In a recent datamine of the closed alpha test build, 20 brand new characters were leaked. Let's go over them, and I'll give my thoughts on the direction the roster is heading.

Ghost Rider would be cool
The reason why Rivals already has a larger potential roster than most other hero shooters is simply because they can fully skip the concept phase
Overwatch, Valorant, Apex, etc. have to come up with the characters from the ground up whereas the Rivals team can just look in the comics for a character that has the powers they are looking for and think of how to make that work in gameplay
They are adapting rather than fully creating, which i think will end up being one of its strengths
As for characters I'd like to see, Nightcrawler has always been my favorite! (plus that would add more X-Men rep)
I loved Overwatch and played the crap out of it the first couple years. As long as they don't go overboard and turn into absolute scumbags with the microtransactions like they did with Overwatch 2, and price them fairly, I see potential in this game and look forward to checking it out with my gaming buds.
Well, all of these characters actually went through concept art, but yes, it was a lot shorter for them bc they don't need to be created

I am just glad there are not a million spider-verse characters when most of them could just be skins for peter and it gives other marvel characters a chance at being in the game.
I respect that! Although I’d love to see Miles get his own slot. He’s definitely different enough to warrant it.
@@NosyBoy the only problem I see is he would be to similar to peter.Are you not going to have miles be able to shoot webs or even web swing I understand his ability’s can be different cause of venom powers but what about passive ability’s like the spider-sense what can you do to make miles move different and feel different from Pete. I just feel he works much better as a skin and leaves a spot for someone a more unique and different play style.
I feel like the camo and electro power would go a long way in separating him, but I see your point.

@@Sean-nr3ts I hope not because almost all them would play the same as Peter for example what are they going to do make spider-man 2099 a tank that makes no sense they would make him a dps because that fits his character so why not make him a skin for peter it save a spot for some one else more unique.

An obscure Marvel character I wanna see in this game is Elsa Bloodstone. In the comics, she uses firearms and magical items against several monsters like vampires. It'd be dope if these items were incorporated into her moveset.
Dude she's a great shout. I didn't know who she was until MUA3, but she's pretty awesome.

This game has an overwhelming amount of heroes compared to villains. Really hope they add more villains.

@@ChristopherOrtega115 Genuinely don't know how they'd implement Thanos without being too busted or too weak. Does he have the gauntlet? Which stones if not all of them? Some stones are absurdly powerful. If he has no gauntlet then he is just raw strength.

Ult - Wipe out the whole team with a snap (only used once per round)
It's called marvel rivals, we need more villains. I would love to play with a classic Sentinel , Mr sinister, carnage and hob goblin, and Dr octopus

@@captainK84 For Nimrod, Tank could be an interesting role, especially if he was designed not so much around taking space but denying it. Balancing would be needed, but I imagine him having a field he could throw down an any enemies in it deal less dmg. For his ultimate tho it'd be cool if he summoned an old school huge sentinel.
Juggernaut tho, no matter what ya do with him it's gotta be mandatory that he has a charge ability that kills players if he can pin em into a wall. lol.
Personally tho, I'm SUPER curious how Wolverine will play...because ya know...he like can't be killed.
I really want them to add the SILVER SURFER, I feel like he never gets spotlighted! His abilities/mobility would be perfect for this game

We haven't even gotten the alpha started yet, and this clearly is hoping to be a long stay in the gaming world. It's more of when not if for someone as popular as Deadpool.
On that same note I'm kinda shocked that Jeff The Landshark is his own character instead of being a part of Gwenpool's kit or something. Seeing some of this game's picks I absolutely expected/hoped that Gwenpool would show up in some form.

@@Makogaming27 they're couting the datamined characters, I assume. So, Storm, Magneto, Magik, and then Wolverine and Psylocke are in the leak, but not officially confirmed or announced (truthfully, though, I can't imagine they don't bring in Wolverine eventually)
M.O.D.O.K. would be unironically hype in a game like this. Though we definitely need Cyclops before him.

Ok let’s be a little fair, Overwatch makes their own characters, Marvel literally has a pool of a million characters ready to go at any point. So it’s easy for a marvel game to easily have 50 playable characters, and have all 50 characters feel unique. Vs a game like overwatch, a couple of characters may feel abundant
To a degree, yeah, but it's implementation into the game that usually takes the longest, so such a large cast right out the gate is impressive
eh, designing and excecuting a character is the really hard part. Anyone with basic creativity can come up w charas. Its not like the reason it takes 9 months for a chara to come out is because theyre rubbing their chins the whole time what country the character should come from.
And even more characters if you consider that many can just be a skin with a new voice actor and voice lines. Like Hawkeye. Clint can be the hero and Kate can be a Mythic skin revoiced with the same kit. US Agent can be a Cap skin. Agent 13 and Maria Hill can be one or the other. Hulk could have a Red Hulk and an Abomination revoiced skin. Human Torch and Firestar. Magneto could get a Polaris skin. The list goes on. Changing Team-Ups on Mythic skins that change who the character is meant to be would make sense, also...maybe sometimes adding a unique power or just keep the original effects, but change who triggers it. Regardless, in this idea, they would keep the primary kits. It's a good way to add lots of characters without needing unique kits if the power sets are really similar.
Hoping either Carnage gets in or Venom gets a Carnage cosmetic that changes his voice lines and animations

If they had to put both Peni and Peter Parker, I think they kinda gotta put carnage in the game. Idk that's just me.

Carnage and Venom are different enough to be their own characters!
Eh. Carnage is meant to be a lot skinnier, and Venom is to be bulky. They are vastly different characters, not only in builds but in moveset. Carnage is faster, more precise, and lethal. Also has longer range with a few projectiles, tendrils, and ofc, able to form weapons out of his body.
Venom is kinda just, really strong and also some of Spider-Man's powers.
The fact that Galacta is the poster girl/announcer in this game is enough for me to expect that they can put whoever and whatever they want in here as a playable character.
Me personally, I want Shuma-Gorath to be in here since he's my fave Marvel character to use in MvC games, but my other picks are Electro, Doc Octopus, Blackheart, Ghost Rider, Dormammu, Deadpool, the X-Men...
Hell, I'll even take M.O.D.O.K. lol

I hope they rep some characters that haven't appeared much in recent media or haven't had great appearances. From the top of my head Spyke/Marrow, Gamora, Ghost Rider, Nightcrawler, Gambit, Omega Red, Silver Surfer, Sentry, Spider-Woman, Iceman, Shadowcat, Angel, Mr. Immortal, Silver Sable, Bishop, Black Bolt, Black Knight, X-23, Ka-Zar, Mr. Sinister, Mandarin, Enchantress, Vulcan, Bullseye, Legion, Silver Samurai, Titania, Morbius, Crimson Dynamo, Hyperion
Bullseye is a must
Morbius needs a “Its morbin time” line for the memes.
Sentry AND hyperion would be a little repetitive but for the most part I agree.
Also omega red is a menace in the comics 😅
I’d love to see some Marvel Horror representation. Get some characters like Man-Thing who can be a tanky debuffer, or Werewolf by night as a high agility rushdown character. Ghost Rider would be sick also

Some more underrated ones:
Vision, Sentry, Nova, Jubilee, Cosmo, Nico Minoru, Daken
Some Villains:
Thanos, Lady Deathstrike, Doctor Doom, Green Goblin, Red Skull, Doctor Octopus, Dormammu, Sabertooth, Juggernaut, Mr Sinister, Silver Samurai

That’s the thing with marvel is that there’s so many characters that this game could choose. I think an underrated team of characters is the Winter Guard with Red guardian, crimson dynamo, dark star, and Ursa Major.

Really hoping we get to see Wiccan and Hulkling in the game! They would be perfect for the game with the existence of Team-Up abilities and I think Wiccan could play like a support version of Wanda 🙏

I want to add some comments. I no longer feel like Mystique would fit, since Loki kinda has the shapeshift ult. I still love her tho and would be excited if she makes the cut some day.
My top requests would be Gambit, Nightcrawler, Polaris, and Daredevil. Polaris and Gambit would make for some cool strategists. Also, the presence of villains in the roster is really lacking so we need more of those as well!

The Spot could unironically go hard. Can see him being a support character, and using Dr. Strange's portal gimmick to a greater degree. Main problem is after seeing gameplay, that would cause a LOT of lag.

I think Pixie could make for an interesting support character, she can teleport groups of characters so it would be interesting to see play out (although it might break the game but we already have 2 characters who can teleport)

I actually think her chances of being added are fair considering she was in Marvel Super War (Also developed by NetEase)
Blink bishop and Polaris would be cool to but I hope Rachel or hope finally end up in a game also azazel vs nightcrawler would go hard there's other mutants I want like toad the guy who can adapt to matter or elements he was in first class along with that guy who can fly and scream hyper sonic sounds quicksilver etc and imagine apocalypse releases with four horsemen skins for gambit angel storm etc also destiny would be sick

Let me play the game first and I’ll get right on it. Once I actually have experience with how the game works, I feel like I’ll have a better idea of who I want.
Being able to run as a Thor and beta ray bill combo would be so cool, beta ray hasn’t really been in any games so finally seeing him in a big game would be awesome

Really hope for characters like shadowcat , can have her going through walls as an escape or under the floor. Also characters such as Emma frost , nightcrawler teleporting everywhere, Nova , Ant man would be hilarious as well , the great thing that excites me about the characters is that the creativity for abilities is already there so now they just have to see how far they can translate it into a competitive team focus structure. Super hero concept is so ideal it’s crazy how it’s taken this far to get one

If they add Gambit, they should give him the ability to charge and launch fragments of the breakable terrain as projectiles.
Green Goblin flies around and throws grenades, he feels like a really natural fit for the game.
Doctor Doom and Deadpool are probably my top desires off this list, both would be very cool to play as.
In terms of more obscure characters, I think Blink's teleportation and portal abilities would make for a really dynamic support character.
We need GwenPool in the game aswell with her mutant powers somehow. Sister Grimm would be welcomed also I loved reading the Runaways as a kid. Reptil from Super hero squad would be cool too.
Need Deadpool, Ant Man, Vision, Falcon, Red Hulk, Wasp, Ghost Rider, Odin, Heimdall, War Machine, Jean Gray etc
And today with jeff the landshark reveal(as if it wasn't already basically confirmed) this confirms that the planning stages for the leaked characters are at least real and close to being ready.
Things I need to see on this game in the future:
Moon knight having an attack that is "Random bullshit go go".
Human torch being like playing ironman at x2 speed while also a glasscannon.
Venom being able to grapple and toss people around like hulk does.
Thor being able to do trickshots with the hammer.
I really want Wiccan. Even if hes just a skin for Wanda that makes her red magic blue i wouldn't complain

Honestly, i want gwenpool. She could have a "teleport", her many guns and could also have a sombra style hack move thanks to Cecil. Of course she has to have some fun 4th wall breaking moves, taunts, and potentially outfits if they do that.
I’d love for a Spider-Gwen or Gwenpool. Her pink and white costumes go so dang hard.
I hope Nightcrawler makes his way into the game, high mobility, squishy, DPS with his swords would be awesome
I really hope Blade, Moon Knight, Gambit, Daredevil and Wolverine are revealed soon. I really want Blade though because an enhanced, long-lived, katana wielding vampire with a super healing factor lol that would be perfect for this type of game, plus he's got his own game coming out soon

@r4yv1 Not 100% confirmed yet. Very, very likely but I think it is important fans voice who they want otherwise they could get booted for someone else. My picks are less likely to get booted but you never know lol stranger things have happened

If they add another Spider Person I hope ots Jessica Drew. She isnt like Peter AT ALL outside of wall crawling. She can fly/Glide, shoot Venom Blasts(original user) AND has pheremones that make characters fall for her which can easily be reworked into some form of damage debuff or to a greater extent a forn of enemy control in offline matches
I'd love to see newer characters get time to shine in pop culture. Wicken and Speed, Kamala Khan Ms. Marvel. Scarlet Scarab, Agent Venom, Moon Girl, Hulkling, Miles Morales Spiderman America Chavez, Iron Heart, Kate Bishop come to mind
Agent anti venom would be more likely, some difference from venom. But imagine that, Spider-Man with guns

came back because they have added Venom, Adam Warlock, Jeff, and Thor and I wanted to see the leak list again to see if these four were on here already and so far they have been spot on, but I don't doubt they could add others for what I'm assuming is the based roster for the official release, hoping though that Doom will be one of the first characters added after the characters on this list are

I think it goes without saying I want to see more X-Men and X-Men adjacents are due for an early update. Cyclops, Deadpool and Nightcrawler feel like they just gotta be here but I'd also love to see Toad, Quicksilver or something super out there like Mojo or Spiral
That being said I'd really like to see more non-gaurdians of the galaxy cosmic characters! Adam Warlock is a step in the right direction but Quasar or Nova would also be great or Captain Universe could make for a very unique support hero, being able to bestow the enigma force on other characters and whatnot.

I like it when they include more characters not as popular as others like Cloak and Dagger but still are as good. I also really hope that Emma Frost becomes a character she is my favorite X men.

The alpha runs from the 10th to the 19th, but there’s no word on the release date yet. I think it probably depends on the reception of the alpha.

I really want to see kid kaiju, and he would be a tank where he rides on the shoulder of one of his kaijus from the comics (smaller in size of course) and each ability could be another one of his kaijus assisting

The three I desperately want to play are Johnny Blaze, Doom, and Juggernaut. But as for some dark horse picks I would love to see Penance, Msyterio, or taskmaster.
They shoulda had the danger room as a training mode, or even a mode for you and a team to push through. I’ll be dying if Rivals does more story mode stuff than OW 2 lol but we’ll see
I think they should pick based on potential unique move-set. An example would be Kitty pryde or even Wiccan (they can do so much more than make him a scarlet witch clone) and speed… a weaker speedster could be really wild
Villians feel like the main area that's lacking, like you have Hela, Loki, Magneto, two of these verging on antihero, then for antiheros you have Punisher, Namor?

Like the Rooster, I think I most look forward to Iron Fist acutally. Blade, Wintersoldier are nice too. But wonder who are healers and tanks of those shown heroes, since I played those roles quite often in the alpha.

He can be a great support. Saving your teammate by taking him out of the battle field and transporting him to a safer area. Nice choice!! Rogue wouldn't be bad either. Taking everyone's abilities away so all they can do is run away ! Haha

I think my most wanted characters are Colossus as tank, and Nova and Nightcrawler as dps.
I would like to see Black Bolt as a hero, and would love to see Taskmaster, Kingpin, and Crimson Dynamo representing the villains. M.O.D.O.K could also be super cool here too!
All branches… idk about that. It’s def the tippy tip of the iceberg but I get why. Hope this one sticks around. Tough thing about starting w top tier characters is that the reveals become lackluster after the main teams and villains are ratioed for gameplay. It makes weaker characters able to hold their own against top tier just bc of how they were rolled out. There should be roster of street level characters that can be played, killed and then switched or replaced with another to balance the ratio but keep the power levels equal

personally i think we could get really obscure with characters that would shine in a game like this like reptil, elixir, thena plus a few personal favorites like vision, silver surfer, ikaris
Bullseye, Nimrod, Taskmaster, Armor, Wolfsbane are all characters I would love to see
