This was great, I just discovered Justine and think her work is an excellent, more traditional complementation to Alec's ethereal approach to sketch the outsider (the REAL) Americans. Photographers like them remind you that America is equally a beautiful place as it can madden you, just like anywhere in this modern western society.
The only comment I have is that Ansel Adams should've been in the book as Alec's work, to me, reminds me alot of the surreal quality that Ansel's work has as well that Ansel was a pioneer in portraying the American landscape in such a way that it becomes dreamlike. They both show, in a way, made up landscapes; Ansel by his masterful technique; Alec by his way of making the portrait a landscape. Their manner of transportation doesn't matter, Alec equally wanders from the road as Ansel made photographs next (or even on) them. Let's not forget Ansel's most celebrated photograph was made on the side of the road.
Great inspiration, thank you for the upload! :)
