Amazed at how no video game has ever managed to do a realistic ocean below surface....
It always looks like the little mermaid , with coral arches , full of colorful life and kilometers of crystal-clear water in front of us.

No? Subnautica is one game that do a great job, sunrays hit the sand floors etc etc. Tons of nice effects. (You spend 99% of your time under water so it should be good). Amazed that people know nothing about anything...but yet again people play games in 1080p or even worse, or on mobile devices (!) and think its good enough - so thats a thing.

That's a preposterous assessment. Even one of the very first and well-known sub aquatic VR experiences that was made available for the general public a few years ago, Ocean Rift, displayed admirably well-recreated environments and fairly accurate water density and visual distances, specially in its Samsung Gear VR version if we take the hardware it ran on into account.
