I really like when you say you are tired or exhausted because that is the reality of a life of self - activity. Others sugar-coat it but it actually is a constant round of tending. prepping. observing. planning etc. I hope you realise how inspirational you are!!!
We blanch before freezing to stop further enzyme action that leads to loss of flavor, color, and texture. How long we blanch depends on the vegetable. Love the freeze dryer for you!
Freeze Dried gardener here. You will love your herbs done in FD plus eggs are a favorite 😍 I got dill, verbena, pineapple sage, nasturtium flowers and lemon balm in now.
I so happy with my FD's I own 3 for personal use so you going be so happy. I picking up a kids play house for a chicken coop 1 step closer to being a Urban Homesteader lol 😆
I'm so excited for you and your new Freeze Dryer. I knew you needed one. I just purchased one myself, but I don't have near the abundance that you have. I just dried some herbs and the difference in the color and taste is so much better than air dried. I can't wait to see what you do with it!
Love the Ollas and love that you're incorporating the broccoli leaves into your meal planning! Mine completely bolted this year and up until I googled it, desprite to not have it all go to waste, I had no idea you could eat the leaves! Tried sautéing them in a stirfry with some olive oil, butter, garlic, salt & pepper and they were delicious! This weekend I'm planning on blanching them, processing them into 'patties' with a burger patty press and freezing them for pre-portioned bricks. This way I can move the bolted broccoli out, replant for a fall harvest, and still get some greens out of the garden.
The water source to keep the birds from going after your fruit makes sense. I leave some fruit for the birds. Fruit that, in other places, people cover because the birds take them all. And the birds don't bother! I think it's because of the multitude of wild fruit around here.
I love your videos! When I was looking into freezing produce I was like “blanching” ?? But I just knew you’d have a video on it 💖 How long do the frozen veggies normally last in the freezer?
Do you rotate your garden occupants? I put garlic in whichever beds just had beans, when I plant in the fall. That way I am not growing the same warm weather plants in the same gardens. I did the same thing with my garlic....just put the cloves all into 1 bowl and only planted the biggest 74 cloves!! Only the Elephant Garlic was kept separate.

I noticed your eggs on the counter container. Do you leave them like that for a period of time before refrigerating? If so how long can I keep my eggs un refrigerated??

Busy busy. Everything's coming in nice

Blanching also helps to stop plant tissue from maturing further. Many blessings everyone.

We were wondering when to harvest our broccoli. Thanks
Sadly, it's midwinter for me so I've only got some stunted peas and lots of leafy greens that really just want to be left alone right now 😆
It will be growing season again for you before you know it!
You could grow indoors. Lol. Just a thought. Many blessings everyone, everywhere.
I hand wash my dishes too and ignore my poor dishwasher 😂 We've lived in our home for around ten years and I've never used it once.

Actually, blanching is to help kill the enzymes that deteriorate the vegetables in the freezer

Just wondering.. you have a bench in you chicken pen? 🤔🤔❤❤❤❤

As long as they are unwashed I leave them for 3 weeks. After that ill put them in the fridge, or if I have a large amount to keep longer
For furture reference, you can give the busted raw egg to your kitty too.
❤
