Funny, but sadly true. Nintendo from a legal and business side is not your best friend. They care about keeping the average customer happy (target audience being just people who like their games), but not community homebrew creators happy who want to actually improve what's already there and do a service.
This is exactly why Nintendo needs to be less uptight about it, like it's one thing if you are posting specifically about fan projects (which while still shitty, Nintendo does technically have full right to enforce their copyright), but unrelated Homebrew shouldn't be claimed cause the devs that work on these things might end up being the next big dev working on your platform in the future in official capacity bringing you lots of sales
Nintendo always had an answer to this particular answer just in case they were asked. They said a specific hour range but I did not pay too much attention to it. They basically that the amount of time that it is matches the normal amount of hours that the average player plays in a week. Every game that every player has ever played on emulation has been following that policy. I do not remember if it mentioned anything about how they felt about their games being pirated fully. They might have said something about it specifically, but I do not exactly remember. Do not ask me where I found this information at, because I do not remember. They have their reasons on not allowing fan made games involving Luigi on the most part being made into an actual licensed Nintendo game. Using Luigi for a party game or family friendly game should not be a problem. I know that they mentioned that rejected some of the Super Mario 64 fan made games already. There is certain facts about Luigi that Nintendo does not want anyone who knows about them to be posted anywhere where everyone can see them. Nintendo also mentioned this also when they got interviewed as well.
I know that Spirit Tracks will not let you proceed in the game if you are playing a pirated copy. Although it might have been made in a family environment, and then submitted to Nintendo like Phantom Hourglass was. I found the proof confirming how Phantom Hourglass was made somewhere on the internet. Goddamn right. I want to play OoT again but the port on Wii U has soooooooooooooo much delay it's hard to play, esp combined with 20fps it just seems so laggy.
Most games effectively double-buffer graphics, due to hardware limitations. They poll input and calculate new game state one frame, then the next frame send that new state to the graphics chip. With emulation you can emulate a frame ahead to get the graphics a frame earlier, removing 16 milliseconds of lag. See RetroArch's input lag compensation.

Thank you for all your hard work. I know it most likely wasn’t an easy task, and at times might’ve been pretty tedious. But Shantae for the switch came out excellent. The passion you and the Way Forward / Limited Run team have, most certainly shows.
I remember having audio issues with shantae on emulators. Other game that gets messed audio on gbc emulators is "wendy: every witch way". I knew you would eventually comment on that.
As Roberto Blake says, creators have to diversify! This is the ultimate diversification for a creator!! I wish I had the skills to do something as awesome as this!!
If you're still locked down, this might be the best opportunity in your life to learn a bit about programming. Try starting with a fantasy computer platform. Those strip away a lot of what makes game programming so intimidating in the first place, and they tend to use real programming langauges that are easier to learn than most, like Lua. Check out the TIC-80, download some sample games, read up on tutorials, and try to make a little bit of something. Even the smallest app that can move a sprite around is an achbievement, and you'll learn a lot.
Games at the end of a console's life are almost always forgotten about with limited sales numbers. It's so great to bring them back to life in a legal way for modern hardware. Helps preserve the legacy of a games series when it's treated with respect.
Pokemon Trading Card Gameboy was made before the Lass trainer card got made. That is why the card is not in the game. The game is also programmed to make itself unusable under certain circumstances, and it is also designed to crash and block any email and password based from being used again on the same emulation hardware, and likely possibly bricking the actual hardware that the game is being played on as well. The game also includes cards that are actually real and were actually made. Super Energy Removal was still a digital exclusive card at the time of its release, but it eventually got made into a real card. I know that I was using the card a lot in the game when I was younger, and wanting to physically hold the card in my hands. Some the Gameboy Color Exclusive cards are actually made and are real as well.
Always make sure your name is known and associated with the work you do regardless where you work at. If there is a wall between you and higher management, it is time to move on and switch teams/jobs, unless you want to be stuck there while your team leader takes all the credit and promotions and all you get is "great work, team, keep it up". Believe it or not, there are teams where team leaders/direct managers are transparent and the "big bosses" (those who can do money decisions) do notice you and your work.
There already is one... Limited Run Games themselves. They have been horrible recently due to defending censorship and treating customers like trash with their customer service hence my other comment about it.
Still waiting on my copy from LRG to arrive, but a HUGE thank you to you for your hard work on this. Having the original Shantae more broadly accessible is a huge deal for game preservation.

Our little MVG is moving up in the world.
Seriously though, 'grats on your first commercial gig. You've earned it.
I'm glad I found this video. Now I get to thank you for your spectacular work on Shantae. As a Shantae fan, thank you very much!
They made the right choice. Your video quality shows that.
Amazing MVG! They truly DID hire the right person. I mean, people can really tell how much effort and care was put into this re-release, especially since you cared so much on making it faithful to the original (as well as adding the bonuses to truly define it as a "definitive edition") I have no nostalgia towards the game, but I will buy it anyway. good conversions like these should be celebrated!

How Shantae's DRM Was Defeated... after everyone supported the developers by buying the game
Seriously though, congratulations! I'm really happy for you!
The best DRM is the one you don't need.
@@Humbird00 The best DRM is the one that's never used.
MVG, I mean it when I say this, but I've been on this site for well over a decade and you are the cream of the cream of the UA-cam crop, all genres considered. Don't ever stop!
Watch AHOY, you won't be disappointed
Whoa, congrats on getting such an awesome gig! I'll definitely check it out! I hope this brings the original Shantae out of obscurity!
So neat to see a channel I’m subscribed to be involved in a series I love so much.
Eagerly awaiting my LRG mega bundle!
Congratulations MVG. Hope it does really well!
You've posted a lot of really interesting content over the years, but this was my favorite. Congrats on helping to save some game history.
You just keep getting cooler MVG
Well done! Thank you for creating this video!
Congrats on your success MVG! Hoping for more to come your way!
Thank you SO MUCH for putting the actual maps in the art section! Nowhere on the internet has that kind of VGMaps-level of map existed for GBC Shantae until now!
Including maps is actually a very clever idea for older games. It actually makes the art gallery useful on top of looking nice.
@@Humbird00 It really is, especially since that kind of map is literally nowhere else for some reason. Now there is!
I don't often watch a 13 minute ad, but this was dope.
Thank you for all your hard work. I know it most likely wasn’t an easy task, and at times might’ve been pretty tedious. But Shantae for the switch came out excellent.
The passion you and the Way Forward / Limited Run team have, most certainly shows.
Congrats MVG. Your channel is dope, keep up the great work. Just purchased the game to support you.
Always enjoyed working with you mate glad your seeking your passion.
I remember having audio issues with shantae on emulators. Other game that gets messed audio on gbc emulators is "wendy: every witch way". I knew you would eventually comment on that.
"Ah, rats!"
Thanks so much for this MVG. Very very well done and a treat for Shantae fans
@@ohnoitschris @ohnoitschris I can program, just not games. I'm in the midst of designing a cloud based creator management platform.
THIS IS AMAZING! Congrats on the launch
Congratulations! That’s super cool and emulation is so crucial for preserving games. Wonderful job!
Your work is really inspiring and motivating for a newbie developer like me. Thanks for making such cool stuff MVG.
I love Shantae. You writing the code for the switch emulation is badass !! Congratulations!
Games at the end of a console's life are almost always forgotten about with limited sales numbers. It's so great to bring them back to life in a legal way for modern hardware. Helps preserve the legacy of a games series when it's treated with respect.
Good thing you said *almost* always and not just always, there are exceptions
That's awesome! Just purchased it on the Nintendo eShop.
Well done and congrats! Hopefully we'll see many more to come!
As Karl Jobst would say, YOU ABSOLUTE LEGEND.
From Homebrew To Full On Production. Youve Certainly Come From A Long Way Man, Congrats!
This sort of thing should happen more often. The homebrew community is full of passionate talent.
@@Humbird00 true.
Oh, snap, hearing from an ORIGINAL DEVELOPER! Congrats on making that game, dude, and happy birthday from the other day!
Congratulations MVG, great work!
This could lead to some really interesting opportunities. How incredibly cool.
10 years from now .... "Shantae, mistakes were made."

I love how much thought you put into extras and UI! I’ve been playing the game on my Switch for a while now. It’s surprisingly challenging, but I wanted to experience Shantae’s first game before I played the more recent titles. It’s really cool that the entire series can be played on the same console!
Man congrats on being involved with your first commercial product. That is so cool after being involved in the homebrew scene for a number of years. Here's to many more commercial projects.
