Adult with Autism | Autism Advent | Day 15

- 25 videos over 25 days of December. 25 different videos covering my considerations, difficulties, changes and practicalities for December.
December is the trickiest month in the year as so many things change around me, as well as societal wants, family get togethers, changes to spending etc., and it isn't easy. But whereas I am an adult who never shuts up, it is easy for me to say those things that are a personal concern, and other concerns people have reached out and shared.
So I wanted to share them with you too, so the festive time can be tolerated by all, and not to the detriment of others.

Growing up I just wanted gift cards and that was always impersonal or something. I just normally don't know what I want and that gave me flexibility to choose something when it catches my eye.
That's a good idea. It's still just as useful as being given money, but just a controlled place of spending. Plus, you buy at your leisure instead of it having to be at Xmas.
Wish I'd have thought of that, I'd have put it in a video! 😂
Paul, your hat style made me laugh! The pompom right in the middle like a headlight on a miners helmet! So funny-and over your eyes. ROFL Help me get up off the floor..Im old!
Haha, I'd end up on the floor too, then we'd both need help! I was clearly looking to keep myself entertained 😂
As you may or may not remember, I’m very - to say the least - fond of you saying the exact same words in the introduction to all your videos; the predictability makes me very comfortable, and I say them and hear them in my head with you (sometimes without you, randomly popping up during the day😆 yes, perfectly normal!) so now when you changed it up a bit…I was at first like, hey wait a minute, this is not right…but then at ease again since you now say THESE exact words - the Christmas video intro. Lol.
Anyway. Surprises…I turned 50 in April last year. Yeah. Imagine the horror of the anticipation, the thought of what others might wanna do…
But I have really good friends (also no one really saw each other much because of the whole Covid thing) and one of them was teasing me saying, ooohh Chris I know what you want more than anything in the world for your birthday - A SURPRISE PARTY!!!
😱😱😱
And she was having fun with that several times, months in advance. Hey, I’m glad I can amuse my friends😂
But, on a more serious note, I’m glad you’re talking about these things from the perspective of how an autistic child might experience them.
And may I also add, the hat looks particularly silly today!💪🏼😂
Oooo, a surprise party would be a surprise if someone pulled one for me, as I'd just turn around and walk away from it. That would be my idea of hell!
The Xmas intro happened by default, just like my main one did. It always helps for me to not pay too much attention to myself and structure happens organically 😂
@@AdultwithAutism it IS hell, pure hell! Haha yep, that’d for sure would be a surprise for them😆 And as I said, phew, my friends know me by now and wouldn’t dare do such a thing. They’ve learned…😬
Take care and see you here!
My son has Asperger’s and he had a fixation of hot wheel cars, so at Christmas he used to ask to see the gift first, make sure it was the right set and then say ok, you can wrap it if you want. He had a collection of over 100 , and knew them all, so the thought of getting doubles was a problem.
I was the same when I was younger when I used to collect Wrestling figures 👍🏻
My friend's husband once said he wasn't going to unwrap his gift, because as long as he didn't unwrap it, it might be what he really wanted. We used to compromise with our kids. Santa brought an unwrapped gift (toys) and mom and dad gave a wrapped gift.
Haha, a good way to reduce the amount you wrap up. I like it!
I can hardly wait to see where you wear your hat next 😊
Haha, unfortunately there is no more super silly hat positions...maybe
Have you considered wearing the Santa hat while walking outside? I think this would cheer people up it just goes so well with the beard and everything 😀
Haha, the concern is...children may also approach!! And as I have a rule that they are not allowed to acknowledge me until they're old enough to buy me an alcoholic drink, it could prove very tricky 😂
@@AdultwithAutism Santa strolling around asking kids to buy him a drink...can't see how this could go wrong 🤪
Haha!
I like the ritual of present opening but I do understand what you mean from other members of my family.
So long as I'm not watched opening them. Plus, my mums wrapping...pretty sure it's easier to break into a safe. So much tape!
@@AdultwithAutism I understand that because it requires masking, which I am always aware of.
Yup, very difficult to fake the level of happiness people want me to have per gift based off their expectation. It's why I prefer to open gifts out of sight.
