'Friday the 13th: The Game' is a big hit with gamers and horror heads everywhere. But 'Friday the 13th' is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to movie maniacs murdering their way onto our game consoles. Spanning from the Atari 2600 to the modern era, games based on slasher movies have been part of the medium since nearly the beginning. So strap on your hockey masks and sharpen your machetes, because we’re taking you on a peaceful camping trip through the history of slasher games.
From the 2600’s ‘Halloween’ game and ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ game to the 'Friday the 13th' NES game and 'Nightmare on Elm Street' NES game, we’ll show you the humble 8-bit origins of killers like Michael Myers, Leatherface, Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees. Game systems didn’t have the guts to render the bloodshed of these classic horror franchises, but with today’s technology slasher games almost look better than the real deals. 'Until Dawn,' 'Dead by Daylight' and, of course, 'Friday the 13th: The Game' are some of the greatest gory games in recent memory, and hopefully they’ll bring about ever scarier developments in the history of slasher games.

I'd love to see a Halloween game with the gameplay structure of Alien Isolation. I think Michael Myers would be terrifying in that format

From what you covered in the video, you described Dead By Daylight as the inferior clone of Friday the 13th. Well since Friday the 13th is literally closing down it's servers later this year, Dead by Daylight is literally your only option if you want to kill people as your favorite horror movie killers. Additionally, DbD has actually acquired rights for plenty of killers. They have Michael, as you have mentioned, Freddy Kruger, The Pig from the Saw franchise, and Leatherface. Not to mention all of those killers have their licensed survivor counterparts, such as Laurie Strode, Detective David Tapp, or Quentin Smith. Even their original killers, such as the Doctor, could have a movie made about them and it would still be enjoyable. The game itself is boatloads of fun, and should really have a larger playerbase. The point is, Dead by Daylight is a lot more than what you've explained in the video.

It would be cool if they made more games like Friday the 13th but with different movies (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Scream, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, etc.). I know they already have these characters in DBD, but it would be neat to have a separate game based entirely around the character. Plus from what I've heard, DBD is horribly unbalanced and has a salty community.

There was this crappy forgotten f13 game that had a jason, with full blown hair, and no mask at all.

I play Dead By Daylight every week. I played FT13th once and stopped.
I like this new channel but I feel they lack the personality like source fed. I think they should do like two hosts and try to be a bit funnier
I think it's because they're so new. I can see them becoming more engaging as they grow into their own style. I'd DEFINITELY like to see more interaction between hosts, though.

Although the slasher games are not for everyone, I can understand why they are popular. When it comes to popular villains like Micheal Myers, Jason Vorhees etc, we are watching to see how the victim escapes. All the while, when most die we sometimes ask "why didn't they do that" or "I would of done this!" kind of statements. It's as Uproxx stated perfectly - The slasher film, as a rule, is a celebration of violence. It is designed to titillate with images of half-naked teens and twentysomethings being brutalized in shocking ways. In the horror community, “kills” are a thing to be celebrated and ranked in order of gruesomeness. And as has been noted in numerous think pieces on the genre, slashers tend to have a puritanical, sexist streak: men and women (but especially women) are generally killed off if they are promiscuous or beautiful or take off too much of their clothing. With few exceptions, the Final Girl is virtuous and pretty-bordering-on-plain. Shockingly little has changed since the genre became a phenomenon in the early 1980s. And with video games at an all time high, it makes perfect sense to have slasher games. What's more potent (or disturbing) is that most games give you the option of playing the killer. Which is slightly disturbing considering how graphic the killings can be. So, I myself am impartial to this. As I said I understand why the slasher games are popular but I think there should be limits to the graphic nature of the genre.
As as always, a great video. You guys have certainly earned my respect and full praise for your content.
