My favorite part of the hobby is day dreaming about painting the figures and playing games with them as I stare at them sitting on the shelf collecting dust...
There's nothing quite as satisfying or rewarding as a reset if your hobby space after the explosive activity of frantic painting! Personally, I have the best intentions to keep the place clean when I start painting... But after 4hrs, you'd be lucky to find me under the pile of sprues, paint pots and coffee cups 😅 . These vids are such a godsend during this isolation, your perspective and calming voice is always a pleasure to listen to 😁
I have so many inter-related hobbies, from slot cars to large scale RC aircraft. As a scratchbuilder and designer I can assert that organization is the key... Kudos.
Man, this video made me realize how important finding a room with the potential to become a dedicated hobby space is gonna be when/if I ever get around to looking for a dream home. It must be so satisfying to walk into when it's clean and set up for a game like that at the end.
I currently live in a condo and have been house searching. Priorities are an area to hobby in, a large garage for a hobby workshop, and a sunroom for my cats.
@@GeneJordan Sounds like you have your priorities in order man. Hope you find what you're looking for and still have ample money left over for hobbying.
Oy! I felt like a peeping tom!! :) I had a space like this for over 12 years and did a lot of creation. Painted a lot of mini's and gamed occasionally. Hobby's are the best way to spend extra time, I am so addicted to creating. Wood Ships, paper models, plastic, resin, wood, metal & paint, its all great! Thanks for sharing and bringing back some of my best memories!
The excitement of possibility, blocked by the drudgery of the work, paid off by the delivery of the final product. And knowing I'm not alone in this process. Much love and respect.
Yup, this is how our hobby works. Which part? All parts. You are doing it right. No one can say you are not a gamer! It's not just a hobby, it's a way of life.
Your area is way better than mine. For now my kitchen table is my workshop. No room for eating just painting. When I get the upstairs the way I want it I'll have an entire room as a hobby room and one for gaming hopefully. You have a nice hobby space. I'm jealous 👍
My favourite part of the hobby is being inspired be fellow gamers like you :) Inspired to paint better, play better and organize better. Thank you for your videos.
Inspiring! Your work space is definitely better organized and tidier than my current one, although I too am using "quarantine time" ( I was already at home full time recovering from the first of two hip replacement surgeries so not really completely quarantine time) to clean and reorganize work, play and living space for myself, my wife and my daughter. Unfortunately, I have a LOT of hobby stuff with now very little space. I used to have large spaces where I had much more room to store and organize my miniatures, boxes of miniatures, terrain materials, paints, airbrushes an so on. Because I scratch build almost all of my own terrain pieces I have a HUGE amount of scrap cardboard, paper, plastic, and so on that I need to organize and decide what to use and keep and what to throw out as we only have a 600' sq apartment now when I used to have the full basement of a 1300' sq home before where I could have my homemade 4' x 8' gaming tables set up all the time. Now I have the same folding tables that you have and they must remain folded up unless I have them in use. My projects have been relegated to a folding TV table since we moved here. I also need to throw away most of my paints since in transitioning to this abode I have had them in storage for a couple of years and most are nonviable (I miss the Citadel MEGA Paint Sets). As for what I love most about the hobby... EVERYTHING! I love going to look at the shiny new boxes online and then in store, pining over what to get next, bringing it home looking inside and deciding what I want to do with the miniatures -paint them as described or customize them- which then lands them back in the box collecting dust on a shelf as I ponder paint schemes and compose background fluff as I cannot build without an inspired story for the miniatures I build, convert and paint. So, I have a lot of unfinished work but I plan to get to it as my wife is encouraging me to start my own channel here and begin a business around my lifelong hobby interest. I love to play the games as well, ALL of them: Warhammer Fantasy Battles, Warhammer 40,000, Battlefleet Gothic, Warhammer Epic Armageddon, Adeptus Titanicus, Blood Bowl, Warhammer Underworlds, Warhammer Warbands, KILL TEAM, Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game, Battletech, Heavy Gear, OGRE, Car Wars, Warmachine ... well you get the point. I am also a HUGE RPG fan so D&D, Traveller, Shadowrun, and others. I have a question for you though: What is your favourite game to play, Warhammer AoS, Warhammer 40K, or something else?
I am officially jealous of your work area! It’s so big. It looks amazing. My favourite part of the hobby, is getting new paints! Crazy I know! But there is something about a new colour of paint. You start to imagine how to use it. And I love watching my paint collection grow! Thanks for sharing your space with us. Still jealous! 😁👍
Super relaxing video. Love to get a better look at your hobby space. Nice to know I am not the only one who has far too many paints 😂😂 And who likes new stuff far too much
My or mine favorite part of four zero k. Is comprehending in my own interpretation how or what makes sense specifically what each unit of a faction means, the concept behind it, as far as I interpret the meaning to be. Once I have a unmistakable comprehend of intended purpose then I go about collecting, your card, and the fun is over I have yet to conduct or play a match of four zero k in my own interpretation. But I know piercing together pieces with my interpreted meaning is my favorite part hands down.
Best part of the hobby for me hands down is painting. It's the part that defines the miniatures character and personality and fully brings it to life. Collecting is fun too, having the display of fully painted miniatures either on a shelf or on the table top. Building is my absolute least favorite part. For me painting is relaxing, whereas building them is almost borderline stressful. Did I get every mold line filed off, are the holes in the bolter muzzles centered, where did that piece go that I saved for this particular character. Your paint collection is awe inspiring. I am a little jealous of the amount of space and paint you have. Thank you for the video.
My favorite part is assembly and kitbashing. Unfortunately painting comes after that and I never feel I'm a good enough painter to do my kitbashing proper justice. Your videos, particularly narration over b-roll, are fantastic! Thanks for the content.
My entire work area is no bigger than your desk under the window. There I do all of my minis painting, electronics work and radio-control model designing and building. So, yeah, I have to keep constantly tidy and organised which is a good thing anyway.
You have your stuff very well ordered and organized. 👍 Some of the time when I work on models I'm on the couch or l like to work on them laying down. I aspire to have a hobby space like yours. I think kitbashing and converting is my favorite part of the modeling aspect of the hobby.
My favourite part of the hobby is converting and kitbashing or just building in general. I have always loved building things. After that it's painting and building lists based on fluff.
As many of us get stuck at home due to the global pandemic, this video is an inspiration and a timely reminder to do some housekeeping. It's amazing how we can still a "no time" excuse even when stuck at home, though .... :) Those good old Detolf shelves are a hobbyist's best friend, but I find with miniatures there's way too much wasted space. Perhaps if you could get some stands, or some mini display cases/racks/shelves and stack them up in there? Awesome job - and that's a monstrous amount of paint you have to organise!
So organized, I love it. Your paints, models in cabinets in order, awesome! Sorry I'm a little OCD, I got to have everything just where they need to be lol.
How cool.... I never realized how much fun I had in the "imagining how cool this model in a box is going to be" part of the hobby! Personally, I love coming up with my own ways to assembly/pose the models, and my own color schemes. The ability to express yourself in this hobby is only 2nd to doing actual art, which can also be intimidating and frustrating. Coming up with fun lists based on a new rule book is also a blast! GREAT SPACE! You are a skilled organizer
I definitely like looking at news boxes and then shamefully have them sit longer than expected in my hobby area. Kickstarter is particularly bad for that kind of habit. Love your work station!
At the end of a huge building phase I love taking time to reset my workspace, as it's always worse for wear at that stage! I'd say building is my favourite part of the hobby, shopping second and painting a distant third. I also love sorting my paints by the colour spectrum, like a saddo! 😂
Yayy..... Another upload, I'll never get bored of your calming voice. I swear you could read a user manual for an electric screwdriver and it would sound awesome.
I know a bit late finding your vids, but my main purpose is usually to get the minis to table, but I don't want ugly ones so I end up doing more work on them lol; reorganizing my area now after a recent move and a downsize due to retirement which is awesome :)
Not going to lie, your work space area, collection of paints and "boxes of shame" make me a little jealous. But a clean and organized area really can help bring calm to one's self. Nice work.
That was an excellent video, it was really enjoyable watching the space transform, I very much approve of the amount of terrain on the table, too often I see 40k tables with a wood or two on and thats that, makes me sad, yours looked really good and organic!
I just bought a new house. I don't have a work area yet, stuffs still packed up. I do have a mini house in the back yard, I'm thinking that's where all my painting and gaming is going to happen. Priorities though, I'm afraid my hobby is going to be on hold for awhile. But I still have Sword 'n' Steele.
I just bought some shelves for my office in my house I moved into in april. Those shelves allowed me to unpack my board game collection and my MTG and will be able to also hold mine and my wifes backlog of minis once I get some new bins for that as the bins we had them stored in were too big for the shelf but the minis when removed from the bins fit on the shelf fine when better organized. I also have some floating shelves to install on other parts of the office wall that can hold some things. It makes my office much nicer to work in concidering it's not primarily a hobby space its primarly my work from home space and secondarily a hobby space.
I'd love to have a dedicated hobby space but I'm confined to the basics in a cupboard for now. Until I get a bigger place of course. I'm jealous of your hobby space.
I honestly don't think you have enough paints. But seriously you've inspired me to tidy up my hobby space. There's stuff everywhere, and it's currently feeling quite claustrophobic. Besides I don't have much better to do considering I can't leave my house thanks to the UK currently being on lock down.
Another great episode of Quarantainment. Looks like your list of supporters is growing. Glad to see it. Looks like a great hobby space. Keep up the great work
I need to do the same thing since my area is now also my work from home space. Thankfully it will be raining all weekend on the east coast, so I won't feel bad about cleaning up.
It’s crazy how many paints some people have. I probably have about 20 little things of paint and 12 cans of spray paint. The stuff she paints must look awesome!
I'll definitely be re-organizing my painting space as I am moving house next week. I currently have a cutting mat in front of my desktop monitor (on a stand that the keyboard sits under) and small plastic draws containing my paints. So after the move, my computer will be on a separate table to the paint space and then will start the tedious process of transferring into dropper bottles. Thanks for that video btw :)
My work area looks something akin to a room hit by a bomb and an OCD freak off their meds. LOL but my favorite parts is putting it on the board with or watching my Sons go a round. I live 50+ miles from the closest game store so window shopping is pretty much all online. My paint jobs are to "battle ready"+ a little personality because I have never seen a "dress right dress" uniform in combat.
I’m sure you’re not alone sorting through everything their hobby space. I’m doing the same and it’s a daunting task and I have but a fraction of what you have. So you’ve encouraged at lest this old man to get going and sort it out to take his mind off what’s going on at present. Take care and stay healthy from a subscriber here in Ottawa.
I actually found you'd made this at the tail end of a day cleaning my living room/game area up! Thanks for the continued inspiration to finish it tomorrow.
It is very strange to me, since I am not a ‘neat’ person, but I think that what I enjoy most may be organising my paints. Over here, the ‘space’ is a largish coffee table and a small rolling cart of trays. Everything has to go away when we need a coffee table or space to play a game, but in between I can sit on the floor like a gnome and paint.
My painting and gaming area is variable. I use the conservatory which is nice spring through to autumn. It isn't large, but playing more skirmish games or battles in 6mm it is sufficient. While my 25mm armies await their time patiently.
Great Job! My hobby space is a disaster area, you have ins[ired me to redo mine though. My Favorite parts of the hobby, in order, Collecting, Assembling, Painting abd, Playing.
It's quite huge! and lot of paints! Holy Molly! Mine takes more time to organize, and it's five time smaller (Well, cats "helps" a lot in "des-organizing" it) Great vídeo, as always!
I picked this idea up from someone on UA-cam a while back, can't remember where, but he suggested the 3 S: Sweep, Sort, Standardize. You spend 15 minutes before a sesh; making a video, painting, assembling, etc., Cleaning the area, sorting your materials, and setting the area up for better efficiency. Something to think about next time.
Spring cleaning by wonder steel ! My work area entirely different.. I don’t have loads of paint 🎨 s and it’s more compact . I never paint by my computer 👨💻. As I airbrush brush at times ,also not into tiny war figures or war games . You’re channel is very interesting though as you have good tips .
think doing the first build is probably my favorite, then deciding if I'm just going to detail it out a little bit or if I'm going to go for a full repaint. what i build are MG Gundam figures so it's a bit different but in many ways the same, discovery of the model, assembly, painting and enjoying the finished work. only have a smallish card table to work on at current and have to put all of my tools and parts away at the end of the day otherwise the cats get into things and I don't want them to eat something that might hurt them.
You knocked it out. Wish I had your energy.
I'm 66 and just trying the hobby out and sometimes seem like a lot to figure out.
But I'm gonna try. 👍😀
My favorite part of the hobby is day dreaming about painting the figures and playing games with them as I stare at them sitting on the shelf collecting dust...
oh you assembled them, you are my new hero
That. Is a LOT of paint!!! Lol! Good on your for organizing your space. Nothing more satisfying than feeling "in control" of your work space!
Your videos cheer me up everyday! I'm sure I'm not alone in that.
There's nothing quite as satisfying or rewarding as a reset if your hobby space after the explosive activity of frantic painting! My favorite part was the bitz box! 📦 I love having a bitz box good for kitbashed home brew minis!

Practical with loads of room. Nice setup 👍
You have a great painting station! I have learned so much about painting models from your videos.
I’m actually on a two-week leave from work, but I haven’t gotten in any hobby at all. Thanks for reminding me to get back to it!
Haha wow so much paint! Awesome collection.
Just subscribed. You are way more fortunate than I am. I only get a small part of the dinner table!
You have a,lovely large space and nicely organized now!
I have been hoping for a long time you'd give us a guided tour of your glass display cases so really looking forward to that.
All that paint... It's beautiful
So I don't have a work area, but yours is very nice.

my favorite part of hobby is painting and second to that is staring at them in the store thinking about painting

I've been working on the same thing today. I'm hoping the renewed organization will kickstart my crappy motivation lately.
I'd love to have a dedicated hobby space but I'm confined to the basics in a cupboard for now. Until I get a bigger place of course. I'm jealous of your hobby space.
very organised, lots of storage space and lovely rack =)
You crammed a whole day into just under 9 minutes. You're a time wizard!
I envy your cleaned up space. Mine is so stuffed full of boxes and figures and bits of terrain materials I can hardly swing a paintbrush
I honestly don't think you have enough paints.

I was going to go and sort all my stuff out, but watching you being SO busy made me pretty tired out. I WILL try tomorrow though!
All hobby areas must look like this. We of the Clutterati have so decreed.
Great looking battle mat and scenery
God I need to do this. Sadly I don’t have as much space so I have to keep a squared away station...but I’m lazy so yeah lol.
I'll definitely be re-organizing my painting space as I am moving house next week. Good job, looks really nice. Mine needs work. Thanks for the inspiration.
Your workshop is better stocked than most hobby stores...
That is a great space for gaming/painting...so jealous :)
A wall rack for all your paints is in order. A customer built job that maximize your space. I bet you could build it too.
Wow look at all those paints! Im just starting out painting miniatures, since Im home a lot... One day Ill have a hobby room too probably, heh.

This was great ty for sharing this. Your area is amazing. Makes me a little jealous haha. Someday maybe. Lol
Nice place, a dream for painters/wargamers!
Great Job! My hobby space is a disaster area, you have ins[ired me to redo mine though. My Favorite parts of the hobby, in order, Collecting, Assembling, Painting abd, Playing.
It's quite huge! and lot of paints! Holy Molly! Mine takes more time to organize, and it's five time smaller (Well, cats "helps" a lot in "des-organizing" it)
Great vídeo, as always!
and thanks for showing it!
