I really hope Dafoe gets an Oscar nod for this! He really brings a heart that goes deeper than your typical ‘Mad Scientist’.

I’m something of a father myself

I just love Willian dafoe, even in watching his own work you can tell he’s really trying to understand the character on screen and not his own performance

That last scene with him was so good. Surprisingly emotional. Excellent movie.

I feared the movie would turn God into a possessive father - mad scientist figure; I am so glad it didn't, his character and his complexity truly are the heart of it

A beautiful scene, made me both laugh and cry. And a beautiful exposition of it. MR’s laugh at the watching is gogglebox perfection.

    Spoiler:
It bothers me that at the end of the movie they did not put his brain in the body of the husband instead of a goat

Because he was already dying. Even if they did that, his brain in the husband's body, he would still not have long to live.

@copy_bat it was the body that was dying though. His brain would have been fine based on the rules they established in the movie of resurrecting people

    • @copyglow

@@fuerte1300 The resurrection part would only work well on a human with plenty of life left in them, which is why it worked well with the infant. If the body started to die, then the brain would be dying along with it. So even if they did put the brain into a healthy body, he would’ve just ended up dying soon anyway because the brain would still be aged and unhealthy.

no offense but you are kind of a phillistine. of course they could do that they could go around putting his brain into the body of every dead person forever and ever but that would be a desecration of human life. the kind of thinking that befits a marvel movie

There was a reason Bella Baxter committed suicide, she saw the dailies of Poor Things, that is what drove her of the bridge.

Unfortunately the highly stylized Poor Things let's you down with the overcharged sexual exploitation of Bella Baxter. Implied sexual content is far more tantalizing than graphic exploitation. I wonder how many theaters had to put seat covers over their seats to protect them from disgusting men? I literally had tears in my eyes seeing Emily bound, gagged and sodomized. I left the theater hurt. Emily Jean is so far beyond a t&a movie, I ask myself why?
I classify this movie as an Art House Porno Horror movie. In the same league as Andy Warhols Frankenstein. As they saying goes you can't make a pig pretty by putting lipstick on it...

Listen old man. Those scenes should not be overtly sexual to you, they have nuance, and they represent the inability to find ones self through prostitution. Its a complex theme that went way over your head.

@tylerdillon8826 I feel like those scenes have a different meaning. That your body is kind of yours to do with as you please, and if women need to or want to engage in sex work as a way of making money, its their choice to do so. I think through her sex work, Bella was able to more completely find out who she is and what she doesn't like. She kind of says that later on, that It was an experience that taught her something.

good god man, it wasn’t supposed to be tantalizing. you severely missed the point.
