Kate Pierson & Cindy Wilson have great voices and harmonize great
Great band live! So much energy, so fun and those gals sang their asses off! Had a huge crush on Kate, too! Lol Beautiful lady!
for those who like Kate Pierson then watching Iggy Pop - Candy is a must
Fact's
As mentioned Kate singing with our beloved crazy guy, Iggy Pop,
singing Candy!
Foxy too!
Roam is my favorite. The girls have amazing harmonies, and this was their best.
Agree!
Mine too
Exactly!👍🏻
Gorgeous.
Subaru NZ used "Roam" in a 2004 ad for their AWD cars ua-cam.com/video/_wEF38RUO6M/v-deo.html
This entire album, “Cosmic Thing” from 1989 is wonderful with many hidden gems. Love Shack gets lots of airplay but this entire B-52s album is worthy of every song and every listen! Enjoy!
What a great opener to the album too!Cosmic! Wooooo #loveit
It’s so hard to pick a favorite off this album but Topaz is way up on the list for me.
@@dipsydoodle7988 Yup! But don't sleep on "Deadbeat Club" What a catchy fun tune!
@@jeffpawlinski3210 for sure. I am also very partial to Channel Z and June Bug. Especially the live version of that song.
All great suggestions, but don't forget Bushfire. 🎶 My mind's been going places without me lately. 🎶
Oh I love this one ! Kate Pierson’s collaboration with R.E.M. on “Shiny Happy People” is worth checking out as well.
Dang it! No way!
That’s what it was this whole time.
Candy by Iggy Pop and Katie Pearson is better, but yeah.
Glad you mentioned that gem.
She sang in three songs of REM's "OUT OF TIME": SHINY HAPPY PEOPLE, ME IN HONEY and NEAR WILD HEAVEN.
and let's not forget the one with Iggy Pop
My favorite B-52's song by a wide margin. We love Fred Schneider, but this is better for him sitting it out. Just let Kate & Cindy's harmonies shine.
Why do I love this channel? Amber's smile when she gets into the music. It's pure joy.
Yes yes yes
Yes she does have a great smile
So true!!
I liked the channel when Jay first started alone but Amber really brings it alive. The interaction between the two of them is so organic and you can tell they’re a beautiful couple.
I agree.
Amber just get what music is supposed to be, it’s to evoke an emotion and I love every moment!!!
Those girls have fantastic voices and harmonies between them and Rock Lobster Rules!
Next song needs to be Private Idaho!
The B-52's are unique and totally wacky while being very cool musically. They are essential listening for the 80's party vibe.
Jay/Amber, you'll love their "Private Idaho" and "Party Out Of Bounds"!!!
You guys might like Private Idaho by them. Quirky...!
No, Jordan will not like those 😁
My Own Private Idaho and Mesopotamia are two of my favorites!
Mesopotamia is underrated and I like it a lot. (I like Private Idaho too.)
Legal Tender is a great song with Kate and Cindy taking lead on vocals. It's actually the first music video I saw of theirs and probably my favorite song of theirs. I love their whole Whammy! album.
Yes, Whammy is a great album!
Legal Tender is my favorite
"walk into the bank try to pass that trash"
@TreyceM Teller sees and says "Uh-huh! That's fresh as grass!"
Yes Legal Tender is great
Saw them last month on their farewell tour and they killed it. The women can still hit those high notes. It was so fun.
I did, too. They were amazing!
Good grief! I didn't know they were still performing.
They are about to start a Vegas residency.
@@bigolhomo That's cool!
“Song for a future generation “ is awesome. You’ll enjoy it, I promise.
Their album “Cosmic Thing” yielded this and Love Shack. They made 1989/90 so enjoyable!
It was way before that they formed in 1976
Another B52s song that foregrounds the female vocalists is "Give Me Back My Man" from 1979-80, and a really rocking B52s song that even Jay might like is "Private Idaho" from 1979-80.
Don't forget "52 Girls," which is one of their most rockin' numbers.
"Private Idaho" def needs to be their next listen!
Listening to it right now. "I'll give you fish!"
Let me add "Dirty Back Roads" as well. There's a great YT video linked here: ua-cam.com/video/r4qbZxzQ3Js/v-deo.html
The B-52’s and REM are both from Athens, GA. They had a song together called “Shiny Happy People”. It’s a fun and joyous song. Check it out!
Kate Pierson has one of the best voices of all time. She sings backup for several other groups. Can't miss her amazing voice.
Kate and Cindy are two of the greatest singers of their generation, and the two of them singing together is truly divine.
Kate Pierson & Cindy Wilson are incredible singers, both solo and their ability to harmonize. Try "Private Idaho" or "Give Me Back My Man" with Cindy singing lead.
Private Idaho is my favorite!
The redhead singer (idk her name).. her voice harmonizes perfectly with Michael Stipe (REM) in the song "Shiney Happy People". If you can hear that song & watch the video & still not smile, you're 100% dead inside 😬
"Private Idaho" is essential B-52's. Amber will love the quirkiness. Jordan, hmm, maybe not so much. Hopefully we'll see.
Cindy and Kates vocals are so soulful and fun at the same time. Their harmonies are fire.
Did you guys know Phil Collins and Phillip Bailey of Earth Wind and Fire did a song together called Easy Lover? Really cool song! If you haven't already heard it before you should check it out!
Yep. Phil produced that album.
Great song!
Yeah definitely that song!
These ladies are gorgeous. Great singers. B-52s were huge in the new wave, punk, and alternative scene back in the days.
The B-52's took over where ABBA left off with the girls being lead vocals. This my favorite song by them and came while i was stationed in Then West Germany in the US ARMY 1988-1991. Each time i hear it, it brings back memories of those 2 years in West Germany. So much fun, and had the hots for Cindy so cute. Funny story when i heard this song for the first time i told 2 of my buddies, "Have you heard this New group The B-52's?" On of them said dude they've been around since 1979. Oh. I felt so stupid as i hadn't heard of them before 1989. Gosh i miss those days, can i go back.?
Cindy Wilson sings "Give Me Back My Man" by herself as the lead vocalist in her growl while the rest of the B-52s plays and dances. But you won't recognize the sound on Give Me Back My Man compared to this Roam song because it's their early stuff from decades ago in a different style. Still with quirky lyrics though as you'd expect from the B-52s.
My absolute fav B-52's song is "Deadbeat Club". It's not like anything you've heard from them and I think you would love it.
The harmonies, just wonderful.
"America's Party Band"! Always a fun time! Quirky, goofy, loveable, and addictive to dance to.
The lead singer on this one is Kate Pierson. Next stops:
REM, featuring Kate Pierson, "Shiny Happy People"
Iggy Pop, featuring Kate Pierson, "Candy"
Their first two albums are just brilliant. When Ricky Wilson died, this album was the bands bounce back. This track expresses their feelings for him.
In an interview, Cindy Wilson said that this song is about death and how one’s spirit is free from the body to roam.
love the B52's, classic music also love amber's hair done like that.
the B-52 are as much performance art as a band. I saw them live, and still one of the best concerts I've been to, the whole crowd was having great time with the band... And yes they're trying to weird and fun
This band has many, many great songs and this is coming from a ROCKER. 🔥🔥♥️👍
You guys have to hear “Shining Happy People” by R.E.M.! Kate from The B52s joins in on that track and it’s so much fun!
Luca made me smile so he did his duty!! :)
21 years young and first married when this came splashing onto MTV. Luv this fun song. Thanks guys. Brings back good times.
This song is such a "college song" from the late 80s. I always link Roam with Big Pig's "I can't break away" from Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. I miss the 80s!
I took a lot of comfort from this album and especially from this song. When "Roam" became super popular, I had a very young child and was a single mother in my third year of engineering school. It was a ROUGH time, but the B-52s, especially "Roam", helped get me through. Without wings, without wheels!
Thought Jay would like this, knew Amber would. Y'all have made me smile today
Roam and Love Shack are when B-52's got watered down a little and were more commercially accepted. Some of their best stuff is their earlier stuff. You may have been put off by Rock Lobster but when you break it down there was some genius going on in that song. Private Idaho and Give Me Back My Man were some good songs.
Love this song, I love the B-52s vibe and sound. Great choice
By the Late 80s everybody thought that the B-52s were done then they released a Gem of a song like this screaming : "We're still here! Remember us?" The entire album were this Song came from was fantastic!
My wife and I "roamed" around Europe a few times when we were first married in the '90s, and this was one of our jokey songs on those trips. It's a happy, upbeat song, but it brings tears to my eyes because it reminds me so much of her, who twenty years later we lost to cancer in only her 40s. It's a bittersweet song, but I still come back and listen to it every once in a while just to remember those times.
"Private Idaho" is my favorite from the B-52's I'm pretty sure Amber will dig it & I want to see "J's" reaction because it is a bit quarky like Rock Lobster :)
I always preferred this song to Love Shack.
Me too
I prefer Channel Z and Deadbeat Club myself.
@@netrider5 I love Channel Z and I think Legal Tender is fun.
Totally agree with you
I just wrote this same post...then I saw yours...I feel you ..this song was way better
This song reminds me so much of high school.
So many good memories of the B-52s! "Dance This Mess Around" is another of my favorites by them.
When this song came out in 1990 I was literally doing my big OE in Europe as a 21 year old. Basically roaming around Europe by coach. It was the best time
This song is great! Having multiple vocalists makes for a wider variety of music while still being identifiably B-52s. This song was at the top of the pop charts. And they played REAL instruments.
B52's "Cosmic Thing" was their most mature and commercially successful album. It wasn't a "sell out", it was their best material!
My private Idaho is another cool song. Great party group with a variety of sound.
The most fun band! The B52's!...Brilliant Sound Brilliant Lyrics.....Mid Century Rock n Roll!
You really should do shiny happy people with REM and b-52’s amber would love it , it’s no rock lobster but jay would like it too
Just Kate Pierson from the B-52 on that song/video, but great song!
I was never really a B-52's fan but the older I get the more I appreciate the great harmonies of Kate and Cindy.
Jay must have been in the Christmas spirit to give the B52's another try :)
Iggy Pop & Kate Pierson (from the B-52's) - Candy
Listen to The B-52's, "Private Idaho"!
Roam is s my favorite song of the 90’s- it makes me feel so free and happy!
Great band! When "Rock Lobster" hit the charts, John Lennon told Yoko that her music style finally got popular!
Great song, absolute hit, from B-52's.
Kate Pierson who did the lead vocal on this song, worked also with Iggy Pop on another super hit like "Candy", and other artists like REM in "Shiny happy people".
Regards from Chile 🙂
Fun song!!!! All the B 52’s is fun stuff! AMBER if I may I have a comment just for you that I’ve wanted to say for a long time. You look absolutely fantastic!! I was so impressed how fast you got back to yourself after being pregnant!!! I hope in some way my comment doesn’t offend you! Some may take it the wrong way. I mean it with all sincerity! Be proud of yourself girlie!! 3 kids and you are right back to yourself! I know many are jealous!! Lol. I’m sure it’s a lot of hard work and I wanted to
Acknowledge That!
Merry merry to you all!! ❤
Don't worry, J; this ain't no Rock Lobster.
Iggy Pop with Kate Pierson on the song Candy - her voice is crazy amazing ❤
You should also check out their song Deadbeat Club.
I love EVERYTHING about this song! I have since I first heard it in 1990.
Also, that stringed instrument that y'all were wondering about is called a shamisen, a traditional Japanese instrument not unlike a banjo (on that note, I recommend the Yoshida brothers).
Produced by legendary CHIC co-founder and genius Nile Rodgers!
"Rock Lobster" is EVERYTHING!!!! At da Club, it was ALWAYS hard to find a place on the dancefloor when that cut came on, but it was ok to dance on top of each other, nobody cared, it was understood, we were all there to have a good time.
Love this one. I would also recommend Planet Claire by the B-52s. You will also love Kate Pierson singing with Iggy Pop on Candy.
For the first time in 34 years I've finally got see them performed live just a month ago and they sounds so amazing.
Just in time as it is their farewell tour.
My favorite B52's track...but l love them all. This is just polished and more pop like.
Kate and Cindy's voices are both showcased well in this song, featuring their beautiful harmonies. This is a great fun song, which is not just about travel - "roam" and "around the world" can also be sexual references. For a great Cindy song, try "Give Me Back My Man." Kate has an amazing duet with Iggy Pop called "Candy."
You want more "fun" B-52s, you gotta hear "Good Stuff". It's bright and peppy and really upbeat... without (most of) that Rock Lobster weirdness. :) Gotta admit, Cindy Wilson and Kate Pierson are quite unlike any other lead-singer duo you've ever heard... and then when you add Fred Schneider into the mix... BOOM.
"Planet Z" is my fave off this album. Speaking of quirky David Byrne of the Talking Heads produced a song by the B-52's called "Mesopotamia" that kills.
Yes! Mesopotamia is my fave b52s song!
A great deal of B52’s music was pure fun but they are very talented and have a great sound. Jay needs to lighten up and just enjoy what’s meant to be funny. 🎄🎁🎄
---> Jay needs to re-watch Rock Lobster now that he "gets" the B-52's. Everyone would love to see reaction #2. That song can take anyone off guard the first time. If he still hates it the second time, it would be even more epic. LOL! Happy Holidays to everyone! :)
Topaz, Channel Z and Bushfire off this same album are great. Quiche Lorraine is another great quirky song and Strobe Light is fun!
Wow after Rock Lobster🦞🦞🦞 I never thought we'd see the B52's again. Glad you're back. This is a great tune with such great energy. You never know what you're gonna hear.Great reaction.Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦 🇨🇦
I like Private Idaho, warning it has a bit of a similar vibe to rock lobster in that the guy sings in this one along with the ladies. I like the song but I’m a Rock Lobster fan. 😁
"Give Me Back My Man" is squarely in the middle between "Rock Lobster" and "Roam"
The B’s put Athens, GA on the map. Those of us who’ve benefited from Athens music owe them so much. They are just FUN! Kate & Cindy smash this one.
B-52s are very important and it's good that you finally got to this one! If you like Kate Pierson's (the non-blonde) voice you may want to check out a duet that she did with Iggy Pop called Candy. Their voices compliment one another well. You reacted to Iggy's "The Passenger" some time ago (one of my favorite songs by any artist), so it wouldn't be a new group at all but maybe honorable mention for being a new pairing?
I love this band so much, they are one of my all time favorites. They have got it all-the funnest music ever. ❤️❤️❤️
This is my first song to play on a hot summer day’s drive on the highway-roll down the window and just blast this while I sing along with the girls.
This is a classic driving song-play it in a convertible, on a sunny warm day, and it will make you smile.
They do a real cool version of the Flintstones theme from the first live action movie.
Roam has got to be my favourite song from the b52s and one of my favourite songs of all time can happily listen to it over and over again
After guitarist Ricky Wilson passed away in 1985, their sound was just different. Also, Kate Pierson did vocals with REM on Shiny Happy People.
More memories of great times! I remember driving to the beach with a car full of friends the summer before our senior year singing this at the top of our lungs and loving life.
Didn’t know you were doing this! 😂❤❤❤I think quirky sums them up! They’re fun!❤
Great reaction as always. Suggestions for more great B52 reactions: Deadbeat Club, Revolution Earth, FunPlex, Planet Claire, Girl from Ipanema Goes to Greenland, Legal Tender, Private Idaho. There is plenty more to go round.
I don't recognize this song by the name, but I recognized the sound from the opening vocals. The B52s just aren't my thing, yet I still respect the vocal talents of the girls.
Great reaction, thanks guys. I have been a huge fan of The B52's for a long time.🥰
I'm not sure what amuses me more here. The song's been up about 1/2 hour and no one's mentioned that the song is totally and completely about coitus, or that you missed it completely as well. (There, I kept it as clean as I can.) "Take it hip to hip, rocket through the wilderness" is one of the many and incredible and hilarious double-entendres--the song is full of them. Love the B-52s for how they pulled this one off.
Coitus, 🤣🤣🤣 I love that you used that word. I was scrolling through looking for the first person to say it was sexual, surprisingly few people. It's all right there in the lyrics!
There's also the banana and donut image in the background on the first part of the video.
Like Devo, there aren’t a lot of B-52s songs that aren’t at least partially sexual. Think Lava! 😆
@@taniaPBear Me too and I landed here!
I had always thought this was from the first listen way back when since Around the World was basically slang for "69" (check out the merriam-webster dictionary online if you don't take my word for it). LOL, The trip begins with a kiss...
They have many great tracks.
I'm old enough to remember seeing them play when they were playing in local clubs. One of the things people noticed in those days as we would be up very close to the stage and you could see that the guitar was missing 2 strings . Many guitarists struggled to duplicate his sound and I forget who it was but the guy asked Ricky to tune his guitar to"standard tuning" and his response was something to the effect of" I don't know standard tuning .... I just tune it till I like the sound." Heard that he also played with 3 but after the early days, couldn't get close enough to see.
Dancing to Rock Lobster was the highlight of my high school prom - but love ROAM, too
This band is one of my all time favorites. Cindy Wilson especially is an amazing vocalist. Her voice has so much character and power. Her solo vocal songs for the B-52s is some of the best music ever. If you're looking for another great track try "Give Me Back My Man". Cindy really gets to shine there and it's amazing... and also weird haha.
Agreed! I've favored Kate for many years, but Cindy's talents have grown on me over the years, thanks to UA-cam. First of all, her presence was missed during the "Good Stuff" album. It was good, but I think it would have been better had Cindy been there... though I don't fault her at all for wanting to take time off after Ricky's death. Anyway, I've watched recent videos of her, and she has a lot more control and depth in her voice than she did in the early years. While the B-52s wouldn't be where they are without Kate, and while I can't imagine the band without her (there would be no B-52s without Kate!), I actually prefer Cindy's voice, now that I've heard more of it.
Love this song. Speaking of quirky and melodic... you should also check out the wonder that is XTC !!! Their song "Senses Working Overtime" is wonderful... as is most of their brilliant catalog! Cheers!
Dear God by XTC shaped me into the logical minded realist I am today. Good recommendation.
@@joyceraines8218 Love that song... but may not be a good starter song for XTC... I believe they're religious, so maybe "Mayor Of Simpleton," "Wrapped In Grey," "Harvest Festival," or "Love On A Farmboy's Wages"...
"Give Me Back My Man" has Cindy singing lead.....great early song by the band!
REM and Kate Pierson sing a duet on 'Me In Honey' which is spectacular and beautiful. One of REMs best songs!
This song is pure joy and positivity.
