The 2nd point about curiosity and autopiloting is something I have worked on myself recently and so it's nice to hear about the importance of it from someone else and the fact that it really can have a massive impact on things and is often something that is neglected by people (and previously myself) when looking to improve their game. Hi Ben. Just wanted to say I have really enjoyed your videos this year so thank you so much! I would love a mental game videos or set of videos. My big breakthrough this year was realising I was playing in autopilot WHILE in-game! Sounds weird, but while immersed in the game I usually was not aware of what was happening , only after looking back at a session. This in-game awareness (and the discipline of then doing something about it in-game!) has improved my game immensely. So, yes, would love some Curiousity Vids! Thanks again !

I would love to do more live content yeah. the issue is that I’m so far from everywhere in aus. and the. I take a prolonged uk trip which which kinda messes up the chance to go on other trips. definitely something I’ll consider more though mate

I struggle to fall asleep after a bad session and I honestly don't think I would have been able to do what you did this year, congratz! I would like to see a video where you coach some one, maybe easty?
I can relate to the difficulty in sleeping if I’ve had a particularly bad day (more so early in my career rather than now tho). could possibly consider a fly on the wall type mental game session but that does feel like it may cross some boundaries. something I need to give more thought!
AS someone who has been through many brutal downswings I love your mental game part. No one sees the horrific beats you get time and time again and ultimately no one even cares. But theres no point feeling sorry for yourself, it gets you nowhere. For some reason I would go to bed angry and sad but still wake up every day feeling like this is the day I will turn it around even after getting wrecked for thousands or sometimes hundreds of thousands of hands. Its probably delusional but for the people that arent natural sunrunners you need that delusion to survive

hey mate, thank you! focus on the small hands more than the big hands - these are where autopilot slips in more than any where else. honestly, it is so hard to have confidence in your game if you haven't experienced downswings before - this is where you need to surround yourself with more experienced players who can impart wisdom and support to you in these times of need. i guarantee that if you can stick this first one out (while doing the right things like honest study, breaks etc) you will be better equipped next time to manage the swing. you've got this mate

You are incredible. Congratulations, you deserve it. How big was the biggest downswing you had ever have? The biggest one I had was 43 buy ins, but right now I’m in the middle of a 50~ one. But I’m feeling pretty confident that everything is fine, and it’s just variance. I play a very simple and consistent strategy (which is not optimal, but it’s my choice so far), and I know it’s good enough to win in a 1M+ sample hand in my stakes, so I’m just showing up again and again and hoping that soon everything will be back to normal. Thank you for everything, man.

Game selection is becoming more and more important year after year, there is worse players that when game selecting, can crush for bigger winrates at 400-500NL than a top reg would battling GG 1k. Also volume of your grinding so many tables you will be missing note taking spots and lines weaker players are taking that you can exploit later. People are always in a rush to play the highest stakes nowadays for some sort of accomplishment when they would probably win even more money playing lower and less tables. That is a bottom 5% sample if I ever saw one, I'd say having that sort of year and still making double what I made (without the BBJ) is a testament really to your skill. When I had a bad year in all in EV it only gave me confidence I could hit my goals, no doubt you can do the same. I'd like to see more videos talking about mental game advice too, any techniques you use to stay present etc. GG on 2024, GL next year.
I’ve seen it occasionally on UA-cam when a higher stakes reg tackles the lower stakes and attempts to deal with the craziness there. My suggestion is that a specialty/fun video would be you battling at 10nl. Keep up the good work and I enjoy your well rounded videos, even though your approach is beyond me.1

i haven't played there for a while now but there were and insane number of bots last time i played. historically i have 5bb/100 there but yeah games seem shady af now
It is interesting. Have had a very similar year. In terms of showing up, have not really taken days off myself. But I have the urge to complain about it a bit. From your background, is complaining to process it a bad thing? I kinda feel like just being a hater for 5 minutes, finishes the problem for the day. Like no matter how you put it, loosing sucks haha! If u resolve your quarrels with the god, tell them to give me a call as well :D Best of luck for this year!!!! And great content as always! As for the suggestions. One thing I really think missing, which maybe you are the only qualified to do, is to showcase in action how mental game works. In terms of how our thoughts and emotions flees in different scenarios in live play. Essentially breaking down handhistories from an emotional standpoint. At least I would find this super interesting :)
hey mate. oh yeah, venting is 100% part of the process. i often finish a bad day and tell my wife about the dogshit that went down hahaha. this can be a very important an cathartic way of putting the session in the past and clear out some dust so to speak. good idea on the mental game/emotion stuff - i was definitely going to have a focus on the emotional processes going on during hands and how to identify certain processes that may be going on!
The number one reason I have failed in this game is because of a poor mental game and a miserable life outside of poker. Great advice Ben and gratz on enduring so much awful variance like a stoic champ!
I think that’s a very common experience in the poker space mate. I guess it’s about taking small steps toward finding balance rather than having that kinda black and white mentality where life needs to be perfect in all aspects
Ive been following your blog for years on 2p2, you're obv a legendary grinder, that said here are some thoughts. I think the times where you just sit down, open up any half decent tables that run and just grind are gone. Yeah can do that, but winrates are just so low and variance will be big. You're a bright guy and have a great poker mind, but imo raw skill is only one part of winning. How you manage where you play, who you play is as important. What im getting at is - GG is the worst place to play with toughest games. Shop around for better games, i personally know guys with half of your poker mind that do very well. Or better yet, start to learn PLO where 10-15bb is a realistic achievable winrate. GL!
can totally hear you on many of these points mate. I would say that I don’t see gg as being as low ev as you may think, although playing other sites alongside this grind is essential - I do play coin and ACR as well as gg, and I do cherry pick the better tables. or are you referring to app games/live/mtts? live and mtts come with a pretty horrible life schedule so they aren’t viable options for me. PLO is really the best option! I’ve actually considered learning the game for many years now but just haven’t had the right reason/drive to make the switch. how long do you think it would take to learn PLO to a great enough standard to beat mistakes?! cheers for your thoughts and following the journey bro!
@@BenaBadBeatPoker Yeah i just meant online cash and multi siting, not even apps. If someone is already good at poker its not hard to switch. I know 2 guys who were high stakes spin players and switched to PLO 6max without having any prior cash experience. Within 6 months both played up to 2k and last year made low-mid 6 figures. Personally i just play low stakes, but my $EV is somewhere between 5-10k month.
What software do you use to track all these statistics? I’ve been playing for years but never tracked. Taking it more seriously this year and would like to keep tabs on my P/L & my EV.

One day I aspire to have a year where I make 130k USD, then question myself where it all went wrong. 😂 For real though, some understandably tough periods to push through. You're an inspiration. Keep beasting it up. 💪

I think that a video comparing poker sites by rake at the various levels, bonuses and traffic would be really great. I would focus on cash games because that's what you are experienced on.
so on gg you are rewarded if you lose with a really good hand vs a better hand. In the case of this bbj you need to LOSE the hand with AAAJJ to a better full house or quads/royal flush. if you do that you get paid out a huge bonus

hey mate, thank you! focus on the small hands more than the big hands - these are where autopilot slips in more than any where else. honestly, it is so hard to have confidence in your game if you haven't experienced downswings before - this is where you need to surround yourself with more experienced players who can impart wisdom and support to you in these times of need. i guarantee that if you can stick this first one out (while doing the right things like honest study, breaks etc) you will be better equipped next time to manage the swing. you've got this mate

You are incredible. Congratulations, you deserve it. How big was the biggest downswing you had ever have? The biggest one I had was 43 buy ins, but right now I’m in the middle of a 50~ one. But I’m feeling pretty confident that everything is fine, and it’s just variance. I play a very simple and consistent strategy (which is not optimal, but it’s my choice so far), and I know it’s good enough to win in a 1M+ sample hand in my stakes, so I’m just showing up again and again and hoping that soon everything will be back to normal.

Game selection is becoming more and more important year after year, there is worse players that when game selecting, can crush for bigger winrates at 400-500NL than a top reg would battling GG 1k. Also volume of your grinding so many tables you will be missing note taking spots and lines weaker players are taking that you can exploit later. People are always in a rush to play the highest stakes nowadays for some sort of accomplishment when they would probably win even more money playing lower and less tables.

That is a bottom 5% sample if I ever saw one, I'd say having that sort of year and still making double what I made (without the BBJ) is a testament really to your skill. When I had a bad year in all in EV it only gave me confidence I could hit my goals, no doubt you can do the same.
I'd like to see more videos talking about mental game advice too, any techniques you use to stay present etc.

I’ve seen it occasionally on UA-cam when a higher stakes reg tackles the lower stakes and attempts to deal with the craziness there. My suggestion is that a specialty/fun video would be you battling at 10nl.

It is interesting. Have had a very similar year. In terms of showing up, have not really taken days off myself. But I have the urge to complain about it a bit. From your background, is complaining to process it a bad thing? I kinda feel like just being a hater for 5 minutes, finishes the problem for the day. Like no matter how you put it, loosing sucks haha! If u resolve your quarrels with the god, tell them to give me a call as well :D Best of luck for this year!!!! And great content as always! As for the suggestions. One thing I really think missing, which maybe you are the only qualified to do, is to showcase in action how mental game works. In terms of how our thoughts and emotions flees in different scenarios in live play. Essentially breaking down handhistories from an emotional standpoint. At least I would find this super interesting :)
hey mate. oh yeah, venting is 100% part of the process. i often finish a bad day and tell my wife about the dogshit that went down hahaha. this can be a very important an cathartic way of putting the session in the past and clear out some dust so to speak. good idea on the mental game/emotion stuff - i was definitely going to have a focus on the emotional processes going on during hands and how to identify certain processes that may be going on!
The number one reason I have failed in this game is because of a poor mental game and a miserable life outside of poker. Great advice Ben and gratz on enduring so much awful variance like a stoic champ!
I think that’s a very common experience in the poker space mate. I guess it’s about taking small steps toward finding balance rather than having that kinda black and white mentality where life needs to be perfect in all aspects

Ive been following your blog for years on 2p2, you're obv a legendary grinder, that said here are some thoughts.
I think the times where you just sit down, open up any half decent tables that run and just grind are gone. Yeah can do that, but winrates are just so low and variance will be big.
You're a bright guy and have a great poker mind, but imo raw skill is only one part of winning.
How you manage where you play, who you play is as important. What im getting at is - GG is the worst place to play with toughest games.
Shop around for better games, i personally know guys with half of your poker mind that do very well.
Or better yet, start to learn PLO where 10-15bb is a realistic achievable winrate. GL!
can totally hear you on many of these points mate. I would say that I don’t see gg as being as low ev as you may think, although playing other sites alongside this grind is essential - I do play coin and ACR as well as gg, and I do cherry pick the better tables. or are you referring to app games/live/mtts? live and mtts come with a pretty horrible life schedule so they aren’t viable options for me.
PLO is really the best option! I’ve actually considered learning the game for many years now but just haven’t had the right reason/drive to make the switch. how long do you think it would take to learn PLO to a great enough standard to beat mistakes?! cheers for your thoughts and following the journey bro!
@@BenaBadBeatPoker Yeah i just meant online cash and multi siting, not even apps. If someone is already good at poker its not hard to switch. I know 2 guys who were high stakes spin players and switched to PLO 6max without having any prior cash experience. Within 6 months both played up to 2k and last year made low-mid 6 figures.
Personally i just play low stakes, but my $EV is somewhere between 5-10k month.

what is BBJ?
so on gg you are rewarded if you lose with a really good hand vs a better hand. In the case of this bbj you need to LOSE the hand with AAAJJ to a better full house or quads/royal flush. if you do that you get paid out a huge bonus
