Can the gentleman narrating do more stories? He is an incredible story teller with such charisma and personality it brought the tale to life for me! Kudos!
As a romanian, i want to add two things: 1. Between getting killed by a disloyal boyar (most plausible option) and his victory against the sultan, he actually was imprisoned by hungarians for a decade (he went at them to help him agaimst radu as he saved their asses from the ottomans, but because he impaled many german merchants that he thought were ripping off his nation of resources to sell them cheaper, he killed them and pissed off the hungarian king that was told by other german merchants how evil he is) before taking the throne back and dying killed by one of radu's loyalist boyars. 2. The sultan actually declared his respect for vlad after he saw the forest of impaled, because he knew it was the only way vlad could beat him. The sultan wasn't that scared. His army was.
Here's the truth. For famous national historical figures the line between hero and villain is often blurry. MOST national heroes have done some equally bad things or something unethical that a person can argue makes them a villain. This is the main reason why in religions they warn people not to have false idols. It doesn't just include false gods. It also includes being a over excessive fan of a famous person or anything. It's because often celebrities have disappointed people in some line. When this happens the fan acts crazy trying to deny any wrong doing, and helps him escape the repercussions of the bad action. The key to remember here is people globally must understand they should quit having the mindset of thinking everything in history can be defined as good vs. evil. Then try to define what qualifies as having enough requirements to declare one side or person as evil or bad. If you do it's just going to lead to annoying keyboard raging debates where nothing gets really resolved. Instead just view every event and every historical person as this side versus another. Neither was really, "The bad guy," or, "The good guy." It's really just two animals (people/nation) competing when it comes to historical conflicts. For national heroes, ALL of them they are going to have cases flawed moral superiority. People should not be afraid of talking and teaching about any wrong doing. Just remember if you or another person finds anything bad you cannot really always convince people to stop treating them like a hero for every case. It's because life is not really that fair, and majority of the time what really makes a person national hero or villain is really politics more than anything else. If their politics aligns with yours and you like the fact it crusaded as a leader for it, by all means celebrate them. Just don't think they have to be declared a good guy official in a book, or everyone should see him the same way as you do.
He first offered the beggars free land of his own estate that they might earn a living and feed themselves. Only one beggar showed up THAT is when he sent out the invitation to all the beggars that he was holding a feast and everyone showed up. Plague indeed.
This man is a superb narrator of the tale, what could be a relatively dull, well-known list of information is brought to life with vigour and charisma.
The description of the impalement process was very inaccurate. AFAIK, it was done like this: 1) get a stick and make it pointy, but not pointy enough to pierce meat easily, just pointy enough that you can shove it up the spot where the sun never shines, despite being a bit too wide... 2) oil it well and insert it into the victim 3) slide the pole into a premade hole and let gravity do the rest... If all is done correctly, the internal bleeding should be minimal, allowing the victim to survive for at least 24h without losing consciousness...
As a Romanian I can say that this gentleman covered almost everything important about Dracula ,tho he is no villian ,today he is viewd very well by us since the country is filled with corupt politicians (nobility) , beggars and homeless ,and also gypsies...I mean thieves I also feel very proud that I come from a town where Dracula owned a castle
Hello from Romania 🇷🇴👌. Our great hero Vlad was born not in Wallachia, but in our other province call Transylvania, at the city call Sighișoara. Except the part with born place and to be extreme evil , he was fairy and judge criminals with his favourite methods . But all the other what you said is correct 👍. For us he is a great hero ,how punnish crimes, thiefs, corruption, corrupt rich boyars , invaders, and others. People from Romania prays each day that Vlad to come back to life and to give the impales to actual politicians how deserves realy deserves it . Impale style👌😂🔝
The Keeper of the Stool was a responsible position. The king sat on his high throne for hours, even though he was actually a human. But below his throne, on the floor below, was the large pot for the excrement etc. If Vladimir saw that opportunity he would surely find a big sharp stick.
I was really surprised, when I heard that that guy is still the national hero of Romania. A guy, that burnt his own settlements, poisoned his own wells in order to make an advance of the Ottomans hard and to top it all off, he impaled POWs and used them as waypoints, like one every 10m, the entire way! Moreover, he saw that messenger refused to remove his turban, thus he ordered that it would be nailed on his head! And so many other things...
In terms of war tactics, many many generals that are celebrated went full scorched earth when being invaded by a greater enemy. In terms of his brutality, he used fear to level the playing field with his enemies. The Ottomans were a terrifying power at the time. Such tactics were likely seen as necessary.
I hope he skipped over Vlads most note worthy example of diplomacy to be a gentleman. He demanded the emissaries remove their turbines because they offended him. The emissaries refused so Vlad concluded negotiations by having the Turbines nailed to their heads and sending the heads back in a box. Maybe it was the offensive offer the Ottoman demanded. Generalised rudeness was an ongoing trait in those times.
Isn't this the guy from "The Great War" ? Anyway, I like how he said the story, there are huge misconceptions about Vlad: 1. He was the king or the count of Transylvania (while he was the voivode of Wallachia or "The Romanian Country" how is called in romanian sometimes, he was just born in Transylvania) 2. Ţepeş means "the impaler" (while the word ţepeş does mean nothing in romanian, is just a reference that he impaled thieves or traitors in "ţeapa" how is called in romanian) 3. Vlad was defeated by Mehmed ii (while Mehmed never defeated Vlad, but in 1976 he was delivered from Mathias Hunyadi, the cousin of Vlad, by Stephen the Great, another cousin of Vlad :)), but he was assassinated by unknown men, most probably boyars and his head was sent to sultan Bayazid ii, the son of Mehmed in a plate with honey and impaled by the sultan).
Trăiască balaurul .If you can't win then survive and wait and strike on oportunity.A good working man has dirty hands not by his liking but his need only hipocrits deny the fact that if you want to live something else must die.
If people in general were way more reasonable, and a lot wiser, many, many, many things wouldn't have to happen. What I mean is, let's not judge a guy who had to deal with an empire ruled by absolutely delusional a-holes, who were convinced the whole world was theirs because "god" said so, and with a whole country with way to many people who thought it didn't matter "to whom you pay taxes". Be reasonable, be wise, learn some ethics, and everything will be fine.

I loved the tone, it felt like men-at-arms talking around a fire, great content!
This has been a very pleasent experience, love the story and the actor, really well done.

That’s the best telling of the Vlad genesis tale I’ve heard.
Wouldn't call him a villain though. He's celebrated as a national hero here in Romania.

How else can you deal with radical islam?
As a Greek I share his hatred of Ottos.
@@deesminutemansupplywarhamm6078 u deal with radical Islam as would deal with radical christianity...
So, there is no difference between good or evil, It only depends
I'm glad budget cuts haven't destroyed the armouries and its fantastic team of re-enactors, even if there is less jousting these days.
This guy’s great in every video you’ve got him in :)
What a pleasure to listen to. Granted it's a bit macabre, but I like the performance. There are way too few Storytellers around
Enjoying my Corona virus isolation with these videos.
Absolutely amazing. Excellent story teller! There should be more videos of him!
Marvelous performance!
i am so impressed by this man's ability to tell stories

Wow, this is great! Glad to see some content we can enjoy here. Would like to go to the events, but sadly I can't.
Thos was amazing the storyteller was fantastic and truly engaged with his audience absolutely fantastic
Really good presentaotion of the story, thanks!
This was incredibly interesting and well told! Please let this man do more stories like this! 😊
Who's the one person who dislikes every Armouries video?
The old bandit, he didnt like it
They don’t like it up ‘em.
Great storyteller!
That was phenomenal, what a top bloke!
Utterly terrifying
accurate analysis
A nice presentation, but he gets a few bits wrong. Then again, you may not want to hear an accurate description of impalement.

I visited that area of Romania back in 1995. It was a very, very poor country.

Vlad was a hero!
Vlad The Inhaler
I love this guy!
Hi, love the concept but the experience is let down by the sound quality. Subtitles would be a quick cure. Thanks.
Vlad didn't impale through the stomach though...
good on him! what a kind man! ???
Yes, not through the stomach. It involved a large block of lard, or if he was feeling kind margarine!
great tavern stories
Really wanted to enjoy this but the audio is hard to listen to.
Vlad Tepes was basically the medieval equivalent of Light Yagami.
Vlad was a great man and a fine leader, we need his type back today, he knew how to deal with M invaders, get him to deal with the problems at Dover.
The Keeper of the Stool was a responsible position.
The king sat on his high throne for hours, even though he was actually a human. But below his throne, on the floor below, was the large pot for the excrement etc.

Oooh, this is really interesting, is there a list of sources for this???

Who is this guy? He's a great storyteller any time he's in one of the RA videos.
seriously though who is talking through his presentation or is the mic just in a bad area
Whatever he was I would never hire him to resurface my driveway
Had to scare the enemies till the help he was to get. Never did, on his own.
I was born in Medias Romania :)
I love when people pronounce Wallachia properly!
Now there's a man who knew how to deal with the buggars.
He was a Holy Crusader and hero.
I think that it was the order of the dragon overthrown. It refers to Satan as the dragon.
The actor reminds me a lot of a Bard

I don’t find that offensive
That was pretty neat
Mircea the younger- Mircea the great was Vlad Dracula's grandfather

You mean Wladislaus Dragwlya, in Latin, and Vladislav Draculea, in Romanian.
No you twerp ! It was Duckula I asked about !
