  • Sahara desert 2 day tour.
Join us as we take you on our 2 day Sahara desert tour.
Starting with our hotel pick up at 6am and then on for about an hour and 40 minutes drive to reach El Jem.
The Amphitheatre of El Jem could seat 35,000 spectators.
Whereas the Colosseum in Rome could seat about 50,000 spectators and the ruined theatre of Capua were larger.
The amphitheatre at El Djem was built by the Romans under proconsul Gordian, who was acclaimed emperor at Thysdrus around 238 and was mainly used for gladiator shows and small-scale chariot races.
Until the 17th century, it remained more or less whole. From then on its stones were used for building the nearby village of El Djem and transported to the Great Mosque in Kairouan.
At a tense moment during struggles with the Ottomans who used cannons to flush rebels out of the amphitheatre.
The ruins of the amphitheatre were declared a World Heritage Site in 1979. It hosts the annual El Djem International Symphony Festival.
After about an hour to free roam the coliseum it was time to board the coach and head off to what our guide said was part of the star wars set, arriving around 2 hours later to a set of steps (not very impressive)
Then just a short drive to meet a traditional berber family, which was very interesting and a great experience. This was only a short stop of roughly 30 minutes.
Shortly after we arrived at a hotel for lunch, then a few shopping stops as well as cash machine stops.
Before arriving to drop off from the camel and quad bikes we made another stop to purchase the headscarf needed for the camel and quads.
Arriving at our overnight hotel around 5pm and our evening meal was booked in for 8pm.
Dinner is a buffet style and you have use of the pool so don't forget to take your swimwear.
    Day 2.
Starting the day with a 4am courtesy call for everyone to be down for breakfast at 4:30am and back on the coach by 5am to head to a salt lake to watch the sunrise.
This salt lake is the 3rd largest in the world.
There are a few areas to pull in but we just got dumped at the side of the road. The sunrise was beautiful.
Then it was back on the coach to pick up the jeep for the sand dunes drive.
Absolutely loved this and being a pinball was so much fun. Definitely recommend a Sahara desert drive.
Just past the sand dunes, we arrived at tatooine, and if you're a star wars fan then I'm sure you'll appreciate this spot.
Here you can purchase some souvenirs or admire the architecture of the structures.
Once again it was time to get back on the coach for our final stop at Kairouan.
Kairouan is a city in northern Tunisia’s inland desert. It became a powerful trading hub and center of Islamic scholarship in the 9th century, when Aghlabid emirs ruled Kairouan and built many of its monuments.
The Great Mosque, on the edge of the medina, with its antique columns and imposing minaret, dates from this period and is a major pilgrimage site. For Muslims, 7 trips here are said to equal one hajj to Mecca.
