  • While we wait for the 60th Anniversary to roll around in November, it's time to squeeze a video out about what I'd like to see in Series 14 and beyond. I'm pretty certain Russell is going to do a bang-up job returning to the role of Showrunner, but it doesn't mean I don't have any suggestions!
What would you like to see in this new era of #DoctorWho? Let me know in the comments! 👇

The aftermath of the flux could be fixed with a single line of dialogue. The villains - who I cared so little about that I have already forgotten their names - said they were going to rewind time and make the doctor watch the destruction of everything over and over. A line suggesting that they had started that process to the point of rewinding hand waves the whole season away. And similarly you could hand wave away the timeless child with a single line about how the Matrix had been corrupted and nothing it showed could be relied on. That would leave it ambiguous enough that every fan could have whatever head-canon they were happy with and no need to ever mention it again.

@@mayotango1317No, that's too direct and requires too much setup, which will distract from new stories. The best way to fix things is to just use quick offhand dialogue, like what the original commenter said. Just a line about the matrix being corrupted and unreliable is all we need.

We NEED another episode with the Silence as the antagonists (the monster, not the religious movement). Their really creative and super creepy and with Russell’s writing, they would be indomitable!
It’s not even hard to bring them back either. As far as we know they are sprinkled everywhere throughout human history. We could have an episode where the Silence are manipulating the American Revolutionary War and they’ve messed with George III so much that he went mad. That just one of many story ideas.
    Bring back the Silence!

Good points! Series 14 definitely has the potential to be a new jumping on point, like S5 and S11, and especially with Ncuti's past work probably bringing in a new audience as well. I think a more grounded series would be really good, with a solid series arc that doesn't have to be universe ending, but actually has a sense of peril & that makes us care for the outcome.
Really enjoy your videos, looking forward to what's to come!

He'll be chasing the general audience because he knows alot of the fans will back him. He's never been interested in huge amounts of continuity, so expect that to be reduced. He loves writing "character" drama, so less complex storylines and more tugging at your heart strings. He knows the pressures of writing and re-writing other writers submissions (see "The Writer's Tale"), so if he makes this new reboot a success, expect him to step back and appoint a trusted lead writer. Expect Bad Wolf to want to take ownership of Who as a franchise and, in time, rope Disney into doing movies. RTD is fan friendly, so expect him to rope us into promoting the show. Expect him, and Tennant to be appearing on social media and television promoting the anniversary and the new series.
Having said that, what would I like to see...well produced, well acted, diverting, original, sometimes surprising, sometimes pushing the boundaries drama.
    Good luck, RTD.

So as for point 1: I don't mind Division. It's basically the CIA from expanded media and let's face it, it ABSOLUTELY fits with the Time Lords as we already knew them. However, the timeless child aspect itself, and the "Flux was catastrophic but now everything is totally fine" is absolutely best ignored. Not explicitly retconned, of course, because that's not ignoring them.

I would like to see more of the Fugitive Doctor (Jo Martin)- where does she really fit into everything? (I personally think she stole the tardis and regenerated into the William Hartnell version- “who would suspect an old man of being a criminal” is what the Doctor figured.)
Donna Noble (Catherine Tate)- does she ever get her memory back?
Susan Foreman (originally played by Carole Ann Ford- though she’s now in her 80’s so how that’s going to be done, I don’t know.)
It was great to see William Russell as Ian Chesterton again! Still going at age 98- amazing!!!
Maybe more of Jo Grant (Katy Manning), Tegan Jovanka (Janet Fielding) and Ace McShane (Sofie Aldred), and maybe even Romana (Lala Ward, or another actress to mark a regeneration) and Leila (Louise Jamison).
And bring in Paul McGann as Number 8- more needs to be done with him!
And of course, the Weeping Angels!

Bring back The Meddling Monk, Autons, Slitheen, and classic Dalek designs.
I’m hoping Ruby stays on for season 15 and then there’s a new companion on board, but it’s a WW2 soldier called Lewis. He and Ruby have a relationship.
A two parter set in the Wild West.
Have the Doctor meet an alternate Doctor, an incarnation that is broken, lost their ways.
What I don’t want to see:
    No Timeless Child.
    No Master.
    No Ruth Doctor.
    No Gallifrey.

I want RTD to use the theory that the 13th Doctor was stuck in an alternate universe where the master is the timeless child, or the alternate universe’s doctor is the timeless child.
And RTD gets the 14th Doctor home to reveal that he is not the timeless child.
Ignoring it brings no closure, and it still feels part of the lore. Which is not great: because they totally f*cked up the lore.

I don't think the Timeless Child stuff has been retconned. It's just been placed in a box for a future writer to pick up.
Personally, I don't mind the Hartnell Doctor being an amnesiac who has forgotten his previous existence - it creates story opportunities. I just didn't like the off-screen destruction of Gallifrey (it was meaningless in the story and I'm still expecting it to be a big fib) and The Doctor being the origin of regeneration (which has huge ramifications to deal with).

  • @garycampbell6622
    @garycampbell6622 Рік тому

Would love to see the Timeless Child wiped. There is probably a way someone as clever as RTD could do it, but to do so would only highlight the problems of the TD and create more problems. For example, suppose the Doctor has never really regenerated since Tennant, and that somehow, regenerations 11, 12 and 13 are illusions. That would get rid of TD, but would also impugn the magnificent performances of Smith and Capaldi, as well as the worthy efforts of Whittaker. It would also wipe out some of the best stories of DW. Pretending TD never happened is probably the best strategy.

  • @42andblue5

Personally, if I were given the reigns at this point in time, I'd bring in the Other, the third founder of Gallifrey that, in expanded media, the Doctor reincarnated from. I'd say that the Other was the Timeless Child and that all that lore applies not to the Doctor themselves, but to the Other.

The death particle only destroyed organic matter, meaning that the Timelords who were exiled with Rassilon in Hell Bent could easily come back and revive the planet. That is if the cyberplanet in The Power of the Doctor isn't made out of the remnants of Gallifrey. But putting all of that aside, unless they come back as formidable antagonists, Gallifrey should remain gone. The best the timelords ever served the show was when we knew barely anything about them or when they were all dead.

    • @garycampbell6622

I assume the Daleks in Eve were after her/Yaz/Dan because they're a time faring race and one of the few that may know of the flux/what happened to all those Daleks/Cybermen/Sontarans in what may be a prevented timeline. Also Moffat incorporated those same charismatics into a lot of his female characters (Amy, Madame Kovarian, the priestess from the Time of the Doctor) and that lack of variation is also pretty sexist. Also, the constant kissing of these female characters or the creepiness of the doctor (the naked thing in Time of the Doctor) leaves Smith’s era weirdly misogynistic. 3: exploring Space and other planets. a problem with the last six seasons is that most of the episodes are set on earth, when this is a show about travelling literally anywhere at any time. Thanks to the increased budget, they have no excuse not to show more alien civilisations, races and cultures. because the last few seasons we've just had recurring villains, robots and singular monsters.
4:No Gallifreyan lore. if Chibnall's taught us anything, is that Gallifreyan lore should be left well enough alone, Russell only added small things to the lore, but Chibnall proved that Gallifreyan lore should be shelved for the forseeable future as the damage it did was Cataclysmic.
5: Give recurring villains, the Daleks, The Cybermen, The Master a massively long break. they have been overused to the point where we feel nothing anymore. Especially the daleks, the fact that their in nearly every season has me just sighing, as their return is just so predictable and the writers clearly struggle to come up with idea's for their stories. because of this we end up with terrible episodes like the Magicians Apprentice and the Witches Familiar. give them a hiatus so that allows breathing room between their appearances and gives writers time to come up with new engaging stories. same with the cybermen, we have had three finales where they are just goons for the master, their not even their own characters anymore. Hiatus, then bring them back and restore the excitement for these characters.
6: A darker tone. Chibnalls era was too child friendly. earlier seasons of doctor who were not afraid to tackle darker topics. war, genocide, mortality. I'm not saying make the show mature and grim. have a dark and grim tone while still keeping that humour and lightness sprinkled about. it also brings out much more character exploration for the doctor and can really challenge him and push the character.
No one want the timeless child arc in the new era, or any other era after that. What happened before Hartnell? nothing, because Hartnell is the very first body the doctor was born with. Time lords are strictly against interfering in the affairs of the universe beyond their home world so the division makes no sense.

Hopefully we do ignore/mimi retcon the Timeless child but if we do that we alson then need to then ignore the Fugitive Doctor
For some reason people act like she part of the main doctor (she isn't) but if we do not count TC as canon like the half human they then have to stop putting her in the line up with the main Doctors cause she ties very much with TC and as along she there so is the Timeless Child

    Things I know I'd like in RTD2:
    - Season long stories like Flux
    - The Doctor causing established history, like with Rosa and the bus
    - Something like Arachnids in the UK, where the problem is human-made, not alien
    - Classic aliens that actually look like their classic versions, like the Sontarans and Sea Devils in the Chibnall era
    - I don't know how it would be done, but Gallifrey and some Time Lords from before the Time War would be interesting, like Gat
    - I want Jodie to return for a multi-Doctor story, just so we could get a small taste of what she's like under someone else's direction. She's already stated she's interested to come back, so maybe RTD will take her up on that some time?
    - Locations on Earth that aren't just the UK or America, though no bouncing around like Praxeus, more historical figures that aren't British or American, like Zheng Yi Sao in Legend of the Sea Devils and more world history, like the Partition of India in Demons of Punjab
It'd be nice for Flux, the Division and/or the Timeless Child to be mentioned so the people saying "everything after Tennant left in 2010 should be wiped from canon" are shown that's not gonna happen. Doesn't have to be more than once, cause once is enough to show it was real.
It'd also be nice to get some sort of explanation on Gallifrey. The Day of the Doctor had the Doctors contain it in a pocket universe and Hell Bent shows that Gallifrey left said pocket universe, existing at the end of time for protection. However, in Spyfall Part 2, the Master said he visited Gallifrey in the bubble universe and he destroyed it. If that really happened, then the 12th Doctor couldn't appear on Gallifrey in Hell Bent. I know time constantly changes and planets can be destroyed at any given moment despite pre-established futures, but it feels wrong to do that to Gallifrey, the home of the masters of time.

the doctor causing historical moments diminishes the real people. The Doctor didnt make or tell Rosa to stand up to the bus driver, she just made sure Krasko didnt stop Rosa. That's how the Doctor should be written, leaving human history to the humans and the doctor can deal with the spacey wacey part

I'm dreading it. I have a horrible suspicion that, in order to let off steam after producing lots of serious dramas, Davies will use Doctor Who to be even sillier than he was before, and series 14 will be even worse than series 1. Series 1 had a few good episodes: The Unquiet Dead, Dalek and Father's Day, and Christopher Eccleston was great as the Ninth Doctor, but the rest of the series was more like a parody of Doctor Who.
