Fantastic content guys. I've been studying poker for years on multiple sites, yet I still find this podcast to be some of the best short and concise coaching videos out there. Not to mention that it's free! Keep up the great work.
Absolute gold fellas, great video, I've been loving the series. I'm an Upswing lab member and still took the time to help hammer home some great points from Mike and Gary.
This series has helped me understand concepts that I failed to grasp over 10 years of playing poker up til now Big thanks to you both, Gary especially is a great educator on this stuff
(Repost) so had 3 Nicky P courses open, podcast on the tv and gto wizard on the phone checking flop sizes on different boards for 2 hours. 15 mins into this video I find out - one third the pot or check Good job I love the game
What is the 'tt' notation in the hand examples? In the medium-frequency section, there's a hand eg "984tt". I think it's a flush draw, does it mean two-tone or something?
These are great gto examples. It's just kind of frustrating to implement though. I literally just watched a crush live poker video about a 2-5-10 game, much higher than me i'm only 1-3, where the UTG +1 villain RFI'd with 96s and the SB Hero called with TT. Granted the hero should've 3-bet or fold from SB vs UTG +1. Anywho, the villain hit a full house. I guess I don't know how you play when even players at that level could have anything lol. I don't know if you guys look at comments this old, but could you do a video on how you implement the % amount of betting you recommend for a type of board texture? For instance, do you look at your watch to randomize a %75 c-bet or do you just think about what maybe the bottom %25 of your range is and not bet those? Same thing for a %20 c-bet. Do you c-bet %20 if your randomization method hits, or do you just only c-bet with AA,KK, QQ etc?
Hi - great content presented simply. Just a quick one for Single Broadway boards, is there never any b150? Thinking like BTN v BB AJ4r would see at least some overbetting? Might be that you've just not included here because it's a small % mix. Thanks!
@12:30 So I ran into a spot very similar to this in a local card room tournament last night. 35 players, I'm 9 handed on my table. blinds are 200/400, no BB antes. Effective stack is mine, ~13k Action folded around to me, and I look at Ad, Jd in the Cutoff. I raise to 1900, approx. 4.8x sizing. Button folds, SB calls the 1700. BB folds. Flops comes: 3d, 4h, 9d. A low frequency board for most of my range, except that I'm on the front door nut flush draw, and backdoor wheel draw. 4K in the pot. SB checks to me, I lead out for 1500, approx 37-38% pot. SB check-raises to 3200. Basically a min-click. At this point, I've got 9.6k back, and my SPR is about 0.7. Given my equity (about 34%), I just ship it in. My opponent tanks for about 15 seconds, then calls, and flips over 9s, 4s, for 2pair. Turn comes: 2h River comes: 10c So I brick out, but I still feel like I played this hand properly. I may have sized too large pre-flop, but as you can well see, there are a LOT of fish in my casino that call off large opens out of position with lots of junk, so I tend to size up a little bit on my preflop opens even when in position, as it's very rare that everyone will fold. But this flop sorta looks a little like your 753 flop example of low frequency c-betting, and my question was, how do nut straight and flush draws alter this frequency? If you're opening with hands like AJs, AQs, AKs, KQs, and you get boards like this that are 4-flushed to your hand, does that alter the frequency with which you should be c-betting? Thanks!
I think your post flop play is fine but you should definitely size down the preflop raise, 2.5-3x is what I start at in tourneys and slowly go down to 2x as stack sizes shrink
Okay normally you guys do a phenomenal job with explaining the "why," but... why the fuck aren't we range betting A62 but we basically are on Q62? I know part of it is that the pair of aces requires less protection than the pair of queens, but I still don't quite get it. Is it because our opponent in the BB has more Aces than Queens? How do we construct the checking range? We check with our weak aces and air? I'm guessing we check a set of aces too, since it needs the least protection? Felt like this part of the video was tragically under-discussed, and it's one of the few times that I left feeling like I didn't actually learn anything (most of the time, I have a way better understanding of the root causes after watching, so thanks so much for that, it's amazing).
What does the "tt" mean after the cards numbers? I've never seen that before and I don't think you discuss what that means in all the videos I have seen done by you guys. Excellent videos, but please explain: "tt" meaning. Thank you.
very nice info guys! question here: in the live games i play i do a lot of iso raising of (sometimes mutiple) limpers. i size up to try to get it 1 or 2 opponents to the flop. in these iso scenarios: can i still use the stragegy of this video or should i adjust as it is not technically B vs BB but still cb IP? obviously i need to cb less against players that defend tighter etc. but as a general guideline...
A lot of the general mechanics apply, but you have to consider how different the opposing range looks. They aren't defending from BB -- they're limping and then calling a raise. Usually that means their range will be more dense with pocket pairs, suited connectors and high card hands compared to a BB defender. Your range will be a bit tighter as well since you are raising over limpers and not open-raising.
SRP 100% disagree against certain types of opponents that play paint and pair with SCs and Axs. They are like the 20/5 or 20/3 really passive. You are getting nothing to fold with this bet on any 2 paint board. They will continue about 75% of the time. You need some type of equity decent equity to bet, take the free card then get paid. Against these guys even a 25% bet with complete air is question. You are better off delay CBing vs these types to get them to fold their GSs OTT. OTT they will bet their TP hands which cuts a lot of their range out when they check. On KQx Like say you havd a FD or SD... betting 1 to win 4 (assuming they call a 1/3rd PSB) because they XC means you automatically make odds OTR. Having a GS betting 1 to win 4 the pot will be 5 OTR you just need to bet 2 to make your equity. The low boards are the same thing. You don't want to bet AJ on 235 or any wheel board because these same guys will chase with AK/AQ. But if you have AK you do want to bet for the same reasons. In FZ they hit this board ~35% of the time. With the 1 card GS they hit almost 60% of the time but that 1 card GS accounts for 25% of the equity... .thus why betting AK for value against a wheel chasing AJ is ok but not the reverse. All this assumes the turn goes XX. This is specifically against an opponent that is QQ-22,AKs-A2s,KQs-KTs,QJs-QTs,JTs,T9s,98s,87s,76s,65s,54s,AKo-ATo,KQo-KTo,QJo-QTo,JTo

Is it possible you guys could explain this a little better maybe show the cards and go through step by step for us newbs?
It’s (advanced) and there’s plenty (beginner) videos out there. 🤷♂️
Solid gold content. Concise.

Yes, I believe it means "two-tone", as in, flush draw.

what to do on high connect board like akq or kqj, kqt, etc ?
And can we over bet on drawy flops like 863,842,T75 etc ?

TT is just a short way of typing 1010
So if you have pocket tens you just write TT, Same as JJ ect
Also could be two tone so 579tt means 5h7h9s
Two tone
Ex.
2 cards of diamonds
1 card of spade
What stakes is this for?
very nice info guys!

@upswingpoker cool thanks for replying :)
love yoir content 1
So if i raise utg and the bb calls. The flop is 456 rainbow. Even if i flop a set or straight i need to check because they have the nut advantage?
Yes, the opponent's nut advantage means they're more likely to bet for value or as a bluff, but if they fold outright it's a disaster.
