I live in a country where ppl breaking in is super rare but I do remember when I was 8 and at my bestie's house after school (her parents weren't home) and some man would ring on the doorbell. we didn't open bc we were taught to never open for strangers. he kept ringing and trying to get in and even shouted "ik you're in there open up", we were both crying and hiding :( it never happened again luckily, but they didn't caught him or anything

Not really. Some people live in areas that are relatively safe so they don't think anything will happen.

My neighbor has a doorbell cam, and caught the dude testing my door, and my other neighbors door, late af at night.
As soon as she told me, i went and got my alarms. Haven't had any issues since.

In my country we leave the doors unlocked most of the time (unless its night time and we go out etc) since break ins don't happen often (esp not ones involving guns)

Short story.
Years ago when I first moved to the city I'm in now, I lived in the upstairs of a duplex apartment in the downtown area. It's a smaller city.
One night I was chilling with my friend drinking and smoking.
I heard someone quietly walking up the stairs.
This drunk ass man came INTO my apartment. I didn't even know my door wasn't locked.
So I told my friend someone was coming in. This negroe just nicely walked the man all the way back downstairs and outside.
Now if my friend had been sober he probably would've kicked his ass.
Did I tell you I had 3 young kids at the time?
I made SURE my door was locked after that.

I was growing up in a small village in Germany and most houses don’t have doorbells to begin with. You just knock on somebody door and if they are not answering, you’re just go inside the house and start shouting and looking for them and if you can’t find them, you just make yourself a coffee and wait for them 😂
