British Pilgrimage Sites: Pennant Melangell

- I visit Pennant Melangell in the heart of Wales. This incredible shrine church, dating from the 12th century, commemorates St. Melangell, a 7th century hermit and contains the oldest surviving Romanesque shrine in Northern Europe.
Melangell, the daughter of an Irish king, ran away from a planned marriage and sailed across the sea to Wales where she retreated to a remote valley to live as a hermit. There she lived in quiet contemplation until one day the Prince of Powys was out hunting. Chasing a hare, he found it sheltering in the folds of gown of a beautiful young woman. The dogs would not attack it and his horn stuck to his lips. Realising her holiness, he gifted the entire valley to her and her community of nuns.
Revived and rebuilt in the 20th century, aside from the shrine itself, Pennant Melangell has a pilgrim centre and prayer garden as well as a 2,000-year-old yew reputedly hugged by King Charles III!

As someone involved in pheasant shooting, however, I'll have to take issue with your claim that it is "inhumane"!

Just as the Ka’aba is the Qibla, prayer direction for the worshippers, hearts are the Qibla of the spiritual wayfarers and seekers.
And the Heart and the Ka’aba are only two designated directions for communicating the secrets of Truth, and the Truth is God❤
