It is so rad! When we went the first time we stayed a couple days in the city - Erin was tired so we dropped her at Grand Central and she met us back at the campsite.
What a bikecation! Fall has to be the best time of the year to take a bike trip of this magnitude. (Pending temp and moisture) Luckily there pretty much has been a drought and unseasonal temperatures that made your trip unforgettable. Thanks for sharing! May your wheels be fast and steady.
A useful route out of the city is the OCA out of the city to Tarrytown, over the Cuomo bridge on the bike path, then up thru Nyack to Haverstraw, then local roads across Harriman SP to Rt 17, up to Harriman to the Orange Heritage Trail to Middletown. Then wherever you want into the Catskills.
Awesome to see an outsiders perspective on the OCA. I just got into gravel biking a few months ago and live right by the OCA. Didn’t realize I was sitting on a gold mine! I love riding it every weekend. Great video!
That's awesome. I love riding the OCA. Live about 10 minutes by bike from the nearest entrance in Ossining by the fire house. So cool to see it on youtube!!!
Friggin awesome ride Tim!! Thanks for the route shout-out (hey that rhymes :) and I'm glad it was helpful (now that the salmon has been corrected lol :). The OH-SEE-AYE is a magical dirt ribbon filled with history-mystery and mucho grit.....Peace Bro ✌🏻 (Pedal2Process)
Absolutely great video, Tim. As someone who lives in the MW and traveled to the NYC and surrounding areas on Long Island, Poughkeepsie, Jersey for business over the years, what a different view of it. Appreciate this video. Well done!
Oh Brother!! Right before you said "I watched Terry B's video of the OCA during the pandemic" I was remembering that video as I saw all those "familiar" houses and spots go by. That's pretty much where it all started with me too except I live in Texas so, for now, it's a bucket list ride. But it will happen. Hell, by now I should have the route memorized!! Thanks T for your insight and taking us along.
It is so cool as I said probably a million times in this video. Definitely worth making it up there for at some point! It was really awesome doing it heading south and basically coming out of the woods and into NYC. Cheers!
Wow Tim , what a day , huh ? And 'I can see by what you carry , that you come from Tarrytown " Very cool , love that kind of ride , thanks for sharing ! Bonus pix at the end !! Beautiful !
Enjoyed this. Thanks. A lot of stop and go street crossings on that trail, but otherwise a fun trip. If I may suggest, Check out a Sienna Minivan rental next time. We can fit two bikes standing up easily. Bring some zip ties and they’re really sturdy too.
Thanks for the tip. Check out Modl Infinity tools - no need for single use plastic like zip ties. They are what I'm using to hold my extra jacket on the front rack and how we secured the bikes to the truck bed.
I like your comment about how NYC isn't necessarily flat. Too many people think of NYC = Manhattan, specifically maybe midtown, and they never see cool places like Highbridge or Fort Tryon or the cooler parts of the other boroughs. On a bike you can definitely see all of that. Also, the dam looks even better when we're not in the middle of a drought. :/
I still have a number of NYC rides in mind when I come back with more time. So many places I still haven't seen. The dam was definitely different the last time we were there as it was a rainy trip.
I always bring a ton of bikepacking meals but only end up eating a couple of them because I always want REAL (at least realish) food, and end up buying food along the way. I think it's part of the experience though, eating the local food.
Same. I consider the camp meals for emergencies or getting in late. We also tour on holidays a lot so we bring them in case there is nothing open. When I'm on vacation I want to eat good food - so I have no shame going to a good brewery or restaurant!
Whoa I camped at that exact site a couple months ago at croton point! Great video :) *edit: the raccoons were also sniffing around my handlebar bag, scared the shit out of my girlfriend lol
@TimFitzwater my apologies. I was a little tipsy. You can and should do whatever you want to. I was imposing my opinion. I race xc on a dated single speed full rigid bike with bb7s so I don't see a need for it but that's my opinion and my style.
After all these videos, still nailing the music. Well done!
Thanks so much!
I liked the concept of starting with a grittier song while we were still in the city and then having it get more chill.
What a hidden gem of a set of trails! That’s so cool! Sweet that they have train connections for the return trip.
It is so rad!

Fall can definitely be a gamble - it completely paid off this year though!!
Cheers!
il y a plein de maisons dans les villes !!!!!!!!!!! joli film once more ! merci
I enjoyed this particular video very much. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you dug it - as you could probably tell I love this ride!
Cool. City to Woods. Grey to Green. Best of both worlds. Noice, as always.
Thanks!
It is such a rad transition.

Beautiful autumn tree colours. Good chill ride, very ambience.❤

It is amazing! We also rode other cool trails around there last time - nearer to Peekskill I believe.
Great video. I left upstate NY that day back for Alaska and I was bummed to miss out on that weather. What a great route. I want to do it!
That's awesome. I love riding the OCA. Live about 10 minutes by bike from the nearest entrance in Ossining by the fire house. So cool to see it on youtube!!!
Nice! There was a guy at High Bridge Park we were talking to and I tried to duplicate his pronunciation of Ossining - so I hope I did ok.
Beautiful! I’m living vicariously through your vids!
Awesome video series. Who would guess New York city would have bike trails like that. Thanks for sharing Tim
Thanks! Yeah - that is totally why it became something I wanted to do so badly.
Sweet. Loved the series.
Thanks! It was fun to ride and make!
oca is such a treat, glad you enjoyed it. funny to see the dam during a drought, it's usually a huge heavy flow.
Yeah - it looked very different this time.

Its so great! I truly appreciate the help. I was so glad to see the bits I missed last time.

Thanks!
Delightful series of videos. Very enjoyable to watch and see a part of America that’s not often seen.
One of my fave rides in NY. Empire Trail up, OCA trail down.
Its so great. We took the OCA down and the Empire back up a few years ago. Both are great!
Thanks Tim! You rock!
Sweet

It is such a great spot!
Are you referring to the cliffs across the river they are The Palisades in NJ
So amazing! I assume you are talking about the same thing. Definitely NJ
Tim, what are the large stone pillars on the side of the trail?. You pass by many of them on the OCA.
Vents to keep the water fresh.
Did you start in Ridgewood?
Check the Strava link below. Started on the border of Bushwick
You absolutely do not need a dropper post i promise
Absolutely do. I mountain bike on this and it will be so awesome
