I'm Korean living in South Korea. Bullying with burning iron in school actually really happened in South Korea many years ago. That scene was based on a real event. Bullying in school is a very seriously bad issue in Korea like Japan. By the way, the young Korean actress who played the main character Moon Dong Eun of teenage version is the same actress who played a daughter of the rich family who loved Kevin in the Korean film "The Parasite".
I read about that. I was so shocked to read that the burning with an iron actually happened to someone. That is not even bullying. That is just torture!
It is very sad to realize that the real victim, whose story is partly based on real events, committed suicide recently, and the bullers live like nothing happened.
as someone who was bullied at school as well, even it wasn't that bad like in The Glory, I struggled while watching too, it still hit close home, ngl. been watching you guys since hunter x hunter reactions, really excited & looking forward to this!
Unfortunate to tell you, bullying cases like this happened a lot in South Korea. This iron case was inspired from real case there. The revenge plots inspired from real case in Japan
corporal punishment used to be acceptable in korea and many other asian countries not so long ago. Since kids spend more time awake with their teachers than with their parents, parents were rather complicit with leaving some of the disciplining to the teachers. when i was in grade school, our teachers used metal rulers to hit our palms or a book to the back of the head like in the animes. however, with the emergence of smartphones with cameras and the social media around high school, there became like an international public outcry and i guess the governments and local societies felt very embarrassed that they're being deemed as "child abusers" by foreign spectators so schools, including ours, started banning corporal punishments. some schools today still practice it though-with the consent of the parents, because honestly fear kinda worked. it may have messed some up, but majority of the kids when i was in school were respectful and mostly rule-abiding very likely out of fear of being hit.
Yes, bullying in Korean society is horrific - in schools like this (the curling iron is a true story) & in korean millitary (like in D.P.) Also, teachers hitting students was common & acceptable until a little while ago. (I went to school in Korea.)
believe it or not my father is korean and he told me up until a some yrs ago teachers actually hit students … he used to get beat up with a stick whenever he did something wrong, not only in Korea I think is an asian thing tbh, nowadays things are different but still bullying is such an issue in Korea a teacher actually killed herself after being bullied by students and their parents, in Korea unfortunately money is power and it can dictates everything
I’m glad you guys started reacting this series. I’m very sure you’ll like this. It’s not the typical revenge stories that we’re used to. This is one of my favorites kdrama. Absolutely. All your assumptions for now may be wrong. 2nd part (9-16) is intense. I finished 8 episodes in one day. 😊
Also fun fact : in Asia it used to be very normal for teacher to hit students and ppl just gonna see it as "teaching kids" . But thank god it's not accaptable anymore😁
The first episode was really hard to watch. Every single actors performed brilliant. They literally deserve applause especially Song Hye Kyo(The main actress) and Lim Ji Yeon (The main antagonist)👏👏❤❤ And I've always loved Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki together. Sad they're not together but it's okay☺💓 Thank you for reacting on The Glory🙏☺🌺❤
super stoked for you guys to watch this! :DD but yeah this was hard to watch. i watched the drama as soon as it dropped and there were a lot of tears from me for episode1.
It's kinda frustrating that no one knows anything about Song Hye Kyo (the main girl)..associated as "Song Joongki's ex-wife"? cmon she debuted almost a decade before SOng Joongki..she is a LEGEND, one of the 3 goddesses of Korea..I remember my first kdrama of her, Autumn Tale..
That's because they watched song joongki's drama first before watching the glory. It's not like they know so much about korean actors, they just got into kdrama recently. Chill out.
@@tuberose666 Hats off to Im Ji Yeon though, that girl got ambitions!! And she's on her way to fulfilling them, working with the 3 goddesses..first with Song Hye Kyo in this award winning drama, immediately followed by Secrets Hidden in My Garden with Kim Tae Hee (this show was a midf**k!)..will be waiting for her starring with Jun Ji Hyun..
Teachers in Korea used to hit students like that fr...like until 1990s..Situations have been changed a lot because now there are not much power left for teachers.
School corruption in Korea is wild. Bullying in schools can happen anywhere in the World but the news about how involved the faculty in these is mind blowing.
A lot of the events and bullying depicted in the drama are based off of true stories that occurred in South Korea. I really also recommend you guys watch the show D.P. as it shows the true horror military can be, and it deals with cases in South Korea too.
u should watch descendants of the sun with song jung ki and song hye kyo , u realize how versatile of an actress hyekyo is after watching tht. plus its a really good show.
This first episode was rough 🫣😔
How’d everyone else handle it?
Apparently the burning bullying is based on a real case in Korea
A 60 year old Englishman here.......I cried......
knew it was based on a true story before starting it, threw up had to take multiple breaks.
I got through it by cussing those kids out the entire time lol literally yelling at my screen helped a lot 😅

I think in Asian countries in general, bullying is kinda too violent

Song hye kyo is not just the ex wife, SHE IS the Korean Wave Song Hye Gyo, shes more popular than her ex

People know these specific reactors just don't know this is their first time seeing her
The girl who plays Yeon Jin's daughter is the same actress who plays the little girl version of the attorney Woo Young Woo 👀

School corruption in Korea is wild.

At times like this, i just wished Nanno would pay visit to their school and deliver the biggest karma ever.
OOOOOHH THAT WOULD BE EPIC
Yey finally!!!
Now for real want yall react to the penthouse kdrama too
*Me the entire time watching this:* WHERE'S NANNO WHEN YOU NEED HER?! 😢

I love that drama so much😍
WOW👏👏👏👏👏👏
Please upgrade it quickly..All together without a breakaway I can see it.
7:30 性惡說 .. The evil in man is masked by our civilized society.
Try watching the worst of evil it's amazing
Sadly, money does rule over there especially in private schools. The amount of teacher suicides in Korea is staggering.
Finally..
The glory um dorama necessário
I did a lot of fast-forwarding during a lot of the bullying. I got the gist the first time they showed it.
🎉
ITAEWON CLASS please🙏
FLOWER OF EVIL please🙏
