That FM demo is super great.
top 10 anime crossovers
ok guys now yall have to collab
8:25 is your favorite part I guess, Adam :p BASS
:O
Can you both please collab on CC Music?
Amazing FM synthesis explanation! I will refer people to this!
Tim Peterson YEAH he should put it in the title though
The FM synth I made with string and paper sheets isn't working. What am I doing wrong? I drew the waveforms perfectly with a marker.
Mr. Mizu you need to clap on the screen first mate , works fine for me
Jason and the robots - common beginners mistake. Did you plug in the first paper sheet?
Make sure that the type of string you're using shows up in your paper sheet's list compatible hardware. You should be able to access the menu by fliping over the paper.
Peter Danner still doesnt work :\
Maybe i bought some bad markers?
@@bluebaconjake405 You might need to contact the manufacturer, they could still be under warranty...
You explain this kind of stuff so well and on point, I hope you'll continue doing educational videos like this!
Waga Yuuri I know I was watching some old videos of his. I was literally just thinking that.
I thought the same thing. Me need moar! One of his best
Thanks for finally describing FM to me in a way that really makes sense!
I've studied music tech for ages, even my degree course didn't really give me as good an explanation.
then you have to be stupid like shit.... my god......it is really no rocket science, really it isn't!
Puls Welle kjkk
not as much as you suck the fun out of the moment.
Puls Welle kjkk, nice troll account. Go back to trolling school.
Very nice FM summary
tru
More videos like "What the F is FM Synthesis?" PLEASE!!!!
definitely! I love to see how FM synthesis works because it's easier to program if you know what's going on under the hood! :)
Wish it was the title of the gideo🤗🤫
Frequency. ;)
Shows he's actually here to help and loves what he does. He could be like every other youtuber and create 1 video per topic to maximize profits, but he ain't worried about all that. Simply does what he loves and the money comes with it.
Babyboodle gooogle
I've been watching your videos for months now, and I have personally learned a lot from every single one I have watched. Be it motivation, creativity, and probably most importantly, Expansion of my love for music in general. Keep it up, Andrew! Thank you for everything that you do.
I agree with man.
Yes
I love how you explained how the waves interact with each other!!!!
Love it dude, especially your explanation of FM synthesis. I've watched so many other videos on the subject and this is the only one that actually helped me understand it better, and it took such a minimal amount of time. Thank you!!!
Awesomeness and sweetness
good stuff, right?!
Cuckness and musness
haaaay cuckoooo loveU!
oh - looks who's here :D
Cuckoo, your channel never comes up on my sidebar or recommended videos despite me subbed to you, and watching almost every single one of your vids. I wonder if you've been YT restricted for some reason. They are doing this to a lot of people intentionally restricting some creators and pushing others. Notyou'ret your doing badly mind you.
loved the format Andrew ! always hyped for a new video of you, so imagine when it's 15 minutes long... keep up the amazing work, you are my favorite youtuber and you have just confirmed it !
Great explanation at the beginning, kinda reminded me of kids' TV from back in the day (in a good way!) Liking the longer format!
That Mariokart section was the real standout for me, I'd love to have a small but powerful synth that I can take around with me and record ideas straight onto when inspiration strikes, and that part of the vid showed you can do that very successfully! Nice one Andrew!
This really makes sense! It's truly hard to find a channel that has this much educational material but extremely to the point and in a way that really makes sense. Not to mention the incredible aesthetics and visuals in all of your videos. This is why you are inspiring many people each day, including me. And Andrew, if you see this, I hope that this comment has brightened your day as much and you brighten mine each time you upload.
JOSH SAINT hmm... Kurzgesagt....
Andrew is the best!!
Your melody direction as of late has been so amazing honestly. an exploration of euphoric dismay. truly beautiful dude.
ALSO! the videos man ~ the quality/directing has been ridiculously top notch, visually intriguing, and the music has just been so fun. love the whooole ordeal.
hope life is great & you aren't sacrificing happiness for all of the effort thats put into these videos :)
Please make an album based on FM synthesis!!! These sounds are all so dope.
Just search UA-cam for outdated, cheesy 90s music.
deroden in the 90’s it was mostly ROMplers, not FM.
Wow, I needed this video years ago! I still found it helpful and practical. Best FM explanation on UA-cam.
Wow, this was really helpful and informative. I always had trouble understanding how waveforms worked until this video. Thank you as always for making such great content
I love your dramatic lighting in pretty much every video (: keep it fresh!
I've listened to electronic music for years and only now do I finally understand how you do the voodoo that you do when you do the electronic voodoo.
Thank you, Andrew. Seriously.
A very good and balanced view of the Digitone - it got past the "first couple of days" format of a few other demos, and i thought your assessment at the end was really fair. Thanks for the measured, informative demo!
I really appreciate your stuff, man! Keep doing high quality videos like this!
Your videos are really clever, from the explanations, editing, lighting and even the clothes you wear... you really know your stuff and make it enjoyable to watch.
Andrewww I love your videos! So unique keep it up
Thanks for the explanation of FM synthesis. I think I'm going to go play with my dx9 again
Man I've been staring at FM maps since playing with my dad's friends DX-7 in 1984. Thanks for the visual demo, I really get it now. The interfaces on FM7 and Operator always confused me but now they make total sense. Great work as usual.
I love your music! and your videos! :)
This is the best explanation of fm I’ve heard. I instantly understand fm now. Cheers man. Some crazy fm techno is going to happen when I finally get mine:)
Very cool. I really like how you explained it. I had a brief understanding of FM synthesis before, but now I completely get how it really works.
Your stuff really keeps getting better. Great video!
Have you ever considered doing a sound design course? you really know what youre talking about and your method of explanation is so easy to grasp and useful. Ive been trying to understand fm for about a year and a half and the first 3 minutes of your video far surpasses everything ive learned to date. Id pay to learn from you is basically my point
He made a sampling course if you want
"The only installment".
Don't get any ideas, AH.
I'm probably not alone in saying that I'd like to see a L-O-T more How To and technical videos from you.
You've got a gift for explaining things well.
this guy is a muppet
Wow, I think this is so far your best video of the year and considering you already make good videos...
Love your videos Andrew! You're so clear & precise, I learn a lot from your channel. Thank you for your hard work!
Really loved the explanations and the visuals! Keep up the amazing work :)
I understood what FMing stuff sounds like, but this is one of the best FM synthesis tutorials I've ever seen. Wish I could have seen this when I was first using it.
Andrew you've always been a great musician but now your video production skills are getting super awesome too. I just hope one day I'll create as quality content for my channel too
Fantastic video, & FM synthesis breakdown. All around nailed it! :) :)
Ended up buying a digitone because of this. SO HAPPY! Thank you for the demo, this is my first synthesizer and I love learning on it.
So good. You’re the king of reviewers.
This is a way above average tutorial. You are a fine human being and the world is lucky to have you sharing your knowledge!
Great work, your explanation is great way to understand the core basics easily.
The FM explanation was really helpful and well-done! Great vid as always ^^
I learned so much today! I clicked on this video thinking it was about to be a simple review. Nah... I got a semesters worth of info in 15min. Thanks Andrew!
Can I just applaud how visually pleasing you make these videos?! The colored papers, the textures and colors on the neon lit part....it's just so nice to watch.
I love watching these, even if I have little intention of getting most of this gear - e.g. - I can do this stuff on iPad or laptop now rather than trying to fix the DX-100 (4 operator FM synth) I got back in '88. (well, in as much as I tinker around once in a while after work, if you can call it playing)
Andrew's videos are just so much fun to watch.
Cool, Drew. I really like the sounds with the Digitone!
Major props!
I have learned more about Fm synthesis in those few minutes then the articles I’ve read for hours, you did Elektron a huge solid!
My goodness Andrew, these companies must be shouting praises to Apollo when you use their equipment to make your magic Andrew sounds. You are the ultimate wielder of these digital instruments! The hallmark of any genius is they make it look easy.
I must level up before I can wield one :-)
Goes back to bangin on Casio aimlessly...
I've been using FM synthesis for like 5 years but this is the greatest explanation I've ever seen
So I need this in my life this is everything I've ever wanted
I wouldn't expect anything less from Andrew, but this is my favorite demo of the Digitakt I've seen (and I'm pretty sure I've watched them all). Thanks man!
Digitone. Digitakt is a drum sampler.
Hey Andrew! Really love your videos!! Really unique and you inspire me! Can't wait to one-day also get into synth music!!!!
Wow. Bringing back "the more you know." Hell yeah
11:43 *YO I NEED THIS AS A FULL SONG ASAP*
Yeah same
+++ I NEED THIS TOO :DDD THIS IS DOPE!!!! (send me a flac plz ;D)
Great Video!!!! And also, agree with endesga! that song is sick!! I hope you finish it, I would buy it!
Yes
@@SuperTheDarthvader50 Getting indietronica vibes
Brilliant stuff Andrew, many thanks. Please keep the tutorials coming on this sequencer and arp functions.
Hi Andrew, I really love watching your shows. You have so much enthusiasm. I always look forward to seeing what you come up with. Thank you and your team for making these videos. I have been working with the Digitakt and trying to learn the work flow. It is very different from the normal workflow I have been using over the years. My next synth may be the Digitone or the Prophet X. Still deciding. Keep up the great work.
This kicks modular's ass in convenience, ease of use, and patch recall, just for starters.
I've been cutting my teeth on the Korg Volca FM, so to see a bunch of abstract ideas being visualized like this is helpful. I formally petition for more what the f is fm.
Amazing video! I love the synth videos!!
This is beautiful and I’m always excited about concise, human explanations of technical concepts.
Excuse me while I put on this space pyjamas while showcasing the synth. Legend!
You think it would be about the great explanation of FM or the honest explanation of the Digitone's limitations, but I too was... hold the phone, space onesie!
you do good things to my ears
Loved the visual for explaining FM synth!
That was the easy explanation of FM synthesis I was looking for. Thanks Andrew!
At 11:25 I nearly went off at work. That beat is ILL! The gritty sound really carries some energy to that song.
MrPs103 i need to know what genre stuff like that is called
@@dylanbrackett7810 ive heard similar songs in synthstep.
awesome. very educational
Great job teaching this concept - you made is so straightforward and easy to understand. Thank you!
You did do a beautiful job explaining FM. Bravo!
you are my inspiration!!!!!!!
same he is amazing
Can we get a compilation of the various 10 second bangers you use as intros?
That educational section was excellent! I am finally beginning to understand what the F FM is :) I would absolutely love to see more content like that in the future! Thanks so much, Andrew!
Great great great explanation of FM and nice demonstration of the Digitone, which shows off lots of features and how it can be used in different genres without being overwhelming. Love this style of video!
at 3:32 a string moved when you toutched the "modulator"
1:27 "Lemme grab another patch cable" lol so cute
Very nice and colorful and simple explanation of FM synthesis. Clear and informative review of the Digitone! Thanks!
Fun stuff as always Andrew. Really cool FM tutorial for beginners. Great lesson there. Loved the visuals used to help that as well. :D
Re : FM synthesis explanation: You are now ready for your HAM radio license exam.
I liked his background music.. Giving his spotify channel a try
Absolutely loved how you mentioned not knowing how the clap was made, then describing it to us as you found out! And the tracks you built are super inspiring. Appreciate your art.
Andrew, very clear explanation of FM. I've had to explain FM more than a few times and you do it quite well. Also, great concise overview of the Digitone. Elektron makes super clever gear making it a bit hard to demo, this was very well done.
Thats such a good breakdown FM synth that Im pissed I didnt hear years ago. Would have saved a lot of frustration.....
Phew! I was afraid you wouldn't notice the disconnected wire at 2:47.
Excellent tutorial and cool tracks. Thanks!
So good to see more of your creative process!
Stupid question, but have you gone to college for anything music related and or any majors and degrees you have in music?
That looks so cool how did they make that
Your videos are always so pretty! Keep it up man :)
Excelent review and explication of fm synthesis, and beautifull shirt!
"What the F is FM Synthesis" is the greatest FM explanation I've ever seen.
Even my gf is willing to watch it, cause I've never been good in trying to explain FM to her.
pulling the trigger after this video, killer videos as usual :)
Hi Andrew. Great synth demo and great FM explanation! I loved the paper modular. Just so you know, I believe the word "Operator" refers to the combination of oscillator and envelope that modulates that oscillators volume. It got coined by Yamaha in their DX synths as a way of organizing the incredible variety of ways you could patch up an FM synth.
The explanation of FM Synth was awesome. Really appreciate ALL of your video. How the hell you find the time to do amazing music, videos and just life is incredible. Keep up the good work.
5:14 sounds just like hyper light drifter, or maybe even some other stuff by disasterpeace.
Elijah L I'm thinking about a 8 bit/low resolution/indie game. Maybe undertale. But it's definitely not hyper light drifter, since I recognize the song, but never played hyper light.
The beat at 11:15 is amazing, Where can I find the full version of it?
I love this video - but especially because I now feel I "get" the basic concepts of FM synthesis - you're a great teacher. Thank you!
Loved the length of the video, it's really helping to understand the topic :)
Great explanation, I've been working with FM for a time now but never really understood what really is happening with the sounds when I'm twisting some knobs :D
dude, your short explanation on fm rocks
1 in our local parlance, you is handsome)
"... and I just think I could do a better job."
We agree.
Love the way you explain stuff! Keep it up!
