    Great video! New subscriber. Do they generally float or sink after being shot?

    These guys aren't lying about beaver meat having amazing flavor. It's hard to explain: the meat tastes like it was smoked with maple wood chips, and the fat has a smooth velvety flavor. I have no doubt this comes from the castoreum glands that also I've heard are used to make artificial vanilla flavoring.

      It’s good stuff for sure!! I just made a new video of a beaver catch, clean and cook on my channel 2 days ago! Used thermal on that one. Thanks for watching!

    Never had any interaction with a beaver so I'm not very familiar with them, but is 308 overkill or are they like a hog with really thick fur? Just thinking a smaller cheaper round would be more effective, like 5.56 or maybe even 17hmr

    • @HoosierHunter
      @HoosierHunter  5 років тому

      Yeah, it definitely gets the job done aggressively. My buddy was with me and he is most comfortable with his 308 so that’s what he used that night. I have killed them with many different calibers and there was plenty of meat left after using the 308. It didn’t tear it up as bad as you would think.

    Isn’t 308 kinda overkill? You can beaver hunt with 22

    • @HoosierHunter
      @HoosierHunter  6 років тому +3

      Yeah, but we wanted a clean kill to help the land owners and be sure it didn’t get away. It was my friend using his 308 and that’s what he’s most confident with.

    You know you could have used the .22LR for the beaver, right? .308 is a bit to much more such a small animal. Heck, get yourself a .25 PCP air rifle and be really quiet with a compensator on it. Also beaver tail is awesome.

    • @HoosierHunter
      @HoosierHunter  5 років тому +1

      For sure 👍. I couldn’t tell you how many I have killed with a 22LR. That was the only rifle my buddy brought that night and he wanted to use it. I love using the 22LR with my suppressor on it. Thanks for watching.

    Wow dude, came here right after the AR build and watched the whole thing. You blew that things head clean in half, lol! Just wanted to say that i thought the production quality of this video was top notch, you really filled it in with great b-roll footage to keep my attention. Keep up the hard work brother!

      Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching. The first 2 that were shot were Muskrats so we did not mess with recovering them. You can see the tail is like a rat on that one that jumps up on the log.

      beaver cause massive destruction and are not endangered at all. In fact because people dont harvest them they are overpopulated in many places. Furthermore, the state government spends thousands to tear out dams that cause flooding. So it is good!v
