    Just slept on the LuxeAdapt Firm for the first time last night and I really liked it. It was not life-changing or transformative, but it was very comfortable and I had plenty of support. The mattress really is hard when you lie on it, but then you immediately start sinking and it contours to you perfectly. It's clearly a high quality mattress and so far I'm very happy with my purchase.

    Great review. Would you say the cloud luxe has a higher density base? And if so is there any real reason to go with the newer model? Is Apr+ worth it?
    I currently have the new bed in a box cloud from TP and it's far too firm for me. 6'1 175 lbs side sleeper with shoulder and lower back issues. The new cloud firmness causes discomfort in my shoulders.

    Thank you for the detailed analysis, presented in a way that I can understand. You are the best! I have a 2013 rhapsody that I'm trying to replace. I love it. What is your recommendation for the equivalent feel in their 2018 line? Trying to decide between the Luxe-adapt and the Contour Rhapsody Luxe (the latter of which is I think discontinued).

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  5 років тому +1

      Hi John -- Thanks for your question (and your kind words!). You are correct that the Contour Rhapsody is being phased out. So although it does have a very similar feel to the previous Rhapsody, it will be increasingly hard to find. In terms of the newer options that will have the most similar feel to the 2013 Rhapsody, I would go with the Luxe-Adapt Firm. It may also be helpful to know that there are 4 new Tempur-Breeze models coming out in the next few months as well, 2-3 of which have a pretty similar feel to the Rhapsody IMHO.

      @@catsrgreen I'd recommend checking out our coverage of the Tempur-Breeze line, which you can find here: www.goodbed.com/reviews/tempur-breeze-mattress-preview/
      The Contour-Rhapsody models were pretty firm and IIRC the 12/13 Rhapsody model was too. Assuming that's correct, I think you'll find all of the Breeze models to have a similar feel, at least from a softness and contouring standpoint. We rate them all between Very Firm and Firm on our softness scale, and the Rhapsody model you have would have likely fallen in that same range.

    Hi there, just got the luxeadapt soft and it's been great. We put a waterproof cover over it but I was wondering if it's redundant because there is already a zip off cover on the mattress. Is the included cover waterproof or would you recommend using the additional one we bought. Thanks!

      Hi Matt -- Thanks for your question, and sorry we're just seeing this. The waterproof cover you added is definitely not redundant. IIRC the zip-off Tempur cover is washable (or, at a minimum, spot-cleanable), however it is NOT waterproof. So your mattress id definitely getting additional protection from the cover you added.

      Hi Billy -- Thanks for your question. The new Breeze models will be hitting stores between now and Memorial Day, with the exact arrival date varying by retailer and by region. We will be doing an overview of them that should be ready to publish by the time they are released. If you haven't already, you can subscribe to our UA-cam channel or follow us on Facebook to be notified when it comes out.
      One thing I can tell you in the meantime is that unlike the current Breeze models, the new lineup will not be "Breeze versions" of non-Breeze models -- rather, Breeze will be a separate and distinct line unto itself that does not map back to the ProAdapt or LuxeAdapt models. It will, however, have two tiers: ProBreeze and LuxeBreeze.

    Thanks for the very clear review of the luxe adapt mattresses.
    A quick question comparing the pro-adapt to the luxe-adapt mattress. My BF prefers the feel of the ProAdapt medium and I much prefer the feel of the LuxeAdapt soft mattress (split king). The two mattresses are different heights (11" for the pro-adapt and 12" for the luxe-adapt) and so one of us will need to compromise or have a split king bed of differing heights. How does the luxe-adapt firm compare to the pro-adapt medium? Would you think the pro-adapt medium to be closer in feel to the Luxe-adapt firm or would there be less difference between the pro-adapt soft to the luxe-align soft.
    Thanks!

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  4 роки тому

      Hi Janet. That's a knotty problem!
      We judged the LuxeAdapt Firm to be quite a bit firmer than the ProAdapt Medium.
      Similarly, we thought the ProAdapt Soft was softer than the LuxeAdapt Soft, but the difference was not as great as that between the ProAdapt Medium and the LuxeAdapt Firm. So you might give the ProAdapt Soft a try and see if it will work for you in terms of softness -- then you can do your split king solution with the ProAdapt Medium and the ProAdapt Soft.
      Let us know how it works out!

    I have slept on a Cloud Luxe for a year and had low back pain because it was too soft. The local store is recommending the LuxeAdapt Soft, stating that the extra high density foam layer will offer more support. But this video equates the LuxeAdapt Soft with the Cloud Luxe. Would the new model be the same level of support or better support?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  5 років тому +3

      Hi Grace -- Thanks for your question. Overall, we certainly feel good about our assessment that the LuxeAdapt Soft will have a generally similar feel to the Cloud Luxe, though with not quite as much softness (as we stated in the video). This would also make it fairly close to the Cloud Elite. That said, it is not identical to either of those.
      In terms of what you are being told by the store, if they are stating that the LuxeAdapt will provide categorically better support for any sleeper on account of the "high density foam layer," then I'm afraid that is just marketing. "Better support" is just a colloquialism -- what good support means for any given person is that their spine is held in a neutral position during the night. The mattress that will do this best will vary based on your weight, body shape, primary sleep position, and other factors. So no mattress offers categorically "better support."
      If, on the other hand, they are stating that based on their specific assessment of you and your unique requirements, they believe the LuxeAdapt will provide more neutral spinal alignment in your case, then that's entirely possible -- and without having the benefit of seeing you on that mattress, I would not be in a position to confirm or deny their assessment.
      I hope that's helpful.

    Would you consider tempurpedic and loom and leaf to be in the “same league “ as far as comfort and quality is concerned?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  5 років тому +3

      Hi there -- Thanks for your question. In general, I think that Tempur-Pedic still makes the highest-quality memory foam mattresses out there. That said, they have been cutting back on their foam density over the past 10 years. While I do believe that these changes are fundamentally good-intentioned -- e.g., intended to improve things like feel, comfort, temperature regulation, etc. -- IMHO they are also most likely detrimental to the overall comfort life of these products, which to most people is an important element of "quality."
      Now, foam density is *certainly* not everything when it comes to quality -- there are plenty of benefits to Tempur's proprietary formulation(s) that go beyond density, especially in terms of the entirely subjective matter of "comfort," which you also mentioned. In fact, density is not even everything when it comes to just the longevity aspect of quality. But, to the extent that it is a factor, Tempur's changes over the past 10 years have given newer market entrants an opportunity to close the gap on this front. Loom & Leaf is one such player, although moreso than Tempur-Pedic, they also incorporate some less-proven components into their products. Although, like Tempur-Pedic, they most likely have very good intentions for doing this, IMHO it does introduce the potential for a "weak link" that an otherwise similar Tempur product would not have. For this reason, I would not put them on par with Tempur-Pedic. That said, your question was whether they are in the same league -- if that "league" is simply higher-end memory foam mattresses, then sure, that would be a reasonable statement.
      I hope that's helpful.

      GoodBed hi and thank you for responding. It actually did help. Just a quick FYI, I tried the zen haven and didn’t like the latex feel so exchanged it for the loom and leaf firm (I’m a heavyweight) but alas it is too firm, so now I’m waiting on the relaxed firm option to arrive. I’ve had a tempurpedic cloud supreme breeze for the last almost 8 years and I do love the memory foam feel but needed a new mattress for the guest room so I decided to put the tempur in there and get myself a new one. As far as I can tell, based on your reply, I’m basically getting the generic version of tempurpedic, which often times generics are just as good ie; fruit loops lol. But if it falls short in the long run, at least I can buy 3 loom and leaf beds for the price of 1 tempurpedic. So wish me luck and thanks again for your review and especially for your response.

    I currently own a Tempur Pedic Celebrity mattress from over 10 years ago. I am replacing it and found your review of the Lux quite informative. Can you tell me which of the LuxAdapt line is more similar to the Celebrity; soft or firm?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  2 роки тому

      Hi Mitchell. Thanks for the question. I know it seems straightforward, but it's actually tricky. That's because Tempur-Pedic doesn't maintain information on old product lines, and GoodBed wasn't around 10 years ago. However, the Celebrity was an all-foam mattress, so any of the Tempur-pedic all-foam beds will be in the same ballpark.
      The other reason it's tricky is that our mattresses naturally soften up over the years, so the mattress as it was 10 years ago when you bought would feel very different today in comparison -- it happens so slowly that your body just adapts over the years. So the mattress you may have bought as a firm might feel more like a medium today.
      Believe me -- I know it's not helpful to you that I can't say "oh, the Tempur-Pedic xyz is exactly like your old Celebrity mattress" -- but keep in mind that anyone who does is full of it. Your best bet is to hit up the Tempur-Pedic store (or a retailer who carries the brand) and give it a try. Before you buy, make sure you can exchange for a different "feel" or model if you get it home and don't love it. If you order directly from Tempur-Pedic, you get a 90-day in-home trial; you can return the mattress less the shipping fees.
      I hope that's somewhat helpful!

      Hi Franklin -- Thanks for your comment. It sounds like the Medium Hybrid didn't provide enough pressure relief for you. The PRObreeze models do not have the APR+ memory foam.
      As for the LuxeAdapt Firm vs Soft, there is a pretty big difference in softness between the two, as we describe at 4:36 in the video. Both have a lot of cushioning depth and conformance, which some people (including Tempur-Pedic) equate to softness. Also, both have a lot of memory feel, where the mattress really melts beneath you as you warm it up. However, the top foam layers of the Firm model are much firmer, which gives it much more surface firmness and less cushy softness than the Soft. So the Firm version might work for you, especially if you are on the heavier side. It might be worth trying in a store.
      Hope that helps!

      Yes -- as we said before, we thought that both are medium soft, so that means a similar "feel."
      Tempur-pedic's Tempur-LuxeAdapt mattresses feature a new cooling cover that's removable and machine washable, along with a new memory material called Tempur-APR+ that the company says is meant to improve pressure relief. The 13" tall LuxeAdapt mattresses are sisters to the less expensive 12" Tempur-ProAdapt mattresses, which share the same removable and washable cooling cover, and have less of the Tempur material. So that's the big difference between the two. So whether the LuxeAdapt's new foam and taller height is "worth it" to you is purely a judgement call!

      Hi Elisabeth -- Thanks for your question, and sorry I missed this earlier. The truth is that the majority of mattresses with at least 3 inches of slow-responding memory foam on top that use either an all-foam or pocketed-coil construction will offer as near to perfect motion isolation as is possible, so it would be impossible to pick a single "best" from that rather large group. Going further, there is another even larger class of mattresses right below the first class that we would say offers "very good" motion isolation -- meaning, more than good enough for the vast majority of people, though perhaps not for people who have a particularly acute concern in this area.
      I would actually put basically all Tempur-Pedic mattresses in the first category -- meaning, near-perfect motion isolation. As for why yours no longer offers excellent motion isolation, this is rather curious since nothing should really change with the motion isolation properties of an all-foam mattress over time. If yours no longer offers excellent motion isolation, my guess is that something might have happened with the frame or platform underneath the mattress. Not that you would want to sleep on the floor, but to illustrate the point, it would be very surprising to me if you were to still experience significant motion disturbance if that mattress were on the floor. In that situation, the only thing that could really transfer motion is the stretch cover, which is typically a very subtle form of motion disturbance.
      As an aside, if you're shopping around, this question is actually a great litmus test of how trustworthy someone is as an information resource. If they answer this by giving you a specific brand or a list of models that have the "best motion isolation," you can know instantly that they are simply trying to sell you those products (or that they don't know what they're talking about).
      I hope that's helpful.

    My tempur pedic rep (I work at an Ashley store) said that the apr+ and regular apr have the same amount of pressure relief just that apr+ is more contouring and that the luxadapt is more supportive.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  5 років тому +13

      Hi Jesse -- Thanks for your comment. Pressure relief and contouring are two sides of the same coin. One of the things that makes memory foam a superior pressure relief material is its ability to contour more closely to your body. The more points of contact your body has with a surface, the less pressure there is on any one point of contact.
      To illustrate this, think of lying on two different beds of nails -- one with the normal amount of nails and the other with half as many. You're lying on the same material in each case, but the one with fewer nails is going to hurt a lot more because your weight is distributed over fewer points of contact.
      Contouring *can* also help with spinal alignment (which is what actually matters when one talks about "support"). This is especially true in the case of side sleepers, the position in which most people's curves are most prominent. The curvier they are, the more conformance they will need to hold their spine in a neutral position while they sleep.
      That said, the idea that any mattress is "more supportive" for everyone is just marketing. For example, for someone that has fewer curves, adding conformance can actually work against them, causing their heaviest parts to sink too far into the mattress and reducing spinal alignment.
      I hope that's helpful.

      FWIW, while I can 100% appreciate someone wanting to get other viewpoints (as would I), you should be aware that there aren't any other mattress review sites that possess both accurate information and objective expertise -- meaning there aren't any other mattress review sources that are actually trustworthy. Many supposedly unbiased review sites even have direct corporate ties to mattress brands. Typically these ties are disclosed only on a page of fine print on their site, if they're disclosed at all. We've listed those sites here: www.goodbed.com/pages/biased-mattress-review-websites/
      There are also some dead give-aways to look for that will "out" a mattress reviewer as a shyster. We've listed and explained those here: www.goodbed.com/pages/untrustworthy-mattress-review-websites/
      It's become an incredibly seedy underbelly I'm afraid... I hope that's helpful.

      @@goodbed, yep. I've gathered as much. It'll be interesting consulting your list and see if any of the suspect ones I've visited are on it. Buyer beware. You are doing a great service to consumers and society in general. Ingegrity. Thank you, and God bless you.

      @@dazimon Thanks again for your very kind words. And yes, this is often exactly how it happens. Buyer beware indeed.
      If you're willing to share, I'd be curious to hear any examples you've seen of this type of thing in other industries. I've looked around a little to try to see how the FTC has dealt with this in other industries, but so far haven't been able to find any good examples that seem to approximate what's been happening in this industry.
      Also, just to clarify one other thing, if you don't see a site on the list I sent above, this just means that they haven't been DIRECTLY backed a mattress brand -- but the absence of guilt in that one particular area does not by any means make them innocent.
      Almost all of the sites that aren't included on that list are still very much "pay to play." This means that their lists of the "best mattresses" are carefully curated with one objective -- to show you the brands that make them the most money. These sites have no actual expertise in mattresses -- they just use the fake disguise of an "unbiased expert" to make you want to buy the mattresses that they want to sell. Their only real expertise is in SEO, and as long as they continue to fool Google / UA-cam into ranking them highly, brands will feel that they have to work with them.
      That's why I included the other article, which explains how to spot an untrustworthy mattress review site more generally. TLDR: The best clue is to look for lists of the "best mattresses." These lists sounds great if you think mattresses are an appliance (like a toaster), but once you realize that mattresses are about personal fit (like pants), you realize that having someone tell you the "best mattress of 2020" makes no more sense than having them tell you that the "best pants of 2020" are the Dockers boot cut with 36 waist and 32 length. For context, our algorithm takes into account literally dozens of different factors about your needs and preferences in order to create a personalized list of the best mattresses for *you*. So even the idea of a universal list of the "best mattress for side sleepers" is a complete fantasy.
      But of course, these guys know full well that their information is steering countless people into bad purchases. They don't care though, because it was never supposed to help people in the first place. It was just supposed to sell mattresses and make them money. And that it does -- LOTS of money. "Best mattress" lists are the most lucrative pages on their sites, by far, which is why these lists will continue to be the best sure-fire way to spot a scam mattress review site.
      I hope that's helpful.

    Bought recently a pro adapt medium. I'm finding it a bit to hard most nights or laying in bed watching tv for extended periods. Just for fun and a test I threw a Novofoam topper I had on it. Felt a great softness layer but it still maintained the deeper contouring and correct postute feeling. But for brand new bed it's important to get the right bed not put a topper on it. My question is should I switch to the pro adapt soft model or now that this luxeadapt is available give that a try. I'm in Canada, I need to check if Sleep country carries the Luxe.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  4 роки тому +3

      Hi Tavo -- thanks for the question. GENERALLY speaking, a soft, all-foam mattress is not the best support choice for a person in that weight range for a few reasons. The most important aspect of any mattress is spinal-alignment and support. Our concern with a soft all-foam mattress for heavier individuals is that the soft foams will allow a person's hips to sink -- and often, just keep sinking -- creating arching in the back, which can lead to back pain.
      For heavier people that prefer a soft feel, we will often recommend going with a firmer hybrid mattress (that's a mattress with a pocketed-coil support unit) that will give the back support that's needed, then add a soft mattress topper to give the feel that you like.
      So even before considering how long a mattress will last, it needs to meet your basic need of back support and spinal alignment.
      We'd really recommend first taking our GoodBed Quiz -- answer some questions about your needs and preferences, and our algorithm can give you a 'match score' for each bed that tells you how its features line up against your needs. @goodbed  3 місяці тому +1

      Hi Igor -- This is almost impossible to say with certainty. In general, we often tell people that if you don't have a tendency to sleep hot, there's a good chance you won't need to worry about sleeping hot on a memory foam mattress either.
      But in your case, since you do tend to sleep hot, it is more likely that this will be an issue for you on a memory foam mattress. And it's certainly more likely that it will be an issue on the LuxeAdapt Firm relative to the LuxeBreeze Firm.
      That being said, if you slept on the LuxeBreeze and did NOT have any overheating issues, then there is still some chance that you won't have any such issues on the LuxeAdapt either. And of the two LuxeAdapts, you should certainly be better off on the Firm (vs the Soft) from a temperature standpoint, so you made the right choice on that front.
      Sorry I can't be of more help on this one, but please keep us posted!

      @goodbed  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Tommy. Thanks for the comment -- you're correct. On both models now, the Tempur APR+ is the second layer of foam. We'll look into when that changed.
      If your main concern is pressure relief on your side, then the Soft version is probably the way to go. But you don't say how heavy you are -- when stomach sleeping, your hips might sink in too much (common issue with soft memory foam). One thought is to go with the firm for stomach-sleeping support, then add a mattress topper if you want extra softness.

      Hi Heidi -- Thanks for your question. • @goodbed
      @goodbed  5 років тому +5

      Hi David -- This is a great question. There is no doubt that there will be less coolness to the "touch" the more layers of fabric are between you and the mattress. That said, the material should still have a temperature-regulating impact once the heat from your body reaches it, which certainly would still happen even through sheets and a protector.
      Think of it like the marble example we used in the video. If you put a sheet on top of a slab of marble, it would certainly reduce the coolness to the touch (vs touching the marble directly). But if you were to then lay on that sheet (on top of the marble), there would still be more of a cooling effect than if you laid on that same sheet on top of wood.

    Im really curious about these since it seems like tempurpedic skimped on the apr and tempur material in the proadapt firm. It really disappoints me. I spent nearly $3000 only to discover its mostly comprised of hard rigid quick-response high density foam that i'd never sleep on alone. Then I learn they staggered the release of their best model that has much more of the material. It's hard to believe the production of foam products is expensive. Its the research behind the technology that cost $$$$. Which makes me wonder why they'd make a less comfortable mattress just to make a proper mattress more marketable. Disappointed and I have no recourse.

      Jesse N if you bought your bed within the last 4 months you most likely can still go to the store and swap it out and only the pay difference plus a redelivery/small restocking fee as long as your have a mattress protector

      This is old but who the heck wrote this?? I had the rhapsody and it was great but I got a little old and started to sink in so far I'd wake up in a crater and in hammock pain in my middle and lower back. I now have the contour elite which is like the same as the pro adapt firm and it's so much better. They make different mattresses for different people it's not their fault you bought the wrong one.

      @@Bennyblades44 who the heck wrote it? Who do you think? You can read, right?
      You don't own a proadapt firm so you can't speak from experience, not that I would value your response if you did.
      Since I didn't comment on the comfort of the mattress, you have no idea where I stand with that... I did however comment on the quality of the materials used compared to the premium version that was release months later. And yes, I stand by that 3 years later. Bad business, and I won't buy direct from temperpedic again.

      @@cornholius premium version??? You mean firm version?? Skimped on materials??? You mean literally the exact materials minus the breeze feature and a different configuration for less cushion for a more firm feel?? You're lost. You're telling me I don't own the pro adapt firm when I own the contour elite which feels virtually identical. That's like saying only have the 2020 jeep Cherokee and it's 2021 so I know nothing about jeep Cherokees. I had the damn rhapsody which is the same as the newer Luxe and it was so much less supportive and uncomfortable. Like sleeping in Clark Griswolds sled. To some people the pro adapt firm is better than the Luxe hate to break it to you. Enjoy your purple or whatever trash bed you have now.

    Seems like tempurpdic is skimping on the density of the basefoams on all their new models, this is disappointing. 1.6 lb basefoam is low quality, won’t last as long and won’t support heavier weights as well as their higher density foams they don’t seem to be using anymorw

      where did you find the density of the base foam? I thought they wouldn't give that information

    These “cool” covers make no sense to me. I’ve got a mattress cover and sheets on my bed. How can these cool covers help in any way unless you are sleeping directly on them?!

      Hi David -- Thanks for your comment. This is a very fair point. While we can't scientifically measure the effect, our hunch is the same as yours -- that sheets and bedding are going to negate at least some of the 'cool feel' of a cover. That said, it should still have some ability to absorb heat from your body. Imagine if you put a sheet over a piece of marble vs. on a wood floor -- it's a more extreme example to illustrate the point, but certainly the marble would still feel cooler.
