Fun Fact: You can get straight to the Boot Manager by holding Minus instead of Plus when starting your deck.
Thanks! This saved me some time
Newbie here, do you need to install other bootloaders (like Clover) or the bootmanager that comes from pressing that "-" + "Power" button already sufficient enough?
@@harry619You dont need clover. The boot loader you can access by holding the volume down and power button will work just fine and is probably safer
@@zwtmc Thank you for the reply!
@@zwtmc Thank you for this comment

Hey man, I just added Windows so I can dual boot windows on my steamdeck, worked 100%. Thanks man, instant subbed.
Appreciate you
100% Accurate. 0 Fat. It took about 2 hours total time with all the downloading and installing from scratch. It works great. Thank you very much.
Sir. You just helped me a ton. I don’t have to carry my shitty laptop and deck. Not I carry a small keyboard. Dock and my deck with a mouse. 15/10 tutorial. Best I’ve ever seen so far

This is an amazing video. Great work!
You literally made my deck so much more useful and amazing. Thank you very much for your research and time in this video 💯💯💯💯💯
I cant wait to do this, being able to try out fortnite will be cool
@@ultimatebreak827 did it work?
@@xdinorun yea it did but windows is slow and Fortnite doesn’t run very well
@@ultimatebreak827 so do you regret doing it? I was worried about doing it right after he said he made his own software or something for the screen to choose whether you want windows or steam os. kinda worried I might get a virus or sum
@@xdinorun It worked and everything but was super slow running off of a microsd card.
Great vid man, super concise and easy to follow!
Thank you
Best tutorial out here, chief. 10/10.
Thank you 🙏
thank you so much for your very thorough and straight to the point video
Happy to help
Extremely helpful and concise. Saved me from buying a windows handheld for a couple games.
It's amazing that Steam Deck is just so versatile handheld PC. Linux based SteamOS and Windows are both insane the Deck is my favourite tech ever.
Yes I feel the same! It’s amazing
Wow. Fantastic, concise information. Just made me a whole lot more comfortable with the process. THANK YOU!!

@@ChiefSweet just got it locked and loaded. Let's go!! Thanks, again.
Thanks for video, I will be doing this when my deck arrives
Wow, you nailed that explanation

Chief Sweet you are the s*** Thanks man

Crazy in less 10 minutes you can have a whole other operating system unlocking thousands of more games and possibilities im so hyped for my deck just bought it literally today now the waiting game :)
Yeah crazy stuff. Kind of exciting really 😁
@@ChiefSweet yo i finally installed windows i went the internal route and gparted my internal drive i went wit tiny11 since i have the 64gb model thanks outa everyone your the one who explains it best!
@christiansantamaria7233 how'd that go. I have the 256 gb sd and was gonna do it on that.
@@christiansantamaria7233do you need to pay for tiny 11
I wouldn't say 10 mins cause of that long process but yea
Well done. Best guide that can be.
Appreciate it
This is a awesome tutorial and 100% would recommend
getting my deck tomorrow. good video. subbed.
Appreciate you
THIS WAS THE BEST TUTORIAL THERE IS THE OTHERS WERE SO COMPLICATED I WAS GONNA GET SCARED OF MESSING IT UP😭
Happy to help
Hurrah! Fantastic video! 🎉
Thank you
Came across this video as i was looking up ways to setup dual boot for the deck. Really nice video and a pretty clear one! Just a quick question though, all these drivers, updates and etc. they all will be installed on the microSD card we use for the WinOS right? And also if we were to install games on the WinOS, i would assume everything will go into the SD card too?
Thanks once again, going to try this now. 👍
No problem glad to help. Let me know how it goes
nice, straight to the point
Very good guide, thanks a lot.
Best video tutorial I've seen on youtube. For more than 20 years of my life this is the best - please accept this medal 🥇 😆
Praising aside. Do you have any issues with this dual booting after 4 months of experience? Will this also affect any of my current data in my steamOS? Hopefully I can get an answer. Im kinda scared of dual booting my SD but I wanna play my windows games lol😅
Thank you very much! I have had no issues at all this entire time
Thank you so much for this!
No problem 😁
Great tutorial. What were you using to screen record on the Deck ?
Just as I was thinking about it this video pops up🙏
The algorithm knew
unreal tutorial! Super easy to follow and made the process absolutely fool proof!
All the other videos I have seen are way to dang long. Thank you for breaking it down. I have windows 10 right now without the dual boot and just want to play cod on the deck 😂
Understandable I bought the deck to play cod as well 😁
I've now done this but I had to use EasyUEFI to install Windows 10 to an external HDD, because my microSD card wouldn't format properly. I managed to follow your other steps though, so thanks for a helpful video!
Great video! Question now, do you have to always do that turn off and volume button to pick what to boot from? Also, does it delete anything you already have on your steam deck such as emulators, games and so on?
Very informative... Kudos to you
Thank you 🙏
Great tutorial, no fluff!
That is so cool and easy. I will definitely do that in a day or so
Very nice
Thank you this really is insightful!
I have a question. If I dualboot my steamdeck, can I download torrent games on it?
From SteamOS will I still be able to use free space on the SSD that has the windows install for game installs and such?
How do you get your SD card to be read on both windows and the deck? My brother set his to where he can transfer files from his pc to his deck but mine requires me to format it on each device before I can use it
This tutorial is perfect, but any chance you can do one for how to dual boot on internal storage instead of an SD card?
Good video. Thanks for the content @Cheif Sweet
Is Windows on the steam deck worth it? I remember early on alot of complaints about it being unplayable. Also, how much space does it take away from the internal storage? And do I need to keep the SD card in after it is installed when I want to play games on Windows?
If you download windows on the sd card you have to keep the sd card in. Windows 10 I think is worth it. Windows 11 isn’t worth it.
@@ChiefSweet why not windows 11?
hi if i don't have a flashdrive, what other options do i have? i do have extra sd card though? other than the one for my steam deck? pls help!
Great video this thanks 🙏 . I don’t own a steam deck as yet but may decide to sell my switch OLED and pick one up in the future. I’m assuming that if you dual boot the deck and use the SD card for windows, then the whole volume of the SD card can’t be used for storage in Steam OS. So I’m thinking if you plan to dual boot you may want to pickup one with larger internal storage if most of the games you play are from steam. For my I’d like to play FIFA or EA sports FC 24 on windows but I’ve heard of compatibility issues on the deck with these
Can you keep games installed on your sd card from steam os and get windows on the same card?
Hi! After installing windows 10 on the sd card, can it still be used as a normal external storage device when booting up with steam os?
hey question, one of the things updating is stuck at 44%... and I have a feeling that ALSO might be the cause of my steam games immediately crashing upon boot, and also my trackpad just straight up not working most times... help?
Bloat box is the next thing you should do after this! It'll relieve so much ram and cpu usage due to windows bloatware removal.
Dumb question, can I install windows 10 to the steam deck via the SD dock vs placing card into the deck itself? I have a 1tb card in the deck with a lot of junk I don't want to take out if I don't have to.
Great tutorial thanks
Happy to help
Thank you dude👍
No problem 😁
Tell me if you use this version of dualboota in the 64GB system + sd flash drive, I would like both systems to stand on the link. will there be enough space for two axes?
THANK you!!!! but I got a couple of questions ... So when i plugin my USB it doesnt seem to recognize it
Is there a way to make windows a bit more responsive when installed on a microsd? It is pretty slow afterall
Thanks for this video. Does the SD card last a long time before dying?
Bro, do i need to wipe all my data from sd card ? I have some games in micro sd, so they can live alongside without problems?
I want to know if you have a game installed on the STEAMOS, is it also shared on the WINDOWS? like it will appear flawlessly in any OS?
I have a flash drive but it’s a reader and I did all steps but can I use that same thing I installed the iso file to download the inter net and all that stuff and put it on the sd card?
is the sd required unlike non dual boot or is it not available without a sd card
Would this be possible to do on the steam deck alone? If you use proton to open the .exe files and set up everything up from the steam deck. Or is that just stupid
I have a question when i use sd card rufus and install windows inside him so can i used as an additional memory for the device or not ?
Great video chief!! whats ur thoughts on cryoutilities?
Thank you! I’ve seen it but I’d have to really dive in to give my full thoughts on it.
Thank you for this video, I just have one question though. If windows is installed on the sd card, then what happens if I take it out? What if it gets full? Also, I know I said one question, but is this whole process reversible?
Hi sir I've got a question. If I do put the windows OS on my Sd if it does update will the files be on the sd card or on the ssd?
Hi thank you so much for this tutorial, I’ll be getting my steam deck this week! Do you need a flash drive or would you be able to download the drivers onto your microsd or is there just a reason why it’s not preferred? Thank you!
No you can download them on your micro sd
@@ChiefSweet Hi Chief I have a question so when i completely install windows on the steam, Am i able to switch back to the Steam os without harming the system when installing windows:
@@obamao7145 yes at the end he explains how to go back to steam os, because this is all localized on the sd card it keep them completely seperate
When switching back to windows, you choose windows boot manager, like it showed at the top of your boot list?
Do i have to partition the ssd for window separately?
Can I still access files from steamOS when using window?
I have a question for the Wi-Fi adapter download. Can I use that to install Wi-Fi in a computer other than the steam deck or does it have to be the steam deck?🤔
is the installation process (besides obviously downloading iso and drivers) the same for dual booting arch?
Hi i have a question, if i decide to go back and remove just windows what do i need to do ? great tutorial by the way.
Thank you for your videos, i bought a steam deck about a month ago and upgrade the storage and was on the fence about windows on it. The question I have is, can I use the internal Nvme for windows and install steamos on the micro sd? And if so, which configuration would be best?
i dont rly think you can do that since you have to make it to a bootable device im not that sure but i dont think so
Do i do the same steps if im using a usb to dual boot? Like do i still use rufus or do i just download it directly to the usb via the Microsoft website
u able to do it with windows 11 also?
is it possible to load it all on my sd card where i have all my steam deck games on or does it have to be a whiped sd card
Great video! But I just have a question for you, if I have a 512gb micro sd card, will I be able todownload games on windows and steam if i have enough space?
Amazing tutorial! Is there any way to set the default boot drive to be Steam OS and only access Windows when I need to? I use Windows for work and I'll be travelling, so I wanted to use the Steam Deck for work but will mostly use it for gaming on the go.
Does is run good enough on the sd card for some MMORPG´s? For example Black Desert? i have a san disk a2 sd card.
Hello
Thank you for the helpful video. I wanted to ask you about windows system, would it affect the preformance in games? Because you know, windows takes some ram and CPU usage. Thank you.
You aren't using Windows and SteamOS at the same time, so each will perform normally. You need to decide which OS to boot into each time you want to play. Nowadays they trade blows on performance in games so I'd say only install games on Windows that either can't play on SteamOS or just perform worse than on Windows.
When I do this my boot screen looks different and it immediately asks to put in my key code. Are you skipping this part or did I do this incorrectly
when i try to install the first audio driver, there is no “install” button. pls help (im on windows 11)
can you do this on a SD card that is currently being used by the system? or do you have to wipe it/use a different one
Apparently dual boot on a sd card kill the deck. Be carefull
this allows me to take the sd card out if i wanna play games on a different sd card and if i wanna play windows games, i just put in the sd card and i should be good to go right?
off topic but been wanting to play Nascar 15 on my steam deck windows side, it definitely works just fine on proton/Lutris linux side but its kinda nice on windows as well lol 🏎🏁
