Not-so-fun fact about the community: after the manga chapters came out and showed that Star was going to die, a vocal minority started accusing Horikoshi of hating women. Anything from fridging Midnight to give her students emotional trauma, to the extensive injuries and experiences that Ragdoll, Mirko, and Nagant underwent, to focusing less on the female students was used as "evidence" to prove their point. It was not pretty. Notably, some of the people that made these arguments had a tendency to leave out Big Sis Magne's death while pleading their case... make of that what you will.
Mha is pretty sexist but atleast it's not transphobic, since Magne as a trans woman also got the short end of the stick like the other women in the show
Honestly? This is one of the major reasons I dropped MHA. They introduce this hero who was said to be in the same league as All Might, as well as the strongest woman in the world, and then they fridge her almost instantly. Why didn't she try to avoid fighting Shigaraki? I know he intercepts her, but she could have tried to disengage and keep heading to Japan rather than fight there. Three of Japan's top heroes were close enough that they at least saw the blasts from the battle. Above all else though, I feel like they wrote her into a stupid corner where she actually handicapped herself due to her own admiration of All Might. She goes through that entire fight and they establish that she can actually impose TWO rules at a time. However, she never chooses to change the rule giving her super strength similar to All Might's. Why would she not cancel that rule, at least temporarily, to impose a rule that she could have combined in this fight with a villain THAT SHE SHOULDN'T BE GETTING IN MELEE WITH??? Like when she turned the air into a vacuum around Tomura. She could have just gone "The air around Tomura is a Vacuum. The air around the Vacuum is impenetrable." Boom, he's now caged in the vacuum and can't escape. I get that she can't win since she isn't the MC, but not fully utilizing her quirk just because she wanted to have muscles like All Might is such lazy writing and choosing to follow through with that to her being immediately killed right after being introduced is infuriating. That said, I have no issue with her final act of the rule that destroys other quirks; it was the best move she could make after having already lost the fight. Between how this character was used and a few other writing choices, I dropped the series and just check in occasionally.
she had already dropped the super strenght rule last episode dude, she's just naturally muscular aswell so she didnt deflate all might style, but the super strengh was gone, did you kind of just forget she kind of had a gaint air version of herself while combining all those lasers into one? which requires to set rules on 2 diffrent objects to pull off, which she achieved by dropping the rule set on he own body, which is why she was visually damaged when she did that move while she wasnt while being super powerd because the damage she had taken in the fight so far was now more severe proportional to how much her depowerd state can take
