It was great to meet you at the expo Mort, I was the one who had my wife and daughter with me. And I was so excited to see in the video that you guys thought my JRPG book gift was cool!
Still have my childhood NES and a handful of games that I’ve had since the age of 5 or so.. the memories of playing those with my brother, my family, showing friends Castlevania 3 for the first time, getting Mario 3 as a gift from my aunt when I was in the hospital… If I was ever ready to let go of my games, I don’t think I would have the heart to let that stuff go. And if I did, there would certainly be a period of grieving afterward.
I knew something reflective was coming when I saw that “one last thing” pop up and yet I still was not prepared for it. I’m coming up on one the year anniversary of my dad passing and I’ve got all sorts of things swirling through my head, from memories, to grief, to words spoken and unspoken, and everything in between. As always, exceptional video, Mort.
Looked like a fun time dude! You got too hang with the cool kids or…maybe they did? 😂Sweet pickups too! They always say you can’t go home dude…going back to the areas you have childhood memories in usually speaks true to that statement. Love the retrospective at the end dude. 🤙🏻
“Celebrate the past, but break out if it.” Truer words have never been spoken. I think this last quote will resonate with many people, especially those who are looking to either downsize their collection, or if they don’t enjoy the hobby so much anymore as they get older. I literally see this all the time at my store. People who clearly love, older games, but struggle with collecting. Great video good sir!

Oh man. So far this is my favorite of all your videos. Just when I think I am watching a con video you hit me with the last part. It makes me think a lot why I collect NES games. I think because growing up me and my brother play together a lot. Every time I play one or just even walk by them I remember those times. My collecting is emotional attachment . You are right it is ok to let it go. I don't get to see my brother often because of living a couple of hours away and he has some health issue and doesn't travel well, but I called him after watching this and set up some time to hang out. Thanks Mort for videos that make you think about just life.
Great video dude. You editing is on point as well as your vibe. You treat ppl with respect and ppl show it back. I love the ending of this video. Especially with the driving in silence at the very end. You have a great vision for your videos and execute it great as well. 🎉
Excellent video! I hope Dan and Elisa post their 1st panel on here. I would love to see it. That's cool you included your grandparents house in the video. Sometimes we need to remember where we came from, but you are absolutely correct, we can’t live there. Take the time to grieve for the things you've lost or things never realized, but remember tomorrow brings new opportunities and more memories to build. Why I collect now? Perhaps there's some trying to recreate the childhood I didn't get to enjoy..or trying to hold onto those things that brought me joy in the darkness..but mostly, the things I love are some of the things my son loves and it's one of the few doors into his special world. Taking him to So Cal gaming Expo was probably on par for him as going to Chuck E Cheese was for me as a child. He was beyond excited. Nothing fills my heart now with joy than seeing that kid smile. Thank you for sharing this.
Hi Mort! That was my wife(red hair) and I (Taco Bell shirt which is hard to see) at 15:42. I went to the JRPG session, had a blast and found a new RPG to try. I remember turning around while you were filming this and telling my wife that I thought people filming would be annoying but you don’t even notice. Specifically Mort you’re super respectful and cognizant of your surroundings and overall just an amazing guy. Love the video.

Awesome video, love your edits. I really enjoyed your ending on this one. It gave me nostalgia for watching GI Joe or MOTU episodes as a kid and them having a message at the end of an episode. Great message.
Awesome video. That con looked like a lot of fun. It is cool to drive by houses that meant something to you growing up. It brings back a ton of memories
Mort, it was a pleasure to meet you on day two. If you don't remember who I was I was the guy answering all the music questions during JRPG life panel. Excellent video! Kind of glad I didn't go that third day because after that deal, you're lucky enough to be married still. I don't think I would of after that 😂😂😂

Love the way you round off this video Mort. You really seem to hold your collection with an open hand. To enjoy it for what it is, but not to let your enjoyment of it, take the place of loves and enjoyments of things that are more important. It's such a healthy approach.
"That's kind of it for me" is essentially the jinx of spending at cons. I had that moment at SEGE where there was an hour left and I still had a good chunk of my spending budget left. I left with an empty wallet.

You're not selling your collection, are you?
Not all of it, but I often think about these types of things and felt that the connection between old home and renovated homes had an interesting metaphorical connection.
@@MortsGarage I can definitely understand. I just recently helped my parents move into the home they'll likely live in for the rest of their lives. It's a lovely place, but there is a lot of emotions attached to it!
So are you suggesting you’re going to sell your collection to Caleb? 😂😂😂
Nope :)
@@MortsGarage you already said your kids may not want it and you’re not going to force it on them. Idk Mort may be some good content here haha
@@njdevilaje3879 while not all, I have little trickles of downsizing content coming very soon
