P47D Vs HE111 (Il-2 Sturmovik Bodenplatte)

I still think the 50s arent as devastating as they should be. For example that plane had some bombs in it, what happens when bombs get hit by hundreds of 50 cal bullets? Probably an explosion sometimes right? You can see the plane took a beating but no engine damage on the first pass even though it looked like it got hit in the engine etc etc etc.

Yep, I totally agree; the American .50's in Il-2 seem to be modeled to more or less have the same hitting power that puny .303s had in real life or history. In reality, a stream of four closely parallel .50s would be shearing off wings and fuselage parts - *not to mention what eight .50s could do at convergence* - typically 300 to 400 meters out in space!!!

About 15 years ago I listened to a P-47 pilot interview; he said the 8 MG's were absolutely devastating ...so yeah it seems like they are underpowered ingame. I do modding for Silent Hunter 3/4 and it is unfortunate how often weapons are overpowered or underpowered by professional developers - ofter a lot of damage value changes need to be made by community members to improve realism!
