps it was just because of the time being in the 90s people couldn't appreciate it. I enjoyed this movie a lot, hopefully as time goes on more people will come to appreciate this movie.
I only disagree with any of this in that I much prefer The Terminator over T2 and have mixed feelings about Aliens (classic movie, but a poor sequel if that makes any sense) but I actually like this more than Predator, which puts it in a very rare class of movies for me.

I wouldn't watch Prey before any of the other ones. It's super lore light and imo is appreciated a lot more if you already know what a Yautja is. Especially with the easter eggs it has.

It didn't get the love back when it came out because people were so into Arnold and back in the eighties and nineties if you made a sequel to the movie that the hero from the first movie lived then it was like a fact that that actor would come back so people just didn't even give it a chance just because Arnold was in it. And it sucks cuz it took like 25 years 30 years for people to finally appreciate this movie that Danny Glover absolutely made this movie his own cuz he knew he wasn't Arnold Schwarzenegger and you had to do something different and The supporting cast of Gary busey Bill Paxton rest in peace Ruben blades and whatever the actress that plays Leona is we're all great in this film love it just as much as the first

This was the first PREDATOR movie I saw and it is pretty bad ass!
Even though critics hated it,it's now considered to be a cult classic among fans.
It was the second film to be released with an NC 17 rating due to the strong graphic violence that was filmwd but cut from the movie, at least 20 minutes of gorier bloodier footage was cut to obtain an R rating. The scenes included More decapitations, skins getting ripped off and people actually being dismembered by the Predator.

This movie came out in 90 but takes place in a really messed up 1997 Los Angeles.
The first time I saw this I wasn't sure I was sold on Danny Glover being the hero after Arnold was so badass.
However it has definitely grown on me as its own unique story.
It's very cool that a Predator gave Danny's character an old gun as a trophy and sign of respect.
Paxton was also in Weird Science and Tombstone, among other, and they are both worth watching. He also directed a film called Frailty: it's really good.☺👍

The lights were Ultraviolet and that was the vision mode that predator had selected which is why he's able to see it

This was pointed out to me. At 5:29 when Scorpio hits the ground, he lands on a picnic table next to a food truck which is open for business in the middle of a warzone. That's service!
Love your reactions. The water in the meat plant just cancelled out the invisibility cloak... the Pred doesn't have a shield or anything. And the Pred can breath easily without the mask. The respirator thing was to numb the pain from being shot. Hope you watch Alien³ soon. Ignore those telling you to not watch it. It's really good.
Ahh yeah, the '80s had a bit of a moral panic about the potential near-future of major metro areas potentially drowning in crime and gang violence. (And the Rodney King riots occurred just several years after this, so it wasn't entirely without reason.) History just didn't end up unfolding as badly as some of these "The Dystopia is COMING!" scifi films liked to use as settings.
I recall many said the predator just doesn't work in a city, which coulda been part of the reason Arnold didn't return or why it didn't do as well. (This movie was pitched to the studio as "putting the creature in an urban jungle".) Makes sense. Part of the fear of the threat of the predator is that in the jungle, the protagonist and group are alone and you have the straight predator-prey dynamic. In a human city, everything is human civilization and technology all around, although I think the near anarchy of constant gang warfare and drug lords did allow the director to create as much of the atmosphere of that "urban jungle" concept as could be done.
I dunno man, it's pretty accurate in regards to out of control crime, especially in LA. The police have lost control there and California in general. Businesses have had to shut shop because of constant looting. Many places just let the thieves walk out with what they want. Security doesn't even bother stopping them. Street robberies and murder is out of control. Tens of thousands of homeless people living on the streets. Needles strewn everywhere.
Without wishing to sound hyperbolic, it's a hellscape.
Aggressive communication is the only way to approach Gary Busey. This movie is so cool. Vastly underrated.
Seriously underrated, especially the cast which is awesome. The first 60 mins is so good.

I remember watching this in the theater when it came out. I was 12. As far as sequels go, I think this one is just as good as the first and holds up well. I love the ending. Both of the AVP movies didn't live up to their hype. After this one, you should watch the 2010 movie "Predators" starring Adrian Brody. It's a direct sequel to this one and ignores the AVP movies.
The subway scene is my favorite killing scene from ALL of the Predator films. Predator is stalking Harrigan's team, killing them one by one, and hes there to kill Leona and Jerry. But, since people wanted to be badasses and pull out guns, Predator added some extra kills.
The 'Want some candy" scene on the subway with the predator coming at him is so spine tingling, it gives me chills every time, no matter how many times I watch this movie. By the look on your face I guess it got to you as well. Loved your reaction, your facial expressions do me in every time. And your so sharp, your intelligence and personality are first-class. So refreshing to see a lovely, classy lady just being herself and have fun while doing it. It is unbelievably crazy insane how taken I am with you, don't know you but I have the biggest crush on you ever, your beauty is just like "wow" and I so so much wish I had the chance to meet you, my goodness you are something special.

He was in a few tv shows before Predator such as an episode of Night Court. In the original Predator he appears out of costume as the Helicopter Pilot that witnesses the Predators explosive end.
Yeah passed away from aids not long after Predator 2. I think it was bc of tainted blood transfusion.

A lot of deleted scenes were filmed or scripted but cut from the movie:
El Scorpio's body disappears from the morgue as Keyes' men take it for further study.
Keyes threatens to have Harrigan fired From the police force should he ever interfere with their crime scenes.
Harrigan does get fired from the police force after feeling guilty over Danny's murder.
The Predator (City Hunter) follows Harrigan through the streets, then walks into a taxidermy store where he touches a stuffed lion until a jogger sees it through the shop window but the Predator cloaks himself (the jogger thinks it was the heat was getting to him) and the Predator leaves the shop.
The City Hunter Predator follows Jerry and Leona into the subway, where the Predator jumps onto the back of the train.
Keyes explains to Harrigan that Dutch escaped from an Army Hospital and hasn't been seen since.
Anna, the survivor from the first film, tells Keyes and his men that the Predator was hunting the men like it was a game.
Ramon Vega actually survives the City Hunter Predator slaughtering the Jamaicans after they ambush him in a warehouse and they were going to sacrifice him. The encounter causes Vega to go into shock.
Ramon's mistress tells them that it was a demon from hell that killed all the Jamaicans.
King Willie's death was a lot different than the final cut of the movie: He uses a gold plated Uzi as his main weapon where he fires of 50 rounds as he sees the Predator jumps from fire escape to fire escape. He slaps another clip then runs out of ammo and uses a sword as his secondary weapon
The Predator jumps 10 feet in front of him and says, "You can't see the of the Demon..." as the Predator was imitating Willie.
An alternative ending was scripted but never filmed as the City Hunter was going to be decapitated by the Elder Predator Grayback, whom gives Harrigan the Flintlock pistol before Harrigan leaves the ship as it's flies off into the sky.
What a wonderful surprise. I was hoping you'd watch Predator 2 sometime. The original jungle hunter design reigns supreme for me, but I do have love for that city hunter design. Predators 2010 coming soon?
I enjoyed the city hunter design myself, was really cool to see the Yautja in a different environment than what we had previously seen. Predators is definitely next for me for predator films and then Prey

There is a 3 books in a series that I love and highly recommend, if you want to read more about them. 1st book is aliens vs predator prey. Written by Steve perry and SD perry. I believe it inspired the character Sanaa Lathan from the 1st AvP movie.
I'm glad you've enjoyed Predator 2 a watchable and fun sequel, I hope one day you'll give the Lethal Weapon movies a watch, I would be looking forward to those, Danny Glover are in those as well!!!

I remember reading an article back in the day (I saw this in theatres in ‘90) that the director stated that this predator was young and inexperienced as was evident by its behaviour such as when it’s being cornered by Gary Busey and the way it reacted. I have to admit that I didn’t make that connection myself when I first saw this movie (I was 19/20 when it came out). Still a cool little detail.
And yes it’s the same actor in the suit, Kevin Peter Hall is his name.
PS. You should watch Prey (2022) after this as there is a fun and direct link between Prey and Predator 2.
Yes , Kevin Peter Hall reprised the role , he was also Harry in Harry and the Hendersons , a way more lighthearted bigfoot movie . Also worth a watch when you can get around to it . :)

When you mentioned about picking up comicbooks, there's a predator comicbook that goes into the backstory about that flintlock pistol that one predator gave to Mike, you'll find that story really intriguing

In the book, when the predator saw their flashlights and radioactive dust, he experienced a strong delight that people were hunting him.
ironically, this movie originally was going for CASTING Steven Seagall in the lead role, but he proved to be too unrealiable at the time, and they went with Glover. I think he did a great job.

I jizzed in my pants the first time I watched this. I had been saving up the hype for several days just waiting to rent it on VHS (this was my first year in high school I might add).
Anyways being a huge fan of the first one, I had heard P2 was very good. Not as good as the first one, but definately a must watch for a fan.
And sure enough, it delivered. It really has that old school feeling to it that I like so much. Sadly it's the last one of its kind.

Yes, it was Kevin Peter Hall in the predator suit in this film, however this would the last movie that he'd filmed as the predator as he'd died later on from complications of AIDS
Fantastic reaction to this criminally underrated Predator sequel. This is one of my favorite Predator movies.
This is one heckuva sequel! Futuristic urban gang warfare cop flick where a Predator decides to crash the party and score a few trophies, and the hardboiled maverick detective who-is-not-too-old-for-this-s#@!-dammit is on its trail. The Predator's one mistake was making it personal. This always worked for me as a follow-up to the first because it carried over that 80's level of sheer unshakable bombast, and I'm always glad to see it get the respect it deserves. First and foremost, it accomplishes what the first film did so well: It is so much fun to watch. Glad you enjoyed it and grateful as always that you shared your experience with us. ^ _ ^
There are a lot of stand alone Predator books. The hero's girl cop partner wasn't killed because she was pregnant. (The same actress played Vasquez in Aliens.) Even though she was armed. A hunter does not kill pregnant prey. Or unworthy prey (weak, unarmed, etc.)

Hi Laurenn!🙂You definitely learn much more about the predator in this film. From the standpoint of the film it is 7 years in the future where L.A. has become very violent. Unfortunately, Kevin Peter Hall (The Predator) died one year after this film, at the age of 35 due to AIDS related pneumonia. He was also the bigfoot in the "Harry and the Hendersons" film. I believe the blood used in voodoo ceremonies is normally chicken blood. You should definitely watch the prequel "Prey" (2022). It is nice to see a strong woman in the lead roll. @@LoveLaurenn - Hey Laurenn, If you really are interested in the whole Alien / Predator Universe, I would recommend "Prometheus" it shows some of the very VERY early Origin story for the Xenomorphs, It is actually a really interesting movie, and I think you would absolutely LOVE some of the references from the first Alien movies, even though chronologically "Prometheus" happens first, it's still super interesting how it ties in so many interesting details, and trust me you won't expect some of the awesome stuff that goes down during this great film. Some people aren't as big of a fan of it, but I thought it was really well done.

The reason why the clan respected Mike in the end is because not only did he defeat the predator, Mike actively hunted the predator and turned that Predator into prey.

Predator 2 is such an underrated movie. Its my 2nd favorite in the series but a real close to the original in ranking.
Imho, as far as sequels go I'd say it's a masterpiece. I love it. I've never got the hate that some people have for this film.

I remember when this movie came out in November of 1990. I saw it in UT during Thanksgiving week and was blown away when I saw the Predator's trophy case, everyone in the theater cheered when we saw the Xenomorphs skull. Oh the one reporter you see is Mortin Downy Jr. he was one of the worst of the shock jock talk show hosts. Even worse than Jerry Springer. And yes Hudson is in it. The first actor to be taken out by three of the most bad ass SciFi characters. Gary Busy's second in command is Adam Baldwin A.K.A. Jane of Canton with Capt. Malcom Renoylds. The lore is that they are methane breathers and the big mask is a respirator and if they lose that they have an emergency breather mask what I call a bailout bottle. They can survive our atmosphere for short periods plus they come from a extremely warm to hot climate that's why they come here during the hottest times and places.

Hi Laurenn, glad you enjoyed this movie ! I did. Luarenn, one thing I liked about this sequel is how it recreated key scenes from the 1st movie and did it better.
1 - when dutch confronts Dylan over the mission is surpassed in intensity when Harrigon confronts Keyes on the stairs over Danny’s death,
2 - Billy’s refusal to run and stand up to the predator is vastly surpassed by willies “ fight” with the predator. The footsteps in the water combined with the enthralling music and the gradual reveal reflected in the water as the camera pans down was epic, You said yourself it was terrifying.
3. Harrigans vow of vengeance for his dead partner was as fanatical as mac’s for Blaine.
4. And Paxton’s character was funnier than Hawkins 🤣😂

The Alien vs Predator comics were pretty good back in the 90's, really interesting ideas of how the Alien/Xenomorphs could create drones through animals. Dolphins, elephants and Storks ect.
Eventually though Capcom would release an arcade side scroller called Alien vs Predator and personally it was the perfect endgame to what was the premise.

When this came out, Danny Glover was already a big name in action movies from the Lethal Weapon series with Mel Gibson, and later made an appearance in the action-comedy in "Maverick" with Mel Gibson.
Bill Paxton was also in "True Lies" with Schwarzenegger, in "Tombstone" with Michael Biehn (Hicks in "Aliens" and Reese in "Terminator"), and in "Agents of SHIELD" with Clark Gregg. He has the distinction of being the only actor killed by a Terminator, Alien, Predator, cowboys, and Agent Phil Colson. 😀
The leader of the Feds, Gary Busey was also an well known name, and had also been in Lethal Weapon. His son, Jake Busey, who looks a lot like Gary, was in "Starship Troopers".
Another one of the Feds was played by Adam Baldwin, best known for his roles in "Angel", as Jayne in "Firefly" & "Serenity", and in "The Patriot".
You saw AVP first . I saw Predator 2 in a packed theater and the reveal of the Alien skull hanging on the wall of trophies got a lot of reactions from movie goers.

It wasn't the water that made the Predator vulnerable. It was just a particularly powerful gun, shot at very close range. The Predator just has good armor and thick skin.

Fun Fact:I met Gary Busey when I was a kid in on a vacation in Tucson,Arizona,my dad shot a Western where Gary played the main villain and my dad had a cameo,he`s a nice dude!
In the novelization of this movie, they actually talk about Dutch breifly. Apparently he got a dose of radiation from the explosion, and was being treated in a VA hospital. At one point he just got up, over powered a guard, stole a car and was never heard from again.
I love that the cops in this movie are basically identical to the cops in Falling Down which would cone out a year later. An over the hill high ranking cop with a female hispanic detective partner chasing someone/something on a rampage in LA during a heatwave with the obnoxious detective in Falling Down modeling his entire performance off of Bill Paxton’s. It’s wild once you see it directly after this.
None of the Predator sequels/spin offs have equaled or surpassed the 1987 original, but they all have some badass moments. The shots of the Predator standing on rooftops in Predator 2 always stuck with me. The Predator is usually associated with the jungle, and that's probably the setting they most belong in, but seeing them in a city is a wild image like you were saying. Danny Glover also has some hilarious LOL moments throughout the movie lmao
P.S. Your reactions were great, and I definitely think you'll enjoy Predators (2010) when you check it out. You can act like The Predator (2018) doesn't exist like I'm sure many do lol I haven't watched Prey (2022) yet but I've heard nothing but good things. A city often referred to as a concrete jungle. I seem to remember that this was part of the promotional material when this first came out saying it's a different kind of jungle.

I met Danny Glover at a scifi convention here in Sweden and got his autograph on my Predator 2 DVD. Really nice man and i told him how much i loved "Be Kind Rewind". That is was a love letter to movies and he thanked me and shook my hand. Met some actors and i have never been let down, well except one i guess. I grew up with this movie same as the first Predator. I still think of all the Predator movies, the first one is the best, but i really love Predator 2. Some people didn't like it when it came out, but it seems recently that people are changing their opinions on it. Which is good. Just because the first movie is better doesn't mean the sequal does in comparison. Sometimes it does and sometimes i doesn't.
The Predator (as well as the Elder Predator) is the same actor who played The Predator (as well as a helicopter pilot) in the first film. Kevin Peter Hall (who also played Harry in "Harry & The Hendersons" died a few months after this film was released.

Yes, the 7' 3" tall actor, Kevin Peter Hall, plays the City Predator in Predator 2 just as he did the Jungle Predator in the original film. Unfortunately, Kevin has since passed away.
It's quite tragic, really. He was in a bad car accident. He got a blood transfusion that saved his life. The blood was tainted as it was infected with AIDS. Kevin contracted the AIDS virus and ultimately died. The irony is the very blood that saved his life also took it. 😔
Kevin only played the Predator in the first two films. But he also played Bigfoot in the movie Harry and the Henderson's.
Ian Whyte played the main Predator, Scar Predator, in the first Alien v Predator and then played the main Predator, Wolf Predator, in the sequel, Aliens v Predator: Requiem. Ian is also in the seven foot tall range. Like seven one or two. Something like that. -OG

others have said it, and I'll agree, it's the sequel that isn't exactly a sequel, it can stand alone but it really benefits from the previous movie too. much like aliens and Terminator 2, it doesn't have a distinction of being the first, but it's a heck of an addition.

I still hold it up there as my second favorite film of the Predator universe, though I appreciate what Prey attempted for its Hulu continuation on the storyline.
