- The witch transformed into a hare is an old folk tale found across many parts of Europe. In Wales, the story appears to have a connection to Saint Melangell, the protector of ŵyn Melangell ('Melangell's lambs'), the traditional Welsh name for hares.

I visit St Melangell's regularly(Well, I did before covid) I so hope to return again soon. Despite the site now being a Christian one, I always sense a more spiritual, magical atmosphere there. I Very interesting video, and my love for hares drew me to your channel:)
It's a very old site, possible with some Bronze Age remains, so used for a good millennia or two before Christians came to the site.
If you get the chance, I would love to hear more of your insight about St. Melangell!
Thank you for these facinating stories.

Thank you for this video! Have you read Sylvia Federici’s “Caliban and the Witch?” The way you mention attitudes about witchcraft and its connection to classism reminded me of her work.
the courses look very interesting, i have bookmarked this and may be exploring further. these classes fall right into the area of what i enjoy studying.
Hi Gwilym - I hate to be pedantic, but the tribute to St Melangell at her church in Pennant Melangell is a shrine I think, rather than an altar, which would only be to God. I'd recommend anyone to go there, in search of peace or history or natural beauty. The shrine itself was recovered, like a jigsaw, from the walls around the churchyard, where the pieces had been re-used after the vandalism of Henry VIII had ruined it.
o go on, be pedantic! apologies, yes it's shrine, but unscripted video does something to the brain sometimes, which means every 1000 words you get one wrong ;)
Allan The Antiquarian did a great vid on St. Melangeth and even went to her tomb in the church she founded
With that title I thought I was about to watch something related to Narnia.
I was clearly inspired!
Have you heard Maddy Prior's epic song, The Hare?
I have not, no. But I'll check it out, thanks.
