    fun fact you only need one dynamic airroll bind to control both directions for example i have airroll left on trigger and my airoll right on x ps4=Square i can hold that and slightly press the trigger and i can manipulate the non trigger x/square bind for anyone who thinks about switching grate video kevpert👍👍

      @@Kevpert have you tried air roll on right stick? I found that to be a lot more intuitive and played that way for a year (although I switched back to digital DAR eventually). It does require changing around the rest of your button layout since you can't use the face buttons as much though. But you get to keep analog gas/brake on triggers too.

    I just binded my air roll left to both L2 and square and kept air roll right as circle. I didn’t want to mess up my muscle memory too much, so I just double binded air roll left since that’s what I mainly use anyways. I really like this set up.

    One thing that I realized after starting this training (I couldn't get ARL/ARR on the triggers because it completely broke my ability to dribble) with the slalom is that it forces you to get back to basics. I can keep myself in the air and go places with ARL as is but when you regularly force a stop on the rolling I immediately black out and can't get back into a no-air-roll aerial. Great training, thanks!

    Found another way to practice air roll(If you jave it bound to triggers) recently:
    Go into your favorite rings map and then choose the direction that you want to learn first
    Now start going through the map while spinning as slowly as needed and slowly ramp it up as you get used to the constantly changing orientations
    It's a bit odd but seems to help.
    Quick question, can you think of any negative aspects with doing this? Ex: bad muscle memory type things?

    Air Roll and Powerslide: L1
    Boost: R1
    Jump: Square
    ARL / ARR: X / O
    Camera: Triangle
    Been practising fat thumb for a couple of years now, best 'back to basics' i ever did. i kinda evolved into current set up, but i've enjoyed having the ARL and ARR on buttons right next to each other, (as opposed to placing jump on X, where you have the freedom to squeeze either directional button plus jump out in a split second) because i can fat thumb between either button by now at any point instantly. i tend to be ARL prime, as it's next to the jump, but having both buttons available is an absolute blessing. Was Air Roll button only for years, was a mindfuck learning ARR/L, but 100% worth it.
    Kevpert has been an absolute rock for years, taught me so much, so good to see him back again. We must have a similar philosophy, there's no rush for me where i wanna go either in this game. i am, however, unashamedly terrible at it, but i don't care, i just love to learn, to surprise myself from one week to the next with some improvement or other. Playing is much more fun if you're not stressed and sweaty about winning all the time, really, the love of playing is what's kept me here for... nine... years... and i'm still trying to master the basics.... a whole lifetimes fun from one game... sweet...

    I changed to trigger about 4 days ago for ARL and it's messed me up, even normal aerials feel weird which is strange as all I did was move my ARL from square to LT/LS.
    DAR TIPS - For my ARL peeps, you want to move your stick anticlockwise when combining movements, for ARR you'll move your stick clockwise.
    I found that learning DAR required me to spend a lot of time focusing on car control, once I knew how to aerial normal, backwards, left (side) and right (side) of my car, it made it easier for me to grasp DAR. I originally did this on the pillars map and then I discovered kevperts' old video for elite car control, where he used slolams map to do the same thing.
    FOR CONSOLE USERS - who are learning DAR, this is what I would suggest they do.
    1. Figure 8 - Fly normal x 3 without crashing.
    2. Figure 8 - Fly backwards x 3 without crashing.
    3. Figure 8 - Fly Right (side) x 3 without crashing.
    4. Figure 8 - Fly Left (side) x 3 without crashng.
    5. Figure 8 - No Air Roll x 3 without crash.
    First do all 5 without ball cam, then do them with ball cam.
    First time doing this, I suggest feathering your boost as much as possible (roughly 0.5 seconds) at a time, the idea is to move around the pillars slowly, as you get comfortable with the controls, increase your boost hold time to about 1s and continue increasing it until you can hold it as close to indefinitely as you can get.
    Once you are comfortable doing all that we then jump to DAR. Steps 1 - 5 teach you the basic inputs for DAR, however this is static whereas DAR is dynamic as its constantly changing.
    6. Figure 8 - ARL or ARR.
    You're basically doing what kevpert shows you at 2:32 except you don't have the luxury of low gravity but this is why you spent time training steps 1 - 5 as you'll know the inputs you just have to learn how to chain them together.

    An Xbox One Elite Controller is a large investment, but the reason I'll never go back to anything else is because it has FOUR paddles on the back. That means you can bind all the face buttons (A, X, B, Y) to the back of your controller and have both thumbs on the thumbsticks and all eight fingers on a dedicated button/trigger at all times.
    The analogue control options are the triggers and the joysticks, so I have brake and accelerate on the triggers, steering (yaw) and pitch control on the left thumbstick, and air roll on the right analogue stick.
    Then I have everything else on the six binary buttons (jump, boost, powerslide, ball cam, camera pan left/right).
    All the controls that benefit from being analogue, I have on analogue inputs. All the rest are always accessible with my dedicated finger resting on the button.
    IMO, these are the most optimal controls. They eliminate the drawbacks and sacrifices necessary in other control schemes.
    If it's still unclear what I'm saying, these are my specific controls:
    Steering, pitch, and air roll are controlled by my thumbs on the analogue sticks.
    Jump and boost are controlled by my index fingers on the bumpers.
    Accelerate and brake are controlled by my middle fingers on the triggers.
    Powerslide and ball cam are controlled by my ring fingers on the top back paddles.
    Camera pan left and right is controlled by my pinky fingers on the lower back paddles.

      @Kevpert  Рік тому

      Have you had issues with the bumpers breaking? I remember that used to be the case with Xbox Elites. Maybe the newer models are a little more solid.

Also i cant half flip straight while boostinf on both sides cause my air roll right is on square and i cant boost while holding it argghh changing controls feels like such a pain when your not that young 😅

      @Choice... 7 місяців тому

      that difference in speed is so small it doesnt really matter, but if you do want to eliminate it entirely you can just hold whatever your throttle is and it cancels it out. Boosting also cancels it out.
      I've done a lot of practice with dynamic DAR and if anything the subtle control you get with your airroll will actually see you getting to the ball more efficiently
      there's also a pretty niche use for the slowing down, when I'm chaining rapid resets slowing down slightly in the air and getting resets while essentially holding reverse means that the ball stays in front of me for more consistent follow ups
      hope that helps

    In the video kevpert says that it’s best to bind air roll left and right on both paddles. When using the Sony paddles does rocket league register it as left and right paddles or does it just use the button to whatever button you mapped to the paddle, because that’s how it works on my Xbox elite controller.

    • @Kevpert

    hey Kev! long time no check-in. gotta fix that
    i bought a controller called the gamersir t4 kaleid. has 2 back buttons, is overclockable to 1000hz, and has magnetic hall effect thumbsticks. normal potentiometer thumbsticks have contact patches that wear down over time, the magnets don’t wear down = no stick drift. the back buttons aren’t remappable to keyboard buttons or anything so you have to make them, like, R3 and the options button or something like that. or a d-pad button and forgo some quick chat, or only have save replay bound to a keyboard key or something. it’s incredible for only $40 tho (PC and switch only). some very exciting third party controllers coming down the line
    last i was playing, months and months ago, DAR seemed a new concept and everyone seemed to hate zen and he was banned. i missed his whole meteoric rise. the game is entirely, entirely different now. i’m grinding ranked again and am hard stuck 1600. it’s wild. love having the perspective of everything that changes though, what a game this is
    curious on DAR. you know that if you turn off gravity, and use throttle/brake, your car will move slightly forward or backward right? like there’s some benefit to throttle while flying, maybe. never would have assumed to have DAR on triggers. tempted to try that, but also tempted for DAR on right stick… you know how important camera movement is though. you miss out on *something* no matter what, huh? wild

    Alright one thing I always fail to understand is the use of free/normal air roll, if using directional. And that's a genuine thing, like why would you use a different air roll method to archive certain things that you also can do with directional air roll? Every single thing you can do with free air roll you can do better with air roll left+right. I get why you would use it if you only have bound air roll left or right, but if you have both? Makes literally 0 sense to me.
    Edit: Additionally just finished the video and came back to my comment, saw the air dribble part and I have my own methodology about practice and what not, but I am always looking for different and new ways to improve so I can enhance my approach. The gravity portion regarding air dribble had me intrigued.
    Changing your game speed for practice purposes clearly messes with the perception of the game speed after your initial training for roughly 2-3 games, I personally don't use bakkes mod, as I see little to no use for me personally, so I can't confirm and have to ask, does low gravity practice affect your gameplay/sense the same way changing game speed does, for a period of time after your routine?

    • @Kevpert
      @Kevpert  Рік тому

      Low gravity means the physics stay pretty similar. It's just the ball and car are a little lighter. That's all.
      Slowmo changes the physics and in my experience wasn't helpful.
      I just use normal air roll + powerslide only on the ground, for recoveries. That's literally the only time I use it. I find that superior to using ARL + powerslide, because I like to hold the button while jumping.

    • @sandi9965
      @sandi9965 Рік тому

      @@Kevpert wow wasn't expecting an awnser awesome, but unfortunately it didn't quite awnser my question: does practice with low gravity change how the game "feels" for a period after the initial training routine? (Maybe I could have specified previous).
      That aside for a second, isn't it actually the other way around, changing game speed keeps the game physics exactly the same and only affects, well the speed... while changing the gravity actually changes the physics on how the ball and car gets affected by gravity...
      And thanks for your time much appreciated 😁👍

Even seeing that you use circle to boost and X to jump is uncomfortable to me and all my friends, if anything it would be square to boost as thumb can rest over those 2 buttons easier than X and circle, but even that is awkward to me. If you want to use 2 of the 4 main buttons for jump/boost I find it best to use X as boost, and square as jump, this makes it super easy to fast aerial.
    tl;dr - using X + circle for jump/boost is awkward. I prefer X + square. And I prefer having jump on square and boost on X - makes for easier fast aerials.
