Religious Student Sues School Over Secular Rules | Nick De Bois | Jo Tanner

  • A student, contesting a "prayer ban" at Britain's reputedly strict Michaela Community School, is reportedly receiving substantial financial support from public funds.
Situated in northwest London, the school is currently facing a High Court challenge from a student who argues that the school's policy effectively amounts to a ban on prayers for Muslim children.
Founded by Katharine Birbalsingh, an advocate for education reform, the school's policy is under scrutiny. Birbalsingh, in a recent social media post, expressed the belief that for multiculturalism to flourish, every religious group should be willing to "make sacrifices for the sake of the whole."
Nick De Bois speaks with political strategist and former advisor to Boris Johnson, Jo Tanner.

It's like going into an Italian restaurant, and demanding to be served Chinese food. If a parent said "leave my child alone. We have our ways of doing things and it doesn't hurt you. So let us live our life our way" would that parent be "demanding special treatment"? Or would it just be demanding legal protection from interference from government workers?

You cannot be forced to allow your tax dollars to fund any type of religion.
This is the only reason our countries are peaceful and don’t have weirdos that do suicide bombings. Nobody is forced to pay for, or take part in any religious practices. That’s what private school is for, everyone is being treated the same.
A “prayer room” on tax payer funds?? Do you know what kind of ripple effects that would have on religion and government? Do people understand that depending on the demographic of the community, tax payers will be forced to put more and more money into accommodating the most popular religion in each area.
This is absolutely ridiculous that we are questioning this.. when we already KNOW that freedom of religion means freedom from religion as well!
Religion is a personal choice on a family by family basis. This is dangerous!! No to h tax payer funded religion!!

I can see the point of the teacher that kids shouldnt be walking around at times out of school hours as thats for learning. She is there to learn education . Something fundamental is at stake. Are schools there for the education of children or there to meet the demands of the various religious needs of individuals? State schools are, by definition, secular and if parents want their children educated along faith lines then why send their children to state schools and not faith schools. This is nothing more than attempts to subsume state education by religious demands and the state has to kowtow to the demands of some ethnic or fanatic group.
