    The movie gives you a very good "flavor" of Queen history, but it is not a documentary. The makers took poetic license. Facts are accurate but time sequences are not.

  • @kitty1376
    @kitty1376 5 років тому +61

    Please don't go in expecting a documentary. It's not. It's more of a docudrama. They changed the timeline a bit, but that was so they could fit seventeen years worth of events into two and a quarter hours. And I've seen other reactors give this movie crap because they didn't use Queen's entire catalog. 😐 The movie would be a few days long if that was the case. It was overseen by Brian and Roger of Queen (as well as an email of praise from Queen bassist John Deacon to one of the film's producers, Graham King). It was also produced by Queen's manager, Jim Beach, so that should mean something, too. I'm a longtime Queen fan and I LOVED this movie! I've seen it twice and already have it pre ordered on Blu Ray 😊

    The part about Freddie wanting to leave the band to make a solo album is not factual.He did have a solo career but he had no intention of leaving the band altogether.In reality there was never any infighting within the group about doing solo albums.In fact drummer Roger Taylor was the first member of Queen to put out a solo album not Freddie.Also Freddie didn't know he had hiv until 1987 not right before Live Aid in 1985.

    • @mieroth
      @mieroth 5 років тому +3

      There was definitely tension in the band over Freddie's album considering he was getting a bigger advance than any Queen album. All Queen members did their passion projects on the side but this was the first time a solo album threatened the exist of Queen itself had it been a success. They've simplified the story for the movie though, for sure.

    • @TRANZEURO
      @TRANZEURO 5 років тому +5

      @@mieroth Perhaps but my comment was strictly just about the idea of band members doing solo albums.That was as you pointed out really more about the money he'd be getting,and the threat it posed.The film made it seem like Freddie actually abandoned the others and they had actually broken up for a bit because of this.

      Exactly...the film is fine as a visual and audio performance but you must not take it as a fact. Because it is way too far from reality both factually and as long as Freddie's character is concerned. One must be ready for that.

    Freddie died 6 years after Live Aid concert. He did two videos you must see. They were done during his illness so he's "smaller" you might say. They are masterpieces. In February 91 they did "I'm Going Slightly Mad" and on May 30 "These are the Days of Our Lives" and he died 6 months later. Everybody loves the film...I don't. It is a well done job, the actors did a terrific job BUT...WATCH OUT, SPOILER!!! anyone who knows something about Queen must see the errors of it. Fuck it whether Fat bottomed girls were not released before Bohemian Rhapsody, that is the least of its problems. But why all the lies about Freddie almost breaking the band by going solo and shit like "we haven't played together for 4 years" before live aid concert, let alone the fact that Freddie was not aware of his diagnosis until 1987. I was disappointed that Brian and Roger let this happen. Anyway...I believe majority of people will enjoy it. But the picture of Freddie you get from this film is very....inacurate to say the least.

    I just wish they would have stayed with the truth, not changing it to make it fit their agends or to make it flow better. YOU SAID IN ANOTHER VIDEO YOU HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE SO THA'S WHY I SAY THE FOLLOWING At the end they have him telling the band and his friends, family he has AIDS, but he didn't even know he was sick at that date Why change such a important piece of info? I think if they are doing the story of Queen they should stick to facts. Some people are going to see this film and assume its all fact and that is how false info gets spread.I've seen it over and over ppl having debates about something and they say well I saw it in the movie about their life they were there they are not wrong. No they are just being jerks and making changs to fact to make their film better so they can win an Oscar.

    Have seen the movie twice now, it was incredible! If it doesn't get any awards then there is seriously something wrong with Hollywood. Just keep in mind that it’s not 100 % accurate, as one can’t expect it to be, but it was amazing for what it was! Roger Taylor and Brian May themselves were even producers on the movie, so If they are satisfied, then I feel like we all should be as well.

    **UPDATE: Oops, I posted this before I watched your entire reaction and missed you not wanting spoilers, sorry LOL It's just basically corrections to what you just read so maybe it might be okay. :)
    Before you go see the movie, some of what you just read about the movie is incorrect, though.
    It said that Freddie was diagnosed with AIDS in 1985 right before Live Aid and that is what brings the band back together as they were "broken up" due to Freddie's solo career. That part is definitely untrue as they had just gotten off the road from a lengthy tour just 2 months prior (May 1985) to Live Aid and the other members of the band did not have a problem with Freddie's solo album as Roger had done 2 solo albums and Brian had also done one. Roger even says in an interview that he knew Freddie missed them while he was recording ( I believe in Germany?) and that Roger would get on a plane to visit him and record backing vocals for Freddie's album. This part of the movie was really only thing that bothered me, but I do realize the movie makers needed to make the movie flow a certain way to get it in at 2 hours and 15 minutes (although I would have NO problem sitting through a 4 hour movie about Queen :) )
    The other thing was that it is believed that Freddie was diagnosed as HIV positive in 1987 and then AIDS in 1989 and he told his band mates then, although they already pretty much guessed what he had. Again, I understand why they changed it for the most part, but still wished they had told it like it really was.
    Still loved the movie and I am really enjoying your reactions to Queen's music. :)

    Hey hey! Yes, it's me, relentless 1980’s Fat Bottom Girl from Old HB, NYC here.
    Aren’t I getting on your nerves already!? I’m getting on my own Freakin’ nerves!
    I actually listened, while scrubbing floors, each and every one of your Queen reactions. I also made the same comment on each and every song. It seems to me that others are reading your "Comments" and have began choosing the very same 3 songs, I’ve requested over and over again.
    "THE PROPHETS SONG”
    "NOW I’M HERE”
    "BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY”
    As you are well aware, Queen were very "Meticulous" when it came to recording. Everything is done with the listener in mind. I read a comment that agreed with me. It actually read, “ALL QUEEN SONGS ARE REQUIRED TO BE HEARD THROUGH HEADPHONES!
    With the headphones, your whole perception of the songs, PROVES and SHOWS, how they recorded most, if not all songs, especially the older albums. They spent Painstaking HOURS intentionally striving for a certain sound for their fans.
    Way back when, the ONLY WAY TO ACHIEVE THE FULL “QUEEN EXPERIENCE”, was intended to be used with full ear headphones. As you listen, you hear them bouncing from left, right, up, down, center, EVERYWHERE, throughout, especially the 3 songs listed above.
    Please shut me up already and play the above “Triple Threat” and live the “Queen Experience", as Queen would want you to.
    YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!! I PROMISE!!!
    Sincerely,
    Teresa (Terry Anne) Fogarty

    For a bit of a different sound, try this ua-cam.com/video/bNc9DDDr9qE/v-deo.html. It’s called 39 and it was written by Queen’s guitarist Dr. Brian May who has a PhD in Astrophysics and the song is very folky and sung mostly by Brian. It’s very clever and the story is basically about time travel. It comes from one of the band’s earlier records and has a unique sound compared to the rest of Queen’s discography :)

    I really like this movie despite its historical inaccuracies. It’s a lit more like a Queen 101. But it did succeed in two things. It’s very entertaining, a crowd pleaser that gets everyone laughing, crying and especially singing. It also, most importantly, brought people a new respect for Queen, rock n roll and Freddie Mercury. The new generation is discovering their music and reacting to their songs, like you. Plus the older fans are rediscovering things about them they never knew before. I’m part of the ladder. I listened to their mainstream songs as a kid and loved them. I knew the name Queen but I didn’t know the people in the band or even who Freddie Mercury was. When I saw the movie, it sparked something in me. Now I adore Queen, they’re my favorite band and I’m one of their biggest fans. I now know who Freddie, Brian, Roger and John are and know what they went through to bring their music to us and I highly respect all of them! I’m really glad I saw this movie and fell in love with Queen all over again!

    The movie had some in accuracies because it was only an hour and 40 minutes. The band never did break up and each member did solo work. The most important parts of the movie are very very accurate and the bandmembers wanted to make sure that they were. I know that Freddie Mercury never wanted to be portrayed as a sickly man dying with AIDS. I’m sure that is the reason the movie ended the way it did and didn’t go into this big drawn out dramatic scene with him on his deathbed. I’m glad the movie did not go there. One in accuracy, for example, is that Freddie was diagnosed before live aid and actually he wasn’t diagnosed until April 1987. They made the movie that way so that it could end with the live aid performance in 1985 and at the end revealing that Freddie died of aids in 1991. The movie did reflect other patients with the disease and showed how horrible they looked. Freddie never wanted to be made boring and he didn’t want to be somebody’s poster child.
