i just posted a comment similar to this. Its what the SCP community used to be like, simple but genius ideas written simply, wheras nowadays it seems to be amateur authors intent on adding their own mark to the universe. It changes as all things do, but part of me wishes the community had stayed the way it was.

The SCP foundation should be glad it wasnt a "Do-Draug" (Toilet Draug).
(actual folktale creature that would slap your butt or testicles when you were using the toilet)
Although that would make a fun story.
The old Norse would bend or break the swords of their slain so they wouldnt come back to haunt them with something sharp in hand.
Restless spirits not being able to pass on was a legitimate fear, both in fear of being haunted, and being the one who haunts.
Him finally letting go of the sword and finding rest seemed not just symbolic, it actually touches on some old superstitions, and i found that cool.
My bias for Norway aside, I quite liked this one.

F you for putting me so close to tears without warning.
But really, beautiful breakdown of the scip. The implication it finally found peace/rest once it let go of the weapon of a warrior and grasped the items of family life is such an interesting moment, especially given the implications of where the old Norse belieced their souls went depending on the circumstances of their death.

It's highly unlikely that our resident zombie should have been able to recognize the Mjölnir idol as the hammer necklaces was a Christian missionary synchronism method to convert Scandinavia becoming popular around the 10th century.
However he might have some recollection around the symbolism of it, tho I guess we'll never know how much of the original Scandinavian mythology is original as even the Poetic Edda was written well after the christianisation.

This is like a lighter, sweeter version of a story involving an undead like that. At the end, some smaller details were explained that caused its reaction to make sense. It was taken back by a female deep voice because Valkyries were typically more masculine women, but they were still very beautiful as the undead was trying to make out if it was a Valkyrie or its wife. It finally let itself pass on when it realized that it wasn’t its wife, and thought her to be a Valkyrie so he decided to finally let himself pass on in the hopes that he would see his wife. Knowledge of mythology, given the prerequisites necessary in order to do that, he’s met them all. Given that this is the SCP foundation, he probably will actually see his wife. It’s a really sweet story.

  • @declancampbell1277

these are my favorite SCP articles and videos to listen to. No 8 part series with the author inventing half a hundred new terms for their article alone, no convoluted narrative with dozens of characters, just a simple premise written excellently, and in this case a rather heartwarming message, though usually its a terrifying one instead.
It harkens back to the orginal SCPs, where you were given the number, the class, the containment procedures, and the description of the SCP. I know it sounds awfully like gatekeeping but i wish the SCP fandom had stayed like that, it was the birthplace of so many unique ideas, whereas now it just seems to be a place for amateur authors to sharpen their skills.

Somewhat timely after rewatching Justice League Unlimited S3E4 "To Another Shore". That tale showcased an immortally damned (and implyingly rendered dormant in the 21st century setting by way of iceberg imprisonment) warrior prince Norseman who finally got closure by being given a farewell to the Earth's sun, to anyone curious. With that, may he have reunited with his own beloved Valkyrie up above in Valhalla, even against Odin's wishes.
