Best dressed mechanic on the west coast.
By far the most complete demonstration of auto repair I've ever watched. Thank you so much for the how-to.i have an 06 highlander with 300,000 .miles on it and it's the best car I've ever owned. Easily . you've instilled me with the confidence to take it on myself. Appreciate your knowledge and professionalism .
Good job. She's lucky to have you for her mechanic.
"Maybe Peter, you don't have it bro" that was awesome, good video peter, well done!
Thanks for the video. I just put a new 42410-0E050 wheel bearing from Bosch Toyota South (US) on the back of our 2012 Highlander Base AWD and kept un-pausing this video as I went to watch the different steps. I had to cold grind a flat side bevel on a chisel to get that axle nut un-bent. If anybody is ordering parts for this repair, highly recommend having a new spindle nut on hand and a dedicated spindle nut socket. My 12-pt 30mm had triangle teeth, the dedicated spindle nut socket has more rounded teeth.
Peter is one of a handful of mechanics who put anti-seize compound on customer's cars BEFORE he had a UA-cam channel where the know it all public has the opportunity to tell him how to do his job.
I really like how you slowly explain thing. It helps to focus on the work. And your step approaching the job is right on. Thank you for taking the time to do the video. Please continue on more videos only when you have time and motivation.
Great video! Love the Highlander! Have 2 myself. Snap On is a waste IMHO. Never understood buying them. I don’t care how nice it is. Vanity tools. Tekton does just fine for me. Lifetime guarantee like almost everyone has these days. For this socket - Tekton ~$15. Snap On ~$65. Over 4 times as much. Yeh….
Great video and helped me a ton. Mine wasn't nearly this easy though. After hitting the old wheel bearing with a hammer for a while trying to get it off, I went and got a puller with a slide hammer. Two pulls and it came right off. If anyone else has the same problem get yourself one of these.
Petr, On behalf of the person who will change this bearing again at 340,000 miles - thanks for using anti-seize!! 😄
That’s funny I’m changing one with 340k miles now

That monster torque spec would be the only thing that would prevent me from doing the job myself. I've got the build of Mick Jagger. Great video, thank you as always.
Thank you Peter
I have 2009 Highland and I love it to death
So far my bearing all around are still sound but I know that soon enough they will need to be changed out. Very nice to see that it can be a DIY project minus the beautiful car lift that you have.
Thank you for the step by step video Peter. Please post more videos like this :)
@16:15 "don't breathe it" _he says without wearing a mask_ 🤣
Spoken like a true shop teacher!
Perfect timing Petr. Replacing rear wheel hub on 05 Optima with similar design. Pass thru bolt holes.
You are a lifesaver Sir, I saved so much time and effort with your way. Thank you 👍 So Much 🙂
What ever happened to the good old days of my teenage years where you would re-pack your wheel bearings every 12,000 miles? And a new bearing was $12.00.
If you buy a toyota land cruiser 100 series those still use spindles and re packable wheel bearings. They were made all the way up to 2007 but are pretty pricey nowadays since there's a big land cruiser tax on all of them lol
The good old days? Servicing bearings every 12k doesn't sound good at all. These new ones last longer and are easier to change.
Nobody wants to do that crap anymore. They went the same place as points
@@BrockOBauma using a slide hammer and sledging a press in vs popping off a cap and pushing some grease into the area and putting the cap back on? Not harder than having to press in the modern day bearing.
@@LAactor there was no press, slide hammer, or sledge used in this video. What are you talking about?
This is a great video. Thank you for taking the time and sharing!
Thank U Soooooo Much For Walking Us Through This From A-Z 😎
Very good. Can't believe the Haynes manual didn't even cover this removal & replacement of this part.
We own an 06 Highlander Limited 3.3lt, has 314k, runs great. I changed a front wheel bearing, its not the same as the back bearings its a press on bearing. So, you can buy the knuckle or just the bearing. I bought the bearing removal/install tool kit and did it myself. You can take it to a shop. I like to do my own maint. You will need long extensions for pressing the bearing out/in. They tell you not to use drills on the bearing tool drive screw because it strips the screw.
Excellent Video Peter! Sounds like the Santa Ana winds are pummeling your shop. ;-)
Very interesting good video stay safe and healthy and warm 👍
Peter gets his super human strength from all the sourkraut he eats!!!!
Thank you so much for the video ! It was so helpful!
Love your channel. Thanks for the information.
...great DIY video Peter......thanks for posting.... :)
So easy for the DIY person. My Honda CRV has the same design and I have changed one.
Just purchased a 13 pc 1/2” 12 points impact sockets set from Harbour Freight for $19.99 which include 30mm socket.
Love your videos, thanks so much, .
great job explaing your work thank you.
Hello Peter, This Is LC From Chicago 😎
I sure hope the Mrs. got a new toothbrush out of that job and you didn't just put her old one in the degreaser! 😆
I love these videos!
Thank you for sharing, like watching your videos, very helpful👍
Excelent detailed video. 5 stars
thats why people buy toyotas their engineeers plan for the future and mechanics like peter are worth their weight in gold
Bravo from Canada 🇨🇦 👏
This is a great how to. I am trying to do this right now. I'm stuck because I don't have a good hammer to pound the dent out of that axle lock nut. haha
Great video, thanks
Thanks Peter! Could you comment on the brand of the replacement part that was replaced. In the market at the moment for this part for a 2001 highlander. Thanks
VERY GOOD JOB. WHICH BRAND IS GOOD FOR LEXUS ES 350 2015 REAR HUD BEARING.
Thank you! It's very helpfull!
That garage door shaking in the wind, there is a remedy for that. There's a company that sells bushings that reduce or eliminate the shaking from the wind. Sorry, can't remember the companies name. I think you can get the bushing on Amazon.
Or even jam some cardboard into the rails making sure to be careful to not damage the track. It's not his shop and he might be looking for a better place anyway
Another very well made, very informative production..thank you
What company do you get your Toyota Hub + Bearing assemblies from??
Super-human Peter--the man!
Thanks Peter
Great job !!!!!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
very nice my friend .
Wow, awesome! Easier that those pressed in bearings!
The 8mm bolts to remove rotors and rear drums undoubtedly saves a few bearings from the pounding of a sledge normally used to break them loose.
Are you referring to the metric threaded bolts used to pop the rotor off and are they 1.25 or 1.5 diameter? THx!
Thank you 👍👍👍
Lovely and well detailed explained... Thanks Super Man. LOL
Is this the same for the front hub assembly. Can you just buy the assembly and replace similar to this
It seems you can't get a whole assembly for the front though? Only a kit?? I need this done to my front passenger side.
Wish you were in Arkansas. I need a good mechanic here.
Great video, can you please tell us where you got the new bearing assembly? Was it OEM or ??
From what month do you discuss about the separating bolts? I’m trying to locate the video. Thanks.
Pete, do you recommend tightening the axle nut while it's in the air but waiting until the wheel is back on the ground when you torque it? They way they don't fight it in the air..
We know you only did it this way to show us and the camera easier so you don't have to do another camera angle setup.
You're as much a teacher as a mechanic.
Can bad wheel bearing’s make ur break, abs come on? Started to have humming nose on rear .. 3 weeks later lights came on. An I have no leaks of break fluid.
Hello amigo whatas the manufacturer of those hab cups. Make i nedd a couple of them

Hello and thank you for another great video what’s the two bot size in MM in min. 3:40?
6mm/1.50
You are a good guy. I am swapping out the hubs on a Sienna in Canada. You can guess how well it is going. Wish it was as easy as yours. Mine is rusted to the backing plate.
How did you get it off!
I'm in Ontario!
He lubed it all up and got it off. @@Amorbellum
Please tell the people what torque it is ? Thank you….
After i replace the wheel bearing. The abs light on. What is worng,?
My 2012 Highlander just had a rear wheel bearing issue. Ugh. 😢150k. Wear and tear items do happen.
Show us a simple front and rear brake job in ur Patagonia outfits.
Can I use the same axle nut or do I need to get a new one?
I got a new one, the old axle nut got pretty mangled getting the dent out of the key slot on the axle.
Do they have assembled hubs for 1st gen Tacomas?
Check on rockauto for availability
Thanks for filming this, Peter. Now go give your wife her toothbrush back!!! 😆😅😁
❤❤❤
Side effect, teeth covered in nickel paste but anti-sneeze seems to be working well
WOW very interesting super kool ,1st class great info.,,, AAAAAAAAAAA++++++++++++ again great video I liked it a lot ,keep up the great work.
Thread locker applicators don't contain much anymore. I went to buy a new tube and it was even smaller!
Don't breathe the brake dust? Did you learn that from the school of holding your breathe from Garcetti?
Yeah that California rust is tough
Well, how much did you pay for that 12 point Snap on socket?
He said $40
@@HouseCallAutoRepair probably $40 years ago, snap on last forever but they are insanely expensive
👍🏻
Looks like the front bearings are a totally different story, though, huh?
Hey Pete. I'd like to buy all the 'old' Toyota wheel bearing assemblies from you?
I've got one I'll sell you.
Where are you located? Exact location I need service on my vehicle
Arcata, Ca
The Inside Pad Looked A Little Thin Peter...
After determining ' bad bearing' like most of this dudes 'diy' videos on any wheels, goes on to commesrate with mechanics in rust belt! LMAO
Oh idk. Must be wheel bearings
There is no way that you will hear a wheel hub noice with the brake pads installed
Anti-seize is it's own religion. There's no such thing as too much
I would never let this guy touch my car even if i was stranded in the middle of nowhere
Learn basic brakes before charging ppl for wheel bearings on Toyotas!! Especially when the wheels are original. U r either stealing money or u have no idea what u r doing. Did u replace brakes afterwards?
No reply from this joker!!!
Same noice at the end lol
Wheel bearings going ' bad' In California? Really? Joke this wannbe toya tech taking a piss.
Been watching this channel for awhile. That being said, this joke of a purposed Toyota repair master is full of it. Most of this is overcharging hard working ppl. The vast majority needs brakes!! Not a new wheel bearing!! Peter ur a grifter
How long does it take to change them out
