I only get steelbooks for the movies that are really, really, really good.

Putting first pressing on a metal case is the most gimmicky false collectibility bull crap I can think of. The reason a first pressing is relevant in vinyl is because the stampers are sharper creating a better sound. The more it's used the duller the stamp gets, thus lowering the sound quality gradually. It's not just some fake rarity thing. Usually.

First pressing on a steelbook does matter for sound quality too though... you'll often hear a mildly excited grunt from a collector compared to a dull short groan if it isn't a first pressing. 😉
Yeah, can't see how it matters at all on a practical level, but on a psychological level... I mean, first edition books are often worth a hell of a lot more than later editions, even when there's no meaningful difference between editions, even the cover art can be the same, so I guess it does prove that an item's worth is often in the mind of the collector.

This is a really cool feature. I remember Stephanie (Movie Chatter) talking about it in a video last year on her channel and I immediately had to check all my steelbooks.
I don't know about this. I know that sometimes the "first pressing" can have issues, bugs or things. Sometimes the second pressing addresses these. While it's neat, I am not sure I would seek out the first pressing.
Having said that, I checked and none of my Steelbooks have it.
This would make more sense to be important on a vinyl 1st,2nd, 3rd press but i don’t believe it’s that important for a steelbook per say.

I discovered this when I bought the JW steelbook box set. The big book one. All three have that first pressing lettering on them.

Very cool! I've been eyeballing some Turbo Kid steelbooks and they went so far as embossing numbers on some custom runs. I would definitely like to see more numbered with custom art.

Criterion has been doing that for years. It's stated right on the back.
It's humorous what people will spend more money on when you think about it. The same exact product physically and aesthetically, but they want some text stamped on the bottom of it and will throw away the money to get it. More power to them I guess.
I know it’s actually sad when you actually think about it 😬. Ever since this whole “physical media is superior to digital or streaming media” I started collecting and the movies I’ve collected so far is 2 movies I love very much and recently bought Dune 2021 steelbook the orange cover from eBay, that was expensive but thank God I got it. So that’s my collection 3 movies 😁. Hopefully I don’t become one of those collectors that have 100s if not thousands of movies and tv shows and half of it I haven’t opened it or even watched it haha

Same here I missed out on it and only was able to get the Walmart blu-ray steelbook version. So will wait for a resupply or purchase the 4k when it goes on sale and just put it in the steelbook I do have.
The director of the John Wick series, has said that he'll be releasing a director's cut of JW4, so if it comes out on steelbook, you might want to look at that instead.

If you're explicitly looking for the first pressing, just why? Stop being weird. The re releases are the exact same art work.
But who cares? It's a digital media. 1s and 0s. The first pressing is exactly identical to the thousandth. Just copying files over and over. Unlike most analog media, which degrades (not counting LaserDisc).
Perhaps you could get a life?
