These tips are dead on.
One odd thing I encountered was the cruise line would not allow my 28L bag to be dropped off with porters (and go through security scanning) as it was too small! I was planning on using a smaller tote for day of stuff, but I had to use the entire bag. Not a huge imposition, but wow, those stairs are tough with a backpack meant for two weeks. This was X, not RC, and at Ravenna.
Oh, make sure your port is actually in the city the trip is supposedly from. Like Venice! Luckily, I’d booked a couple days before, so one became train and bus day to get to the port town (Rome and Sevilla have this issue, too)
