This antique rusty tool restoration video is of an adjustable spanner generally described as a French wrench. Whilst this isn't a very rare wrench it certainly does have all the characteristics of a what might be described as a classic vintage tool. The mechanism is very easy to operate with only three working parts. This adjustable spanner is simplicity itself, all that's required to move the jaws to the correct dimension of the nut is a turn of the handle.
We hope this practical demonstration of how to repair and restore a vintage tool will help to teach you all the processes involved in a restoration project, help to learn new skills and give you the confidence to practice them yourself.
Many thanks go out to Ben from the Tool Addict UA-cam channel who not only kindly supplied the rusty wrench for this video but also donated a sticker for the blast cabinet. Another big thank you goes out to our friend across the pond, Mr Robert J Foust for also sending a sticker for the cabinet, please support both their great channels,

As well as being a tool restoration video this is also a classic amsr video with only workshop noises and no narration.

I use the big one as one of my main survival tools and the smaller always in my car...I have a pipe fitted the size of the handle to slode over for torqe ...it is a beast...now I know why..It was born that way...cheers
Well done

¿Does it also work for hammer blows?
Apologies for being dim, but why did you heat the stems and dip in oil ? Was it some sort of annealing because you heated it before ?
Now for glass display case

Nice pice

I like it :)!!!
Hi Restoration shed, thanks for your kind comment, I'm glad you liked the video👍😊
Is it definitely a wrench?
Reminds me of something a model maker or clock smith might use to clamp something for working on.
Hi Michael, thanks for your great comment, it's certainly seen as a wrench but I totally see where your coming from👍😊
@@restoreandmake You did a beautiful job of restoring it btw. Looks too good to use now. 👍
👍👍👍
Going to try that straightening trick on two of my King Dick girders as both have a little bit of a turn on the upper jaw, might even have a crack at polishing up one of 'em to see what it looks like :)
Hi Ian, thanks for your great comment, I hope your restoration goes well, it would be good if you film it and let us all see the results👍😊great channel by the way👍keep up the good work😊
I have an identical wrench to the one you have there, but the one I have is about 5 inches overall length. While trying to identify a vintage monkey-style wrench I have, I came across a picture of my little wrench labelled a "bicycle wrench" I guess this one is small enough to do spokes and a lot of the nuts/bolts on a bike. Just some useless information. Oh, and the old monkey wrench turned out to be a double-jawed wrench patented in Canada in 1827!
Hi weldorman, thank you so much for your super comment, it's great to hear real life stories of these lovely and interesting tools👍😊
First Comment! Quite interesting

Thank you for your answer, I will definitely contact you. For now, we have to wait this strange time out. How do you do that you have so much display in such a short time? Best wishes.
04:04 Improper files storage ... files must NOT touch each other.
Hi Superdrinker B, thanks for your comment, the files are arranged like that for the visual look whilst filming and are normally stored separately👍😊
