  • Plantations are not forests because they lack the biodiversity and ecological complexity of natural forests. While forests harbor diverse species of plants and animals at various growth stages, plantations generally consist of a single tree species, all of the same age, cultivated for commercial purposes. This uniformity severely limits the habitat and ecological functions that true forests provide.
