I love our back-to-basics sessions. It is where you and I and probably most of us started out. It's great to have some simple, yet quality tackle to make that sort of fishing not only possible, but lots of fun. It's always good to have a fish with you, it was a great day. Also, a big congratulations on reaching 70k subscribers. I admire your persistence and hard work and of course your love of anything fishing. Here's to you Sam 🍻
Tez u are a legend I love it when you are in the episodes. It makes me think about fishing with my dad (except you are a bit better than him haha). Absolute legend.
Great, kind and very supportive Terry. What a Krackin fishing ground, all the yabbie holes just blew me away. The 40cm specimen to end / to start the day was a corka. Cheers Stevo
Hi guys great video! My best mate of 40 years passed away last year sadly, we used to go on fishing trips together all the time. I haven't been since he passed, it's just not the same without ya best mate!! Cherish these moments guys.
great to see you and ya dad out fishing together. do it as often as you can. i lost my dad when i was 23 we used to hunt and fish alot togehter really miss our times together
Love your fishing videos. I, too, am an avid fisherman, though I haven't taken my boat out fishing here in San Diego, California in a few months. We call those yabbies ghost shrimp. We also use those same pumps to get them out as well. I love using artificial lures to catch fish but at times going out to catch bait, whatever it may be, to go fishing is also fun, especially when I take my young son out with me. He's 11 years old now and I've been taking him fishing with me since he was 6 months old. Love your content and keep on making the videos. I may never get to go fishing where you're at personally but I can vicariously fish through you. Thanks again. Fish on!
This is the kind of fishing im getting my young fella into, he got his pb whitting the other day at 42cm horse of a whiting, thanks for the great content mate!
Well Done Phantom, what a bloody great whitting. Best catch I've ever had of whitting was down at Jumpinpin on the tip of South Stradie, with a cast net, 12 legal size in one cast. My pomie Mate was amazed, and then when we went back around the corner and the "Ship Shop Cat" pulled up beside us and I went on board and bought two beers the only thing my Pomie Mate could say was "I love this country". Happy Days and Great memories thanks guys.
Great video guys, it’s good to see the Phantom in back to back videos getting into some good fish! 👌🎣 this has to be one of my favourite styles of fishing, it’s addictive when you get those big ones. Nice work Sammy!
Hi Sammy you should always leave the big nipper on the yabbie as the white nipper waving around attracts better quality fish and helps scare off the undersize pickers in my experience. Yes they can bite you but they aren’t a mud crab
One of the best baits in Cape Town are these sand prawns, caught lots of White Stump and Steenbras on them but they attract many different types of fish species, a great bait. Only available using a prawn pump, other than them their was Blood Worm which were also a great all round bait.
Well done lads. The old camera got abit dirty, nothing like father and son bonding guys love seeing this. Miss my dad. And haven't been in the salt for over a year.
Reminds me an awful lot of Clint from Gold Coast Fishing Charters wading for whiting on unweighted yabbies with 3lb fluro straight through. Really fun technique.
Sammy, we grew up fishing like that, my mum said I prefer your fish all crumbed up and shallow fried. Put some oxo chicken stock in with your bread crumbs, they taste lovely. The bigger whiting prefer fresh blood worms, my record is 48cms and weighed 800 odd grams. Thanks for the video mate, I enjoyed it very much.
We have the exact same prawn in South Africa called Pinkies , we also get a tougher , darker one called mudprawns usually found in the same estuaries ... target fish are mainly Spotted Grunter , Steenbras , Cob ( identical to Mulloway ) our version of Bream and to a lesser extent River Gurnard ( various sub species , identical to your Flathead ) 👍👍
Been working away and not able to watch on a Sunday...west coast of Scotland is not WiFi friendly or even 3/4 g!....so bloody windy it blows the signal east!!... Great watch...even 6 days late!...last week in the wilderness for me...yay!👍🏴
Found your channel and subscribed after watching about halfway.. Looked like too much fun out there. I am in North Carolina, USA, so not up on the species you catch there. Maybe I'll learn a few things! Good on ya, mate.
Nice little session, we chase the whiting down here in South Oz all the time, especially the KG's. I've got a newspaper clipping of a fella who caught the biggest King George whiting in known history, it was a freak fish, you're not gonna believe this, it was 103 cm long. I forget how many kilos it weighed but it's head was bigger than the dudes head who caught it. He caught it off Kangaroo Island here in South Oz, it's the place for absolutely huge KG's, I've never seen bigger whiting anywhere in Australia. btw don't you fella's burley them up, we burley them up here and it works a treat
Gday Sam..your old man must be so proud..intelligent..well mannered...non swearing.."honour thy father and thy mother so thy days may be long on this earth"..you are gonna grow to over a hundred..do you realise how much fishing that is......cheers..jai satchitananda(bushman jake)......
Awesome video Sammy, I always enjoy watching your video and your attitude to fishing. Always learning lots from your tips and tricks. Btw, which part of Gold Coast is this, the water looks so beautiful, me and the boy really want to fish in water this clear and beautiful. Cheers and congrats on 70K
Thanks Sammy. Good to see some good old bread and butter fishing. You have inspired me once again to hit the water in the kayak. Been far and few between with this mixed weather on coast we have had.
Hey mate good tip. Get 2 fingers into the gills and snap the head back. You will instantly kill the fish amd it also bleeds the whitting aswell. AND no fuss getting your hook back.
I just have to say, the coach on the fishing spot, the siv with a pool noodle zip ties have been around for decades, they are very good ideas, but the old one generally are.
Gotta admit that was a nice white. I would use it for bait though. Let you guys have fun catching my bait while I have fun catching a fish worth fighting.
I have loved fishing all my life, grew up around Forster mid north coast, the thing I love and hate about these videos is it has encouraged thousands of people who don't have the same love for the environment that some of us have. They take take take everything, leaving litter and line everywhere, killing small fish needlessly taking photos and selfies sharing spots that were once quiet and clean. The instagram fishers are a serious problem imo. If I could I would tell all rec fisherman to cool it with videos as it's having unintended consequences on our beautiful environment.
That’s definitely one valid point of view. Another would be that it’s helps thousands of people to get outside and enjoy/support the sport which in turn makes us more powerful group that can enforce change and encourage better practices from those who may be taking advantage or not have the best interests of the sport in mind 🍻🍻
We call em Ghost Shrimp here in the states and they are the #1 bait for catching Pompano in the gulf of Mexico. Question: have you ever used miracle thread or string to hold them on the hook better? Those buggers like to come off when you see that school coming down the beach. 🤣
Hey Sammy, love this type of fishing and can't wait to do it with my son once he's a little bit older. Do you have any tips for finding ground where you can pump for yabbies? We're south brisbane so it's a pretty densely populated area. Growing up in Hervey Bay it was just a matter of finding the closest beach which isn't so much the case here
Forgot to comment on last weeks episode but Next time you go mackerel fishing you should try using a snap swivel, it can be really helpful instead of using wire.
Hey mate, yeah we already run a little clip. It helps a little but when they swallow the lot unfortunately still not long enough to prevent a bite off 😩😩
For your info viewers, keep the big nipper attached on but squeeze it broken, that way it looks perfect and the missus or the kids can bait their own hook. More daddy time too - dudes
They call them ghost shrimp in California in the united state. I know a place to get them south of Belmont shores California in a harbor out there in low tide.
I love our back-to-basics sessions.

Ohhhh yeah!!! Enjoy legends 🍻🍻🍻
Awesome to see that kind of shrimp across the globe, we have the same species here in Mexico and we use it to catch snook and mangrove snapper
Great video mate!
We fish the exact same way here in South African estuaries. Sand prawn (yabby) weightless on the flats!
Gotta love a bag limit of those stealthy little silver suckers, nice one fellas.
Lovely mate! Best eating too 🤤🤤🤤

Cool animal!..Has the body of a snook and the head of a bonefish...With the "fighting" tactics of both. Indeed !
Sitting at Brisbane airport waiting to board & this video pops up, excellent content & passed the time nicely! Liked & subbed
Those yabbies are called pink prawns in South Africa and we also use a prawn pump (exactly like yours) to get the prawns. Excellent bait!
Such good bait! Everything eats them 👌👌
Lovely Ep
Good to see flat pack out on the water!
Nice vid Sammy, reminds me of me going with my old boy ,special times cheers

Didn’t think you’ll need a gimbal for whiting fishing! I’ll make sure to bring 1 when I go hunt for whitings 😂.
You don’t, it’s got my bait bucket attached to it 😉
Nothing like catching some quality whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaatin!😎👍👍
Bloody oath! Fighting whiting for the win!
@@SammyHitzkeFishing 👍👍😂
Крутая рыбалка! Все отлично! Интересно было посмотреть👍
I live in the pacific northwest of the U.S. and we call them sand shrimp. Killer bait for salmon and steelhead in our area
Greatest sound in the world

We call that ghost cotton here in Australia
This is basically how I catch trout in rivers with night crawlers
Great video, thanks

Those flatties got gnarly spikes on their gill plates hey and they don't hesitate to put them into use...
They love to put a spike in you for sure! 😬😬
Hey mate, awesome to see such brilliant fish in my local waterways. Just curious, what are the leggings the Phantom is wearing, pretty flash :)
The yabby. Old faithful.
Congrats on 70k man
Cheers mate 🍻🍻

Handy tip ! kick the mud /sand up.
