I really wanted to give Pop OS a shot. I tried it and loved it. I have run it in VM and flashed it from USB several times. Finally, I did a dual boot, I installed it but to my surprise connecting several monitors (I have three in total) was just not possible. After hours of tutorials, gave up. I guess I will have to stick with Ubuntu.
Thanks for the tutorial either way.
I'm not super experienced with Linux. Pop OS is actually the first distro I've ever installed. I just wanted to let you know that this was not an issue for me on the current version so it might be worth another shot! I love this distro so far and I'm really enjoying learning my way around Linux.
there are good improvements in this release
You know how to write
Shoutout from another Michigander switching from windows to Linux
Finally i can spam my fav youtubers in dms with "when are you switching to linux"
Jay, I followed your procedure and ran into some bizzare problem. After the presentation screen for the installer appeared on the screen, some 10 seconds later, the software switched to terminal mode. I tried both isos with the same issue. A md5sum run to test software began but did not complete properly..
Finally, I read somewhere, that Desktop systems with wired internet should unplug same. Once I removed the internet connection, and retried the installation, it completed successfully.
POP OS does not want an internet connection during the initial boot to where the live demo mode is presented.
The same identical issue occurs with the 21.04 (actually 21.06) version.
so, this means unlike other linux distributions, pop!_os lets you select the external or internal hard drive or solid state drive that you want to install to. if so, this is great! it means beginners don't have to hassle with the partition manager to download Linux on a external hard drive or solid state drive
Installed the OS on hard drive but restarting takes me to live session again prompting to install again. Removing the USB stick, says there's no OS installed. Anything I could have messed up?
Same. Have you found a solution yet?
@@madscientist7430 did some of you found the solution?
@@lybra7894 yes, for me i first needed to change it to the correct drive, then i needed to actually remove the USB stick before booting back up
@@madscientist7430 could you break down the process, please?
I was here to learn about Advanced partition but u escaped from that and chose the easy option. Everyone can do that🎻😏
loving it
Thank you for making video! Appreciation
Thank you so much for a simple explanation video 😊
I like how much effort you put into making and updating your videos. just one request stop doing straight forward installs and start showing custom installs. what does "/", "/boot" etc actually means and how much space should we allocate. how to dual boot various systems.
Looks fun, clean and fresh
Jay, may I suggest a video about the steps to take when something goes wrong with an update and your pop os crashes to the point you can't even get the login screen. That happened to me this past Saturday. My pop os was at 20.04 and asked me about downloading the 20.10, after that the pop shop crashed. I thought a reset would do but then I lost access to login page.
hey! how did you fix it then?
6:04 my dell laptop doesn't show the welcome window, when it finishes installing I click 'restart device' but it didn't install, it showed up with the installation window again and again. How do I fix this?
After installation, pop _os can not adjust the computer screen brightness in my laptop. How can I do
did this video really just show where to download the OS and then skip to the part where it's already installed?
I tried this few hours ago but encountered hardware error during installation, not sure if it has something to do with the firmwares and my amd gpu. I'm using dell laptop btw even had a trouble with uefi turning off the secure boot and turning on the legacy on the boot
I tried different usb keys and different usbimager thinghy, but it won't appear in the boot menu
I just finished installing Pop! OS, the final step is to restart the device, or shut down and start later. When I restart the device a screen showing Try or Install Pop! OS appears. From what I've seen this is just a normal thing that happens, then when the white text starts flashing through the screen, between all of the OK's there is one Failed I can see for a brief moment. Then the Pop! OS installer shows again as if I hadn't installed it before. How do I make it go away, since all of the functionality is there, why does it keep asking me to install?
Thank you very much.
Hi, so i'm trying to install an os for the first time on a pc i built, and i think the wifi card is NOT compatible. i've been trying to troubleshoot for ages on this, but how do i install a driver to make it comptaible if i'm not on wifi and thus can't seem to download any packages?
stuck on console with booting live install
there must be something you need to do in the Bios that this video skipped
I burned the isolated to DVD, booted to it. Been running scripts for over 30 minutes and I see a red failed gnome manager and I never got the install menu
Question?: Thanks for the nice video. My question is based around the problem that when i have mounted the ISO unto usb and turn on the laptop to boot. It doesnt go into the installation menu, but instead goes to a black screen with the message: GNU GRUB version 2.04 minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word. TAB list s possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists poissible device or file completions.
If it is a common problem or not would be happy to fix it. Maybe you know how to fix this?
Best regards!
CT
I was waiting for the custom installation process... Anyway!
Is there a way to do it without a USB? I don't have one. If not then i will get one.
I have an issue
When I click restart it restarts my computer and I have to go through the whole process again…anyone know what I’m doing wrong?
Where's the link to the USB imager?
My laptop has AMD Radeon Graphics card whether I can install Nvidia version? Please suggest
Can you possibly doctored 8n depth video by chance? I honestly hate using Windows 11 and Pop Os seems nice as hell so far from what I've looked into. K8 da just stuck though. Still gotta watch more videos on it all but yea.
help not showing my c drive on installation window
Thanks 😊
It says *could not install* I tried to reboot, reinstall but it stall say the same thing *could not install*
It's seems i cant install Pop OS 20.10 to an NVME 4x drive. Anyone having this issue? In your video you actually installing it to a NVME drive, did you do something special in the BIOS.
I had the same problem dm on insta and I'll send the link
Ok and what do I do after I have flashed the drive? Will it be unusable?
I have a LG Gram notebook. Do I need make changes on Bios to install Pop OS?
cant i install linux without usb flashdrive or anything external
Do i need to turn off secure boot in order to install pop os because otherwise its saying verification failed?
HI Sir Can we add a Login page background as i'm struggling to find that option or there is nothing solid info available on the internet , a help would be greatly appreciated
I have problem with installation. Copying files ok, check or configure hardware and crash :/
idl but after my Pop os upgraded to 21.10, it became much laggy and the screen started tearing. I tried to roll back coz I had the 20.04 iso, but it didn't help, so had to reinstall.
I use Balena Etcher
what about partitioning?
I tried installing Pop os Nvidia but its not detecting my GPU.
How do we solve the session screen to be 800x600? Thank you buddy
sir, i have one accounting software and one banking software, which works only on windows ,
so, is there there any feature / opitons or tricks available which helps me to play that banking and accounting apps.
can virtually we play winows in pop os?(means virtualbox works on popos?)
@boulderguy888 why?thanks for reply.. already tried it on wine but didn't work, current using win10 as guest in virt-manager for it , in my arch (host )
Will the erase option for install only erase files on that drive? I want to install it for dual boot on a 100gb leftover SSD without overwriting my Windows install on another.
it will only erase the drive you want to install on
haw do install pop os for someone else by creating account later not doing current process
I have a question, if I wanna install it in a external hard drive or usb for example will it be shown on the "clean install" option? and if so the bootloader will be installed in the usb and not on my regular SSD?
I have the same question
Hi could anyone help me ? I just bought a Omen 15 , it comes with only one NVME but I already bought another one, so I want to keep a dualboot setup , with windows in one sdd and popOS! In the other one, there is some installation walkthrough to do this ?
I would like automatically boot on popOS
Install the new NVME. And remove the one with Windows. From there insert your install media for popOS. Follow the onscreen prompts for the installation. Afterwards shutdown. Insert the original NVME without removing the second one you purchased. Turn the device on and boot to BIOs. F10 for HP systems. Navigate to your boot options and change the boot order priority making the popOS NVME the primary boot device. Doing so would require you to click F9 on start up to access the boot menu. should you want to use the Windows drive.
Is there a way to install Pop OS but using your own partition table(boot, root swap home, usr, etc,) not the default? Thank you.
Pick "Custom Install”, there you will be able to set your partitioning liking.
Custom, baller.
I need manual partition.....😢
Hi again, I have what is probably a dumb question but here goes. If I have a Windows laptop with 2 SSD slots can I:
remove the windows SSD,
insert new SSD into 1st slot,
install pop is on this SSD t
hen put windows SSD back in using the second slot
and use this setup as a dual boot or is there some magic I still need to do?
I was going to use just 1 drive using the excellent instructional video you previously posted but I was gifted a 2nd ssd and I'd prefer the above setup if it's viable. I can't seem to find this particular setup described anywhere so I was hoping you might know.
Oh the laptop in question is a gen 1 X1 Extreme.
Thank you so much.
Christopher
PS. I've seen one instruction where I do the above then use sudo update-grub but pop uses System.d (unless I'm wrong) so this won't work to let pop boot loader know about the windows SSD.
I was told by Joe Collins not to do this... not with Windows 10.
@@Germoney2000 thank you for the info. it's too bad this won't work. did you receive an answer as to why this shouldn't be done? Thank you again.
@@Christopher-today I'm assuming Windows 10 is so agressive that it somehow manages to get control over everything. Joe told me with Windows 7, it wouldn't be a problem. Why don't you do what I did... Remove the flash-drive with Win10... (save it)... Install Linux (whatever flavour) on the other drive and try it out for a month or two... if you don't like it you can reverse the process. Right now I'm using Ubuntu Budgie and I'm never going back... I do need a new Printer (HP) but that's no major problem. (You can mail Joe over at EZEE LINUX)
@@Germoney2000 thank you for the additional info. I’m already a Linux user, it’s my primary platform for doing development but I’m a neophyte when it comes to setting up systems for things like dual booting. I guess I’ll go with your basic plan and just use my Pop OS distribution and when absolutely needed I’ll just use an AWS Windows Workspace instance. Thanks again. Christopher
@@Christopher-today When I think about all the times I paid for a new Windows, starting with Win3.11 all the way up to Win7... all the times I needed a new PC (bloat) and all the times a perfectly good printer became useless.... and that I can do everything I need on Linux. Why would I ever go back to Windows? Linux nowadays ain't what it was way back when. Have a happy HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
My resolution is stuck at 640X480.

The new pop shell in Awesome 👍
That's a customized gnome-shell
@@omegaui I'm talking about window tiling
now all i need is a usb drive 👍
is that mycroft?
Well, you're early.
1 Like for the metallica T-shirt
drive encryption ain't good idea at all == file system easily can be corruped by hella dozen of reasons (voltage spike, bad driver...), password could be lost, significant slowdown for io ops. Btw, modern hdds w/ fancy volume are mostly shingled, so they're already sadly slow. ;D
It's a good idea for security since people can't just take out your hard drive and take all your data
@@killertigergaming6762 they can take you out & you will grant them full access to all data on hards. 2nd way is, intruders can plant spy devices (mics/cams) in your den to grab your passwords. 3rd method would be, they hack into your smart/home devices to spy on you. In short, the're too many ways... if you really have some very valuable info to hide == you need guys a-la blackwaters to guard you & your $h*t. But their loyalty ain't more than loyalty of a prostitute ;)
Doesn't work smh
last time i was this early i was put in an incubator......JK lol
Using that censorship pushing trash firefox on Linux is a crime.
:)
Jay, I don't want to be rude or something but this video is pointless. The process is always the same. Regarding installation, anyone with a minimum Linux knowledge can install any distro.
What could be really useful is guiding an upgrade of a productivity machine since that's where errors may arise and the community is struggling at this point. If you look at the community on Reddit, a lot of people don't know how to upgrade and they are breaking their installations.
@nunya Ikr. He literally says it in the first 30 secs...
USELESS
Haven't you already made installation videos for PopOS? They're all the same. This is unnecessary content.
I'm Installing PopOs 20.04 LTS and it gave me an error saying I need to start the kernel first? How do I do this?
Disable secure boot
Is there a way to connect pop os in active directory, like ubuntu 20.10 ?
Not that I know of
