Got my Flashpoint X100 today & the thing that stood out to me is the sub-flash port because the box mentioned that it will be more accessories now I want attachments like the ad 200 pro .
Howdy! Want to start off by saying I really enjoy your channel, and your straightforward, sensible approach to so many of these photography “talking points” and one finds on social media. Keep up the great work. One thing about using RT4M… like the other person said, using each feature one separate layers is extremely helpful, but also if you apply the edits to separate masks (by just checking that box), you can go in and just clean up all the little missed areas, hairs, and fine tuning… all in a very nondestructive way.
I saw the blurred spot on the face when you were using RT4Me. As a RT4Me user, I've found that sometimes one plug-in will create artifacts on top of corrections made by another plug-in (i.e. Clean Background creates artifacts over Heal). If you use the panel and create layers for each plug-in, you can easily hide/show layers to find the offending plug-in and quickly mask out the bad artifacts.
Yes, you are correct in this, but for me I need a system that can batch for proofs. Unfortunately layers would create twice the work vs a straight batch.
Nice! I noticed this particular model always wears flats. I think that for a future shoot, you should ask her to wear heels. As you know, it makes a huge difference in her presence. Many years ago I did a photo shoot of Sofia Vergara and one of the requirements from her manager was that she could NEVER be photographed without heels. Although she is a stunningly beautiful woman, the manager was right, when she walked around casually without heels on, it was night and day. She lost a little of her magic sauce. Cheers!
I get it and if I was shooting for a client they would make that decision. For these in studio shoots I let the model choose what her or she is going to wear. And personally I think she is doing great in flats - heals just aren’t her.
Thanks again for a wonderful video. Question: I noticed now and in previous videos, you sometimes frame in a way that a hand or fingers are gruesome chopped. Are those just testshots or does it not bother your clients?
I do touchups and minor color correction for here but final crops are not done for UA-cam videos. I have chopped off a finger or two in my day but it’s best not to be gruesome
Allegedly the 50 SL Summilux is discontinued. It feels like a shame, that would be the lens I'd want if I could convince myself to go for an SL. The SL2-s is well regarded for its color and I think that it shows here.
The only time I can think of even wanting more than 20-24MP is if I know I'm going to be shooting wide and cropping in. Most of my sold prints are 8x10 to 12x18, and frankly, 20-30MP is more than enough for that. There are specific cases where more resolution is useful, but outside of that... you're just dealing with bigger files.
@kaskoPhoto yeah, that's why I jumped on the lifetime preorder for Aperty. I am just a hobbyist, and not doing high volume. But I hope Aperty catches up to Evoto soon. If you haven't tried Evoto, you definitely should. The masking accuracy, hair removal, background cleanup, dewrinkle, are just a few things that Aperty is not even close or doesn't offer at all. Anyway, love your channel.
What are your thoughts comparing the new V100 and the Profoto A10? I am primarily a Profoto user, but have been pondering beginning to build out a secondary system. And can the touch screen on the V100 be locked to avoid accidental touches and changes to your settings?
Well definitely 2 different animals for sure. I think TTL on the V100 beats the Profoto by a little but color consistency throughout the available strobe line goes to Profoto. Now Profoto repairs cost as much as one of their used flashes so def buy new. Is it worth buying into the Godox line if you are already invested in Profoto? Probably not.
Hey John, I have a technical question about the V100. I keep checking to see if they have this flash for my Nikon, but I see that Godox only has the Canon and Sony versions currently. How are you using this flash on the Fuji camera?
I was using it on Sony and Leica. Remember that the remote (the X3) is the only thing that needs to be matched to the camera when using it off-camera. It alone controls the TTL off camera. So you can use any version of the flash with any system if you have the correct camera remote. The Nikon version and others should be released soon.
Yes. Off camera units can be any brand designation. If attached to the camera hotshoe, triggers and flashes need to be correct brand to have full functionality.
Just had a look at retouch for me after your use of it...well...have to say their pricing is hidden really really deep, and its not clear if its a one time purchase or a subscription based product. 1,500 retouches are USD90 per month...so its a subscription. However the plugins are expensive USD124 perpetual licences. Then you have other subscription packs. I never thought anyone could make the Adobe Photographer pack bundle of Photoshop and Lightroom (on TWO computers as well!!!) look INCREDIBLY CHEAP! But they did it. Then there is On1 Portrait AI. USD53 forever!!!! Yikes!
Yes, most cameras use the same hardware these days- but the sensor is nothing without the processing. Each camera company developed their own and this is where the differences come in.
@kaskoPhoto true but test has shown that cameras like the Leica SL3 and Sony A7RV are very comparable in image quality and most other areas being they use the same technology. Leica SL3 has better dynamic range at a lower iso and shoots faster in some instances at 15fps but goes down to 4fps where the A7RV maintains a higher speed. The biggest difference is the price, the performance is the same. Especially where it matters most which is image quality.
The flash seems to be working fine. Just a comment about the crazy megapixel count of the new cameras. I have been shooting film for over 54 years and digital for nearly 25 yeats, and I don't care what anyone says, but 24 MP is more than enough for any task in hand. No photo editor of the glossiest fashion magazine would give a flying F..I If the photo was shot with a D700 or the latest 80NO Sony. Photographers can not ever compensate for lack of technique, skill and creativity by rushing to but all these expensive a d totally unnecessary gizmo ridden imaging computers called cameras. Good on you to use a decent camera for the shoot. As a footnote and with apology to all, cropping my ass.

That will be interesting. Can’t imagine what they will put out but excited for the possibilities

I agree 100% on the layers for each process, but as this is only for proofing, I want the best batch processor. Deliverables are a different thing.

Fantastic vid, great tips. 🙏🏻
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you
Aperty seems to be quite good. Not doing much portraits, so no need yet :) thanks to Bruna for a video I watched full length :D :D
I was really worried this was way too long - but she helps for sure.
@@kaskoPhoto hehe
Great video, John. The case for a V100 is building stronger and stronger for me 😂. I am still using LR Classic and ON1 for my retouching
I love On1 for editing - adding some flare.
Thanks for sharing.
You’re welcome as always.
Use EVOTO and tell us. Great video.
I will do that

I do love the color on it. Very easy post processing

Totally agree - 24mp is a great sweet spot and just enough. In the cases where you need more for a client it’s cheaper to rent most of the time.
Have you tried Evoto AI? I have Aperty but I think Evoto is much better right now.
It just may be better but the pay per image model isn’t for me. I shoot a lot and paying .07 an image wouldn’t be cost effective for me.

@@malmedia Evoto is great at also retouching body blemishes and it's faster than Aperty.

Yes. Off camera units can be any brand designation. If attached to the camera hotshoe, triggers and flashes need to be correct brand to have full functionality.
@@guyyowell8547 that is correct. ✅

Hate the subscription model at a per image level - but the 124 each will even out after 3-4 years compared with other options
EVOTO is way better. I have both and wish I didn't waste 200 on Aperty! Does Leica use Sony sensors? I think they do.
Yes, most cameras use the same hardware these days- but the sensor is nothing without the processing. Each camera company developed their own and this is where the differences come in.

Well I agree with the 24mp being enough in most cases but the editors are where I need the 50+ mp. They are the only ones that will bitch.
@@kaskoPhoto Put the file through Photoshops Super Resolution for her. If she could tell the difference, let me know and I will make an apology.
@@lensman5762 that would be a plan but I am required to deliver raw files to the majority of my clients. They do the post work.
What are your thoughts on using Aperty vs Retouch4me?
They each have their own positives and negatives- but for batch for reasons I pointed out in the video - I’ll be using Aperty
"24mp Is still great" I disagree.
So many do unless they make their living solely with a camera.
In what situations do you feel limited by it, @vitalymaltsev4939?
