Just coming back here after over a decade? to say that I still think about this rendition constantly. I hope Neil knows about this because it’s sublime.
Daisy, I know you won't get this but I'll just out it out there. You were VERY brave to cover such a simply perfect song. I genuinely didn't think it could be done justice but you've done brilliantly. Well done. Now I'm off to explore some more of your stuff.
To be honest I didn't expect this video to be so good since I am a big fan of Neil Hannon but you are amazingly talented! Felt every note and love the way you use loops. I am still amazed!
Absolutely stunning. Found your vid randomly on my recommendations page, I'm a massive fan of DC and this is one of my favourite songs of his. Not many can cover Neil's songs and match the original but you have created your own unique version - love the vocal loops & harmonies, inspiring! You would think a song as epic & orchestral as the original wouldn't work scaled down to piano & voice but you've recreated it amazingly. All the best with your music x
I've only just listened to this and didn't expect to like it as its not a song I particularly like (although I'm a huge TDC fan!), and as others have said, Divine Comedy covers are hard to do well! I find this song tends to become a touch monotonous when Neil Hannon performs it solo on piano, but unexpectedly, I find this version really beautiful, and love the vocal loop which adds interest and atmosphere throughout, especially towards the end. I also like the slower speed and the overall gentler, more flowing approach. Lovely! :-)
No matter how I try I just can't get him out of my mind And I when I sleep I visualize him I saw him in the pub I met him later at the nightclub A mutual friend introduced us We talked about the noise And how its hard to hear your own voice Above the beat and the sub-bass We talked and talked for hours We talked in the back of our friend's car As we all went back to his place On our friend's settee He told me that he really liked me And I said, "Cool, the feeling's mutual" We played old 45's We said it's like the soundtrack to our lives And I said, "True, it's not unusual" Then privately we danced We couldn't seem to keep our balance A drunken haze had come between us We sank down to the floor And we sang a song that I can't sing anymore And then we kissed and fell unconscious I woke up the next day, all alone but for a headache I stumbled out to find the bathroom But all I found was him, wrapped around another lover No longer then is she our mutual friend
my cover of Rihanna's Umbrella is now available to listen to on myspace / daisychapman. I'll hopefully do a video soon, but take a listen on the myspace page.
the most musically sublime moment of my 63 year life x just when you think she couldn't go any higher she lifts you up again x a deeply religious experience x thank you sooooooooooooooooo much xx
Holy Mother of God. This is absolutely flawless. I was rendered breathless, with tears in my eyes, the way I was when I heard the original for the first time. This is quite possibly the best Divine Comedy cover I've ever heard. It's not an easy thing to do--ESPECIALLY this song, which, if done poorly, can get monotonous. But you nailed it, AND made it your own. Wonderful, Wonderful job.
Walked into a local pub tonight in Troutbeck , and Daisy happened to be playing. Sat down with my girlfriend and Daisy played this song. I couldn’t stop crying.
Giving thought to us all who have experienced similar experiences. Not saying you have, but you have a heart, feeling humanity is just in all in matters of the heart.
Wow! Had no idea what to expect before I listened, but you've done an absolutely beautiful job of this.. This could be as good as the original and I ADORE the original!! :)
my god, she's amazing- girl hurry the fuck up and go on the X- Factor/ the Voice or American Idol, I don't give a fuck where, just go quick and pursue your dream with good money!
I love this cover. I think Neil himself would like this too. I just wish she didn't reverse genders in the song. That would have been even better...for me, at least
I honestly only like the album version of this song when performed by Hannon...but your cover is the exception. Your voice is amazing, thank you for posting this! Might this be available in MP3 form somewhere?
I personally think that this is one of the best songs ever written. I don't know why. :) I don't understand why somebody is so crazy that writes this kind of songs... This is an absolutely great version of this masterpiece. Thank you for posting this.
not implying they guy who typed Jesus Christ! so on. I don't know if the way he used would be seen as inappropriate or not. Just interesting .. as a whole.. in general.
Just coming back here after over a decade? to say that I still think about this rendition constantly. I hope Neil knows about this because it’s sublime.
One of the best songs written in the last 20 years
Yup
This is Definitely The Best Cover Version. Can't Stop Listening!
Daisy, I know you won't get this but I'll just out it out there.

I saw it. I heard it. I thank you 🙂

Faboulus Daisy. Sublime sublime version. Very great singer. Very great sensations. I love you.
Daisy... this is just beautifully sung and played. Great version!
What a voice! and what a version! I love the way you've ended with the beginning. Very clever and appropriate. :)
Merci beaucoup! What do you need? A reference number of the loop station? Not sure, it's a Boss Loop Station if that helps.

She is GORGEOUS
I'm always wary of DC covers since they're my favourite band, but you've really done this song justice. Great stuff!
Stumbled across this by accident, but so glad I did. Daisy, you're a revelation! Off to buy it on iTunes now ;-)
Great version, I often come back to it
Incredible!!! Such a wonderful work of art -- thank you for sharing it with us!
Your version moves me just as much as Neil's. Great job Daisy!
Amazing and haunting song.

You have a very beautiful voice ! and this is a brilliant cover !! Congratulations.
your voice and performance is so beautiful, well done!
It's an emotional song, even more so when the genders are reversed and sung by a woman, and that coming from a bloke.
Lovely!! REally amazing...
Love it❤
Quelle voix sublime
nice , very nice
gorgeous version
Increible, maravilloso!
Magnificent!
Wow

Terrific! You're a great A-R-T-I-S-T! ;)

So bloody gorgeous. Better than the original. I'm in love and want to marry it too! :) x
hey back off .. :)
Very nice
nice cover
Wonderful cover. Heart emojis and stuff.
utterly fine-who is you?
great cover tbh
Love it, great job on it. Fantastic voice and I'm somewhat musically sexist, not usually a big fan of women singers but that was great.
just as haunting as Neil Hanon's original.
not bad, not bad
So much more evocative than Hannon
everyone, everywhere: i don't believe in god and angels
Daisy Chapman: hold my harp
the most musically sublime moment of my 63 year life x just when you think she couldn't go any higher she lifts you up again x a deeply religious experience x thank you sooooooooooooooooo much xx
Sorry so prefer the original...love the way the drums come in. This is too fey for me.
Nope!

Wonderful!
A sublime cover. Love it!

outstanding cover of a remarkable song
I love Divine Comedy and Neil Hannon but this version is sublime!
Hearing the lyrics from a girls perspective changes the song completely. Brilliant cover.
I can't believe it took me 10 years to discover and enjoy this. This is incredible.
this is really special. i love how creatively you reuse the earlier vocals as backing. 10/10
Outstanding cover
i really wanted to hate this....im a massive divine fan.....but you did this song proud! well done!
Wow! Had no idea what to expect before I listened, but you've done an absolutely beautiful job of this.. This could be as good as the original and I ADORE the original!! :)
Thanks everyone for your comments. You can buy my version of this track on iTunes for 79p if you're interested.
Daisy
Pleasantly surprised! i didn't think anyone could have done as good a job as Neil, but i was wrong . Superb cover!
I think this is a wonderful, haunting version of an already superb song. Thank you for this Daisy.
Wow that's just brilliant and a brilliant use of a loop station
my god, she's amazing- girl hurry the fuck up and go on the X- Factor/ the Voice or American Idol, I don't give a fuck where, just go quick and pursue your dream with good money!
No X factor for me...! I'm am on a 4 week European tour earning a living. I don't need no Cowell!
Daisy Chapman and who does?
Initially, Intrigued. ❤ it best rendition by far
I love this cover. I think Neil himself would like this too. I just wish she didn't reverse genders in the song. That would have been even better...for me, at least
I like the gender reverse, made me see it from a woman's perspective.
I don't mind, but the rhyming is messed up at the end. Change lover to something that rhymes with him. It's a great cover though
@@immodestlullabies It's not messed up. The words are the same as in the original in these lines.
"Oooh look you're in a piano chair"
"I know"
Lovely version that Daisy. You should be a professional musician
I honestly only like the album version of this song when performed by Hannon...but your cover is the exception. Your voice is amazing, thank you for posting this!
Might this be available in MP3 form somewhere?
Merci! All CDs can be bought from my myspace or from CDBaby online.
Great cover,i love the loops thing!(and voice)

Magnifica. Stupenda cover...sublime!!!!! Voce meravigliosa. Bravissima Daisy!!!!!
I personally think that this is one of the best songs ever written. I don't know why. :) I don't understand why somebody is so crazy that writes this kind of songs... This is an absolutely great version of this masterpiece. Thank you for posting this.
Magnifique ❤
GENIAL!
Lovely job. Really well sung.
very very very impressive. neil hannon's got competition :)
Such a beautiful rendering, so evocative.
Jesus Christ, this is fantastic!!
Thor, you are right
Buddha, she's amazing
Allah, she's amazing
so on . . . . hmm.. odd how one has been made to seem correct while the others don't fit.. isn't it?
not implying they guy who typed Jesus Christ! so on. I don't know if the way he used would be seen as inappropriate or not. Just interesting .. as a whole.. in general.
your voice is so beautiful.
