All your video methods seem really professional and when i looked down at your subs i expected at least 100k but only 359?!?!?!?!? I guarantee if you keep going at it you will be known as one of the top tech youtubers.
I have been looking for a comparison between these headphones, and this is such an amazingly professional and in-depth video. Exactly what I was looking for, thank you 😃👍
Since you are mentioning impedance, also mention the sensitivity. It will alleviate the misconception that lower impedance headphones are easier to drive. The biggest difference is that one is open-back and other is closed-back. A lot of the other differences are tied into this so it might be better if you lead with it. At 4:35, you seem to be trying to make a joke, but it is ending up sounding like an unwarranted criticism. Open-back headphones are not generally meant for portable use, so you can't blame them for providing a 1/4 inch jack.
What I said in this review was: "m50x has 38 ohm impedance, and HD598 has 50 ohm impedance but have higher sensitivity, both are easily driven by a smartphone.", so I did mention impedance being higher on HD 598. Can't blame them for 1/4 jack because it's not for portable use? I really don't think that people buying HD 598 have 1/4 jack on their desktops or even amps, as most budget amps (or DAC+Amps) have 3.5mm jacks, and if you have a better DAC + Amp combo, then you're probably looking for a higher end headphone.
You misunderstood me. As you are doing reviews, I was saying it might be a good idea to mention the significance of sensitivity (as in numbers) along with impedance so as to better educate your viewers. A lot of people only look at impedance and make mistakes. Also, most budget 'desktop' headphone amplifiers have 1/4 inch connectors. True, desktop PCs and laptops usually have only 3.5mm connectors and only a few portable DAC/Amps have 1/4 inch connectors.
kinda weird comparison, I don't think they overlap too much on their purpose, the ATs are closed back work cans, for djing and monitoring, while the Sens are open backs that perform way better for recreational listening.
Firstly excellent video and it was very detailed video but I still have some doubts, new to audio. Q1) I currently own a pair of ath m50x I find them uncomfortable so planning to sell them and buy HD 598 is it a good idea? My main use of any headphones is watch movies, sight gaming and listen to rap music. I don't record music or do any studio work. Q2) Which amp/dac do you suggest using with the HD 598 and will enhance the experience(if I end up buying)
1) Yes, I think that it's a good idea. 2) Fiio E10K is still the best value DAC+Amp for HD 598, it does improve with better DACs, but you'll have to spend 6-7K on DAC only for a relatively insignificant improvement.
Really good and accurate comparison. I own Sennheiser HD 598SR and Audio Technica ATH-500PROMK2. I use Sennheiser for gaming and movies and some music, ATH-500PROMK2 for electronic and hip hop music. For build quality Sennheiser is far better than Audio Technica, earpads and some parts are broken for my Audio Technica, while my older Sennheiser HD 349 still works great.
+Batbayar Bazarragchaa Thanks, and its good to hear the comparison between your headphones, 500PRO Mk 2 are even greater in contrast than the M50x in comparison to HD598, so they make a great combo.
Excellent analysis, and covered so many important points that most other people did not - actual sound problem in office, classical music. Very clear and precise words, really excellent quality.
Yes iam new to headphones. Iam wanting some with really good bass but great sound quality. I listen to hip hop, country, pop, and rock. Any suggestions??
@@TechReflex no! I like quality I love hard hitting bass but that is clean and accurate. I was thinking about the v-moda m100. Out of these 2 the audio technica ath-m40x and the v-moda. What would you suggest. Thanks verry much friend.
M40x bass is very clean and accurate, it does hit hard when the music has a good mix, haven't tried vmoda (they are more v shaped) but m40x is the best deal in its segment for those who like quality and accurate representation of sound. Much better than m50x, I have both.
Sir, can you please tell me where sennheiser 4.4bt stand against 598 SR, I'm not concerned about Bluetooth but sound. And one more thing Sir bayerdynamics DT 770 PRO 32 OHM is available for 9k. Can you please tell me what will be the best choice among 598, 4.4bt and dt 770 pro? Thanks in advance.
Wired will sound much better and will be more comfortable, HD598 is open back with mid range focus, and dt770 will have a more of a v shaped sound signature, and it is also closed back. So choose according to what you listen to, electronic music = dt 770, classical and vocals centric music = 598
Hi. Great Review ! I am planning to buy some good headphones but now I'm stuck between HD 598 and DT 770 pro 80/250 ohm. I have LG v20. I listen to all genres but mostly pop/hip-hop/punjabi/psychedellic rock. I've read that dt 770 has like 75% of the soundstage of HD598 but recessed mids and spiked highs. And HD 598 is lacking in bass(though I'm not a basshead but i prefer decent bass). What would you recommend? And is my lg v20 enough to power 250 ohms dt770s on high impedance mode?
I don't have experience with DT 770s yet, but I have heard that the treble can get harsh. I think that it should definitely be a better choice than M50x, and for you, may be better than HD 598, as HD 598 doesn't have a very intimate sound (sounding close to your ears), which might not have that headbanging effect you may have with headphones like M50x/DT 770. You can always tame the highs using an equalizer, and LG phone will have that option easily available. That being said, HD 598 is definitely not lacking in bass, I've talked about that in detail in the review, so I won't repeat myself, but again, that bass type might not be the best for your preferred genres. I'd say that you can safely go with DT 770 pro, your phone should easily handle the 250 ohm version, and you can always use EQ to remove any harshness. A closed back headphone will also suit your choice of genres better.
Advice Please: I'm looking for headphones that I will use primarily for pc gaming, and less often for movies/music listening. I'm currently leaning towards the Sennheiser 598 Cs, but am wondering if there's something that might be better, and would appreciate suggestions. My main priorities are comfort, durability, and good surround sound. Comfort is important because I often sit for several hours at once. For durability, I take good care of my things, and am not too hard on them, but I prefer something well made, with few reviews of breaking issues, that will last me for some years. My current headphones that I'm replacing (Zalman ZM-RS6F) have lasted me 11 years. The surround sound is important to me for gaming, to tell which direction things are coming from. As for audio quality, I'm not an audiophile so I think as long as the sound is fairly good, and not actually bad in some way, that it should be good enough for me. I also don't need a built in mic, since I use a condenser mic on my desk. Thanks!
Thanks for the detailed feedback, really appreciate that. HD 598 CS should really fit your requirements, even if something better exists (which I highly doubt), it wouldn't be as comfortable as HD 598 CS. The highs on these headphones are quite different that typical gaming headphones, which emphasize the high frequencies to make it easier to hear footsteps etc., but I don't think that should affect how well they work as a gaming headphone, and that's actually going to make these less fatiguing to listen to for prolonged duration, which is much more important in a headphone.
Hello dear.. Sennheiser New Model(upgrade of HD 598) HD 599 Available at $185 & this 598 SR at $172. There are not much difference in price. As Hd 599 newer model it might be improved over 598? So what is your advice ..Which is better ? Its worth to pay extra price for HD 599? I will first focus on soundstage & than secondly Comfort.. Thanx & Regards.. Raju G.
HD 599 is a bit better than HD598 in terms of clarity, for a $13 difference, I think you should go for it over HD 598. Though, I've read that HD 598 has a little bit better soundstage. I don't have experience with HD599, but if I had to choose, I'd go with it, as I find HD598 to be a little too distant, and lacking in clarity a bit.
These are the only ones I can find at the moment in India: www.headphonezone.in/collections/headphone-accessories/products/dekoni-earpads-for-audio-technica-m-series
Very good and honest review! Thorough and informative. This is a real review and not an advertisement disguised as a review. Enjoyed it tremendously. Just subscribed! Keep it up! Thanks a lot.
Hello +TechReflex, I was wondering which of these two are better for me, I ordered the ATH-M50X but maybe I rushed a bit too much before analyzing which was my best option, I'm looking for some headphones mainly for gaming, so will the HD 598's will be better for me for the open back and soundstage for games? I play mostly RPG and Shooters like PUBG. I find the M50X's comfortable so far after two days of usage, but I'm thinking to refund them and get the HD 598's either SE or SR
Hello, I ended up buying the Sennheiser HD58X Jubilee, by massdrop and I think they're excellent with better drivers than the 660s for a 150 dollar headphone it's really good
TechReflex - I was confused between these two models and when you said - one is a tool the other is a media consumption headphone - that basically summed it up & my decision was made. I am getting the HD598-SR for ₹9499 or roughly $134 - do you think it's a good deal or should wait for some offer?
It's a fair deal, the lowest it will go now will be around 9,000. So not a big difference, though, getting 10% card discount on Amazon always makes things cheaper.
Depends on what you call work. If you want just sound coming from them, low volume, cushion sound, no bass impact, no sounstage etc. you can use with any mobile, unless you have LG G7 with dedicated quad dac. If you want to experience true power, go with the DAC. Otherwise, don't go with either.
Sennheiser 598: How good these are when we use with iPhones and/or iPADs? I have the IPP 10.5 and need to know if the volume can be compared to the EARPODS (or Airpods). Thanks
Hey i bought the HD 598 sr after watching this video... My only problem is when I'm using this with my redmi note 5 pro..i have to keep the volume at least at 60% otherwise I sound is very tiny... Should I buy a headphone amp or dac? What do you suggest?
@@TechReflex what about fiio e10k, does it work with Android, most of the fiios are advertised to work with iPhone /ipad.. How do they perform with android?
Yes, Fiio E10K also works very well, in fact, I used my E10K with a USB C to Micro USB cable to use it with both my PC and phone. It works very well. Though, your phone should be able to supply enough power, which I think most modern phones can.
@@TechReflex thanks for the reply.. I must say the number of subscribers you have don't do justice to the quality content you make... I hope you will make it big with this channel.. Good luck :)
+Mr. P Check out Sennheiser HD598 CS, they are closed back version of HD598, and should be much more comfortable with glasses. If you have a store nearby you could also try Beyerdynamics DT770 and see if you like them. Otherwise if you don't have a problem with sound leak and lack of isolation, HD598 SR is the best option.
Confusion cleared.. Ordered 598 sr for watching movies.Good review very nice critical analysis and comparison ..very helpful to resolve dilemma keep it up!
I've both these headphones... And I find the HD598 SE to be very comfortable. I agree with everything he's summed up. As for the build quality issues on HD598, I'd like to point out that my friend had HD518 for 4 years and he'd dropped them 5th floor twice and they still sound great. He's sat on them accidentally, kicked them around when drunk and still they haven't given up. HD598 has the same kind of build as HD518, so we can expect them to last as long too...
Finally, a young guy that knows what he is talking about and discuss the whole audio spectrum instead of just stating what others have stated. Correction: open backs do feel like listening in a concert IF it has a really good imaging. Sometimes I feel like I'm in the cinema with my msr7 even tho it's closed back but have a really good sense of imaging.
+swadhin nayak It will sound 'good' directly out of phone/laptop, but of course, separate DAC and AMP will make a significant difference. Don't worry about it too much though, it's not big enough of a difference to affect purchase decision, and HD598 is low impedance headphone designed to work well with phone/laptop.
TechReflex I was looking up on Amazon.in...The HD598 SR is listed at 7999 while the HD598 SE is listed at 8690...Is there a difference between the two?
Get the SR, it's an updated version with a cable that has a microphone, it also has a different headband. The drivers are exactly the same, so there's not a big difference, but having a mic is better than not having a mic.
I listen to a lots of rap but also Jazz music, I travel a lot but a I'm a gamer too (Cs:go so I have to hear the footsteps) ... Which one do you advice me ?
I bought from eBay, you can buy on Amazon US, or other places depending on your country, if you're in India you can buy from headphonezone.in, they have dekoni earpads.
I’m looking to get the perfect gift for my boyfriend. He’s a pianist and is extremely passionate about his music. My greatest concern is the ability to hear extremely high and extremely low keys on the piano. Also being able to play for long periods of time without feeling discomfort or the need to remove the headphones. If possible please let me know what headphones are the best to get for the gift (between these two or any other headphones that may be better) Thank youuuu :3
+Beca Guabzz Since I also play a piano, I can tell you that HD598 will be perfect for this application. In addition to sounding great, the open soundstage makes it VERY good for instruments like piano, and gives them a very 'emotional' and complete feel. 598 are also one of the most comfortable headphones on Earth, you almost don't feel them on your head, it can also be driven easily by the in-built digital piano amps. I personally use it a lot while playing piano, and it would be very difficult for any headphone to beat it, especially for piano, with its excellent combination of sound quality, soundstage, tuning, weight and comfort. Just understand that headphones need a break in period, so will sound the best after 20-30 hours of use.
Hey dude....can you please compare HD598SR vs HD599. I bought HD598SR 89€. But now I have HD599 for 79€. Is it worth to go for HD599? Please suggest. I heard many reviews that bass is pretty good. What do you suggest.?
amazing interview! i need to ask one more thing ; i want to hd598 so hard but what your recommendation? fiio amp or? just need asus xonar sound card? which one you choose? @TechReflex
+The Optik Fiio amp will be better and more versatile (I even use it with my phone), has some advantages like being outside of your PC. Asus Xonar has multiple versions, some offer features like surround sound and 7.1 channel support. If you need those features Xonar can be a good choice. And the much more expensive Xonar can have better amps than Fiio with more power (check specs). If you already have Xonar then Fiio won't be a big upgrade, and if you don't plan on getting something like HD600 or planar magnetics, Fiio has enough power and quality for HD598.
What an incredibly helpful video, TechReflex. I'm amazed and really appreciate all the detailed information and explanations you shared. Seriously over the years of searching now and again for reviews I don't think I've ever found as helpful and informative of a video. Great job. I'm going to subscribe just because of this one video. Fantastic, informative video. I'm going to see what else you reviewed now : )
This is one of the first reliable reviews about the Ath m50x I have seen on youtube. My compliments. The way you reviewed the Brainwavz pads on these headphones is very good to. You surely know your stuff. Keep on the good work.
Before Sennheiser released HD 598 CS, this was their most popular headphone in that price range, and actually one of the most popular headphones in general along side m50x. Not everyone can get a hands on experience with both, and may not know which one is more suitable for them, despite one of them being closed back and the other being open back. The youtube search statistics would also show you that people are interested in knowing how 598 SE compares with m50x, despite it being open back. So people are interested in a comparison between these two headphones, despite knowing that they are different in that regards. Also, for a lot of people, whether a headphone is open back or closed may not make a difference because of where they use it, and still both of them have advantages over the other. I might compare m50x with HD 598 CS in the future.
Hi. From TIAF ...since u have a studio...does mixing requires a prepared studio...i mean Monitor speakers...or shud we stick to M50x type closed backs for monitoring/Basic mixing..(our studio space is unprepared and large hall type...)for casual Karaoke/Cover song mixing and VLog,Podcast editing
M50x isn't a great mixing headphone, m40x will be better for your purpose. You do require a somewhat treated space for accurate mixing with studio monitors, but initially, it will be fine to do it on headphones. Just start doing it, and you'll figure things out with time.
I have them both and i must say... You gave the most accurate information regarding both of the headphones..i personally like the HD598 more than M50X..i wish you all the best..
I bought the hd599 Se and I don’t know what it is but I don’t find them comfortable at all, either the clamping force or I think my ears hit the drivers
I joined the Jubilee Massdrop earlier this month, that's gonna be my main pair of cans at home. Since they're open-backed there is NO WAY I am gonna be able to use it in public. And that's why I picked up the m50x's today. I hope it was a good decision to do so..
There's a closed back version of HD 598 too, but for outside use M50x are better as they are more compact, foldable, isolating. The only issue I have with them is their sound signature and comfort, which may vary for you.
TechReflex May I ask your recommendations on replacement earpads for the headphones to help in the comfort department? Also- would they alter the sound that comes out of the cans?
Yes, most of the earpads will change the sound, as I've talked about in my review of Brainwavz HM5 earpads on this channel. I think Dekoni earpads made specifically for M50x will be the only option.
Great Video..Thank you for the same. I have question want your expert advice for sellecting right headphone. I am pianist looking headphone for Practice Piano & Listening indian Classical vocal & Sitar santoor flute sarangi solos. What budget headphone you suggest? I will Prefer Openback over the ear For wide soungstage. I will be using this at my in my room silent place so no worry of sound leakage & Outside sound problem. I wear Glasses. I will be playing piano for more than 3 hours and music listening for 1 hour daily so comfort is needed. Which you think best for me...Sennheiser hd 598 Sr or Se ? Or any other specific other model in same range.. Hope you will answer my question. Regards. Raju G.
HD598, the open back version will really be perfect for your use case, piano, sitar, and flute sound VERY good on it (I listen to Anoushka Shankar too). Comfort on it is also among the best, no problem with glasses and for hours of listening. I have higher end headphones, and I can still very strongly recommend HD598. My Privia PX 160 sounds great with its stock sounds, but if you can get a software like Synthogy Ivory Keys, that is really going to send you into another world with these headphones.
Hello TechReflex, Thank you for the review, I aim to purchase a digital piano to learn as well as good quality headphones to practice. I believe you are using the Privia series. I too aim to buy a new Casio. Could you recommend a budget-friendly model? I have seen a lot of reviews of the new CDP S100 and the PX S1000. Kindly help also with the above headphones, which to buy. I do not have good knowledge of both. Your expertise can help a lot.
I think you should go with the Privia series, as CDP series seems to be more focused on Portability. Make sure that you buy a digital piano that comes with the stand and a stool, as that will make a lot more difference that you might expect. Even the lower models of Privia series are really good, and if you need more features, you can just connect these pianos to PC or tablet, and get the functionality of more expensive models. The only negative of Privia series is the fake ivory texture on keys, but I don't know if they still have that as I got my piano around 4-5 years ago. As for headphones, the 598 SR are really good for that purpose, and even thoibj I have better headphones now, I still use 598 SR for piano as it really doesn't feel like you're wearing headphones when you use them on a piano.
This video actually showed up in my recommendations since I've been looking for an ath m50x review which isn't 5 years old lol. Thank you! Much respect from Pakistan
You seem a little to biased towards the HD598. Why do youtubers like MKBHD and Randomfrankp recommend them? For every purpose. I'm buying Headphones and selected this but after this video I wanted to ask from you. I currently own the Senheiser HD 280 pro. But they are discomforting for long sessions. I need something which is comforting for atleast 2 hrs and I game as well. For music I listen to Classic Rock, a bit of pop, and some trap music. Classical Hindi songs as well sometimes. I also need my headphones to last for about 4 yrs. What do you recommend, please give reasons as well. Thank you :)
These are really great for editing UA-cam videos due to the sound signature (which isn't my preference for music) that's why youtubers keep raving about them. You can try HD 598CS, though, electronic music does sound better on M50x. One headphone can't do it all (amongst these two).
Thank you. Subtitles (closed captions) are available for all my videos for those who may not be able to understand the accent, you can enable them by clicking the cog in the desktop player or in the 3 dot menu on phones.
Hey man, I recently bought an M50x but the volume is too low on my mobile phone but sounds good on my laptop.Any tips to squeeze the worth out of the Headphone, btw I'm a casual listener. Cheers!
Get a better phone or an Amp, or something like Fiio BTR1K, or the wireless adapter for m50x. If you try to increase volume via EQ you'll get distortion.
@@TechReflex Aren't both m40x and m50x really similar ? I have heard that m40x is more neutral than m50x though. M50x is considered to be more bass heavy than M40x, at least relatively.
Actually, I use Audio Technica's coiled cable with Sennheiser 598 and I've been using it like this for the past 4 years with no issues. They seem inter-compatible. At least on Sennheiser anyway. The Sennheiser cable doesn't work with ATH M50x though.
They are available, as HD 598 SR, which is basically the same model but with a cable with mic and different headband design, though if you were looking for the biege-brown color, you won't be able to find it anymore.
New Indian policies has made sellers like Cloudtail and Appario unavailable, so that may he the reason, many things have got expensive or unavailable. Really sucks.
For DAC I can really recommend SMSL Sanskrit 6th, has to be bought from aliexpress. For Amp I am using Massdrop O2, but it's a bit pricey at 11K after customs and Indian adapter has to be imported. SMSL makes some DAC/Amp combos that are also good. Fiio e10 is really not that great, but make sure you have good headphones first, with m50 / m40x etc. You won't feel that much of a difference.
Hi there, I would ask you about Focusrite Scarlett audio interface. Can you use it except for recording but like Dac/amp for Audio Technica mx50x headphones? ?Is it matching? ? Thank you! !!!
M50x isn't bad for gaming, but it's not good either because of narrow soundstage, HD 598 SR will be a very good gaming headphone, you can check other reviews who say the same, and if you want closed back you can check out HD 598 CS, which is a closed version of HD 598. They both will also be way more comfortable than m50x.
Wow Nice Comparison man, Liked your way of expression Keep Going Great, One More Question what exactly the difference between SE/SR only Special Edition & Rest are all same.
+Prasad Raghunath Thanks. The regular version is beige/brown without the short cable, the SE comes in black with the short cable (without mic), and the SR version is black, has a different headband and comes with a short cable for phones which also has a mic.
Hi, I'm looking for a gaming headset I want to know which is better in these in terms of sound quality. Sennheiser HD 598 SR Sennheiser GSP 300 HyperX Cloud Alpha HyperX Cloud Revolver S Looking for detail and comfort and pretty much overall sound quality
+Rock GamingTV Sound quality wise, Sennheiser HD 598 SR will be a lot better than other choices, and will be very comfortable too. Though, it's open back so sound will go out and come in, and doesn't have a microphone, so of you really need those, Hyper X Cloud is also a solid choice, or you can use a modmic with 598SR.
TechReflex Thanks for the quick response! Also can you recommend me a good mic for it for under 4k? I think modmic costs like 10k...which is more expensive than headphone itself
Mod mic is only 3.6K from Cloudtail India Amazon seller: www.amazon.in/Antlion-Audio-Cancelling-Attachable-Microphone/dp/B00R98JVVU/ Get it while the stock lasts. You could also upgrade to a dynamic mic with an audio interface in the future which costs around 15K, it'll be much better in the long for a UA-cam channel.
+The Dragon Emperor I Fiio E10K has both, a DAC and an AMP, and it is sufficient for M50x. DAC concerts the digital signal from your PC to analogue signal that headphones need, AMP amplifies it and 'drives' the headphone properly. I currently use an Objective2 amp with Fiio E10K as a DAC. (Pc usb goes to E10K, line out of E10K goes into input of O2, I can plug headphone in O2)
TechReflex Thanks. Especially for the quick reply. I'm planning to buy the Sennheiser 598 SR. Ur reviews was one of the best on UA-cam. I subbed. Hope u grow fast.
+NhaSh Is Coming SE = black color version with short cable, SR = black, with short cable which also has a microphone for use with phones, also has a newer headband. Drivers are the same between brown version, SE and SR.
TechReflex good so please i have already akg q701 im using it for fps gaming ...is hd 598 more better than q701 im asking for detailes in games like foot steps to listen to it perfectly which one u think better i have sound blaster z
+NhaSh Is Coming q701 is also a very good open back headphone, you may not benefit from using 598. You should upgrade to a higher end headphone, instead of buying a similar headphone. If you don't have a good DAC/Amp, you should buy something like an O2 + ODAC/SDAC/OL DAC.
+NhaSh Is Coming Well then you already have a good setup and spending more won't improve anything significantly. Save that money and buy something higher end and different like planar magnetic headphones, or other higher end open back headphones. (Hifiman HE-500, HE-4XX, Sennheiser HD 700 etc.)

Which earcups do you recommend for m50x? Apart from being comfy they should not mess with sound quality. Or is there not alternative to stock ones?
Only alternative to stock is Dekoni earpads made for M50x, though I've only seen them selling on Massdrop.
Could you please recommend a good enough AMP/DAC for these headphones, i'm planning to buy one

Excellent analysis, and covered so many important points that most other people did not - actual sound problem in office, classical music. Very clear and precise words, really excellent quality.
Thanks!
Yes iam new to headphones. Iam wanting some with really good bass but great sound quality. I listen to hip hop, country, pop, and rock. Any suggestions??
M40x, unless by 'good bass' you mean 'exaggerated bass' or 'boosted bass'.
Which one best for watching movies?
HD598 by a long shot, M50x are quite bad for movies, though if you EQ M50x, they are fine.

Thanks a lot Sir 😇 will go with 770 then
Wow : ) Thank you so much TechReflex for your quick and helpful reply! I appreciate that a lot.
The 598 Cs has some sort of built in mic I think (??) Will that conflict on my PC at all with using my condenser mic while using these headphones?
No. The cable with mic is designed to work with phones, the mic won't connect to a pc without a splitter adapter.
Ahh. Okay, perfect. Thanks so much again, and I hope you keep making amazing videos like this. So amazingly helpful. I learned a lot from you.
Thank you for prompt reply...
Can I've link to buy Audio Technica ear pads ?

Hello +TechReflex, I was wondering which of these two are better for me, I ordered the ATH-M50X but maybe I rushed a bit too much before analyzing which was my best option, I'm looking for some headphones mainly for gaming, so will the HD 598's will be better for me for the open back and soundstage for games? I play mostly RPG and Shooters like PUBG. I find the M50X's comfortable so far after two days of usage, but I'm thinking to refund them and get the HD 598's either SE or SR
Yes, HD 598 will be much better for any kind of gaming, plus, they are much, much more comfortable than m50x.
Sound wise how will they be better for gaming?
Wider Soundstage. Also, they sound better than m50x in general.
Hello, I ended up buying the Sennheiser HD58X Jubilee, by massdrop and I think they're excellent with better drivers than the 660s for a 150 dollar headphone it's really good
Really nice comparison great video
Thanks!
what are the differences between hd 599 and 598? which one is better?
Really good and honest comparison, keep up the good work.!!
Thanks!
TechReflex thank you :)
Hey do the HD598's work with a mobile phone?....I mean to say without an amp. And how much difference does a cheap amp like fiio A1 give?
Yes anything under hd 600 work with potable devices.
With an impedance of 50 ohms, do you think OnePlus 5 can drive them enough?
Yeah 50 ohm is nothing for oneplus 5. Also, it is more sensitive, so is easier to drive.
@@TechReflex Thanks a lot for helping me make my buying decision. Going for the hd598's
Sennheiser 598: How good these are when we use with iPhones and/or iPADs? I have the IPP 10.5 and need to know if the volume can be compared to the EARPODS (or Airpods). Thanks
These are low impedance and high efficiency, iPads/phones will drive them really well and you'll get a high volume.
Very intelligent and thorough review.
Thanks!
Hey i bought the HD 598 sr after watching this video... My only problem is when I'm using this with my redmi note 5 pro..i have to keep the volume at least at 60% otherwise I sound is very tiny... Should I buy a headphone amp or dac? What do you suggest?
You can try something like Fiio A1, it should help, or you can also go for Fiio Q2 MkII, but that is expensive.

Hello!!, I have a question: I can use the ATH-M50x with glasses?? or is uncomfortable using it with glasses??
+Mr. P It is uncomfortable with glasses.
TechReflex Thank you.
Could you recommend me some similar headphones?? I always wear glasses

Thanks!

This has been the only video that has actually helped me decide which headphones I should buy lol
So wich one? I have m50x now i want to try hd598.

Which one would you recommend for casual listening?
+swadhin nayak HD598
TechReflex Do you think hd598 needs a separate amp or a dac since i am planning to use it with my Xiaomi Mi A1 mobile and my laptop?
Really good and extensive reviews for these best known audiophile headphones. Keep going and thumbs up!!
Thanks

This is well presented and informative
amazing interview!
i need to ask one more thing ;
i want to hd598 so hard but what your recommendation?
fiio amp or? just need asus xonar sound card?
which one you choose?
If you already have Xonar then Fiio won't be a big upgrade, and if you don't plan on getting something like HD600 or planar magnetics, Fiio has enough power and quality for HD598.
ah thank you for answer!
Really good review. You will get recognition for your works.

Thank you! :)
good review . but its not fair to compare open back to close back . Unless your comparing open back headphones to closed back headphones .
It is very weird that a UA-camr with this level of content has only 12K subscriptions.
When I made this I had 400 subs :)

HD 559 or HD 599??
does M50x turns high impedance mode with LG G6(QUAD DAC) or works as normal audio device since it has only 38 ohms?
+Kumar Ramalingam It won't turn high impedance mode, as that probably requires headphones with higher than 50 ohms of impedance.

Thank you very much for your fast reply..
@@TechReflex How about Sennheiser HD 4.50 SE BT NC? Have you used them? Any thoughts?
M50x and M50 needs Fiio E10or E10k. 598 is probably "coloured"
Fiio E10K is the updated model so it's better, so go for that.

You're welcome, brother!
Also I don't want everyone to hear what music I'm hearing plus I would like to use the headphones even while TV is playing.
These are really great for editing UA-cam videos due to the sound signature (which isn't my preference for music) that's why youtubers keep raving about them. You can try HD 598CS, though, electronic music does sound better on M50x. One headphone can't do it all (amongst these two).

Cant find it anywhere. The seller on amazon is selling an imported product meaning not available in India.
New Indian policies has made sellers like Cloudtail and Appario unavailable, so that may he the reason, many things have got expensive or unavailable. Really sucks.

Does a third party cable (with a mic) work even though the headphones have a special locking system?
There are cables made specifically made for m50x, they come with mics too, they'll work. But you cant just use any 2.5mm cable, it won;t work
Hey suggest a good upgrade from FiiO E10. A good value for money worthy upgrade.

? Thank you! !!!
Hay man I'm buying the m50x for gaming and I will add mic to it so should I buy these headset for ps4 gaming and music pleases reply me
M50x isn't bad for gaming, but it's not good either because of narrow soundstage, HD 598 SR will be a very good gaming headphone, you can check other reviews who say the same, and if you want closed back you can check out HD 598 CS, which is a closed version of HD 598. They both will also be way more comfortable than m50x.
Thanks for such a detailed review... U deserve more subscribers... Keep it up
+øηкαя мαнαмυηí thanks!
Great job bro. Keep it coming.
👍🤘
Thanks!
Have u done a video on Streamer(Rasberry Pi) if not pls one on that ...why it's less practised one even in forums...?compared to HPs,iems even DAPS?
Very Detailed and very informative comparison, based on this in brought HD598 CS (closed back) model
Thanks. HD598 CS is a middle ground between the two headphones, and is a great alternative of M50x.
TechReflex Thank You
Hi, I'm looking for a gaming headset I want to know which is better in these in terms of sound quality.
Sennheiser HD 598 SR
Sennheiser GSP 300
HyperX Cloud Alpha
HyperX Cloud Revolver S
Looking for detail and comfort and pretty much overall sound quality
+Rock GamingTV Sound quality wise, Sennheiser HD 598 SR will be a lot better than other choices, and will be very comfortable too. Though, it's open back so sound will go out and come in, and doesn't have a microphone, so of you really need those, Hyper X Cloud is also a solid choice, or you can use a modmic with 598SR.
TechReflex Thanks for the quick response! Also can you recommend me a good mic for it for under 4k? I think modmic costs like 10k...which is more expensive than headphone itself
Mod mic is only 3.6K from Cloudtail India Amazon seller: www.amazon.in/Antlion-Audio-Cancelling-Attachable-Microphone/dp/B00R98JVVU/
Get it while the stock lasts.
You could also upgrade to a dynamic mic with an audio interface in the future which costs around 15K, it'll be much better in the long for a UA-cam channel.
Awesome Thank you for the help :D I will soon be getting 598s and Mod Mic combo.
What amp do you use. I'm kind of new to this field
+The Dragon Emperor I Thanks :)
Thank you very much for your detailed review buddy it has really helped me a lot
Welcome. :)
hello please the sr and se and the brown its all same ???
+NhaSh Is Coming SE = black color version with short cable, SR = black, with short cable which also has a microphone for use with phones, also has a newer headband. Drivers are the same between brown version, SE and SR.
TechReflex good so please i have already akg q701 im using it for fps gaming ...is hd 598 more better than q701
im asking for detailes in games like foot steps to listen to it perfectly
which one u think better
i have sound blaster z
+NhaSh Is Coming q701 is also a very good open back headphone, you may not benefit from using 598. You should upgrade to a higher end headphone, instead of buying a similar headphone. If you don't have a good DAC/Amp, you should buy something like an O2 + ODAC/SDAC/OL DAC.
TechReflex im already have sound blaster z in my pc .. what i need to have more detailes for my q701 ?
+NhaSh Is Coming Well then you already have a good setup and spending more won't improve anything significantly. Save that money and buy something higher end and different like planar magnetic headphones, or other higher end open back headphones. (Hifiman HE-500, HE-4XX, Sennheiser HD 700 etc.)
