  • With the summer and high heat my Portable Air Conditioner stopped blowing cold air today. It’s a Hisense Dual Hose 8000 BTU model number AP55023HR1GD.
    I did some troubleshooting before disassembling the unit:
    1. With unit disconnected from the outlet held down the power button for 30 s (this will discharge any residual current and reset the unit), then plugged the unit back in, turn it on, but nothing happened.
    2. Set the unit to 61 F and fan at high, let it run for at least 30 min - this will set the unit in Supercool mode. Again for me, nothing happened.
    3. Switch to different modes and let it run. Didn’t work either.
    4. Power cycle the unit. No success
    Upon trying all the steps, I went ahead and disassembled the unit and found the issue.
    As a reminder, ALWAYS UNPLUG THE UNIT FROM POWER OUTLET BEFORE DISASSAMBLY. ELECTRICITY CAN KILL YOU. IF YOU DON’T KNOW OR ARE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH WHAT YOU PLAN TO DO, DON’T DO IT. THE RISK IS YOURS. THIS FOR INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY.

    I will definitely look into this and report back. For the last few weeks mine hasn't been blowing cold air but I am not home often so I wasn't sure if I was imagining it or not. Definitely an issue with the compressor not kicking in compared to before. Thank you for the video.. hopefully this helps me fix my problem!

    Sorry to bother, I'm sure you get a lot of questions! Have you ever had water leaking out of the block on the end of the cord before? My Hisense turned off one day and I had water seeping out from the cord near the test & reset buttons (but there's no water that spilled on it - it's far from windows and any water source besides humidity). Despite letting the plug dry in rice for a few days, my unit still won't power on. I plan on replacing the cord itself, but I'm worried if any other portion of the unit could've been damaged and if the new cord could possibly end up leaking water in the future.

    • @strykergaming_ngadgets

      I assume you are talking about the AC plug circuit at the end of the plug in cable. If water some how got into it, that will not be the condensation from inside the AC, unless your wall plug is way lower than the AC unit itself and you have a hole in the accumulation pan and water kind off leaked along the cable, not inside the cable. Well the plug circuit has a solenoid and a circuit board - these can get damaged by the water. Damaging the plug circuit will not affect the AC unit, the unit will simply shot off. If it's still not turning on, change the cable. Hope this helps

    • @Flawestruck
      @Flawestruck 10 днів тому +1

      @@strykergaming_ngadgets Yes, that's right! It's the circuit part at the end of the cable. My wall plug is about 8 inches off the ground, so the majority of the cord is on the floor. I'll keep that in mind and see if I can hang the cord up higher after replacing it (just as a precaution). Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I greatly appreciate it.

      So, if the compressor kick in and the fans are spinning, everything seems to be working but no cold air, chances are you have a refrigerant leak. If out of warranty get a new one, fixing a leak in a portable AC costs more than a new unit.

    Hello friend, I have couple questions for, first of all, I don’t know why, but I think you can speak Russian as well, if yes - please answer, if no - never mind. The second question is, I have almost the same ac like yours, it’s also Hisense, but I have a different problem. So I can hear that the compressor is working, but it still no cold air. I think the refrigerant (freon gas) needs to be recharged. Maybe you know how to do that? Because I’m not sure which freon should I buy, and how to properly recharge it. Thanks for the answer!

    • @strykergaming_ngadgets
      @strykergaming_ngadgets  2 місяці тому +2

      Hi there. No, I don't speak russian. To answer your other questions, if everything is working but no cold air is coming out, the unit most probably has a leak and it's low on refrigerant. Recharging the unit without appropriate tools and equipment is not a DIY job. These units do not have a recharge port/valve, so fixing the leak and recharging costs more than a new unit. If your unit has a leak and you are out of warranty, discard it and get a new one. Thank you for watching.

      @@ngjty It sounds like the evaporator coil. Usually main reasons of freezing is restricted airflow due to coils being dirty or fans not working. • @strykergaming_ngadgets
      @strykergaming_ngadgets  2 місяці тому

      The unit should have 2 fans: one for the evaporator coil on top where the cold air comes out, another for the condenser coil to keep the compressor temperature down (bottom one). Make sure these fans, especially the bottom one are not turning off. These units are designed with electronic pressure/temperature monitoring in order to protect the compressor, so if the fan will turn off, it will signal the compressor to turn off too. Also there should be a temperature sensor attached to the pipe next to the condenser, check it make sure it's not clogged. If this is not the case, check the drain pans for water accumulation. Excessive moisture will fill those pans pretty fast, so to avoid flooding the compressor will stop while fans will still run to evaporate that water. It might be a failing capacitor too not providing enough juice for the compressor to run smoothly. I don't think it's the main board. Hope this helps

    what if the ac (also a hisense, not the same model, however) turns on but isn’t blowing ANY air? i swear it has a mind of its own & sometimes it will blow cold air when in cool mode, sometimes it’ll blow air as if it’s in fan mode & sometimes it just doesn’t blow any air. i always try resetting, unplugging, cleaning the filters, emptying the excess water inside & still nothing🤦🏻‍♀️

    • @strykergaming_ngadgets
      @strykergaming_ngadgets  Місяць тому +1

      These units have 3 sensors: one on the grill behind the filter in front of the evaporator coil ; two inside attached to the pipes next to condenser coil and next to evaporator coil. The ones inside monitor the refrigerant temperature and adjust the flow accordingly. Check if they're not dirty, especially the one next to the condenser, there is no filter there, and use some air dusters to clean them.

So i start my unit up the compressor instantly kicks in cold air comes out but after 2 minutes the compressor turns off with a kick and doesnt come on anymore. What could be the problem ?? Try these steps first
      ua-cam.com/video/EJYEPsAkxWw/v-deo.html
      If you are not getting any error messages, check and drain the unit. There might be water accumulated, the unit will start and then to avoid flooding will shut off.
      Pay attention to the fans, if a fan turns off before the compressor, the issue may be there.
      There is a sensor right in front of the grill and usually it gets dirty pretty fast, you can clean it using a can of compressed air.
      If none of these, it still may be the capacitor. The capacitor acts as a small battery to give the compressor that extra juice it needs to start and run smoothly. A bad capacitor might still hold some charge, but not enough to make the compressor operate normally. Hope this helps. Let me know if you were able to fix the issue and thank you for watching.

      @mattrobins3721 The primary function of the capacitor is to help start and run the compressor. When the compressor starts, you will hear a kick and a continuous buzz. ua-cam.com/video/EJYEPsAkxWw/v-deo.html
      If everything is running and unit not cooling or not colling as it used to, then best case scenario there might be an obstruction in the tubes and setting the unit to supercool mode for a couple of hours might clear it and have the refrigerant flow properly; worst case scenario - unit has a leak and it's loosing refrigerant and eventually will stop cooling completely. Fixing a leak and refiling a portable AC unit costs more than buying a new one.

If it's within the return window, just return it and get a new one. Also most of these units come with a 2 year warranty in case you cannot return it.

      I agree. A single hose unit comes with one hose that vents the air outside, and they are less efficient, because they suck the air from inside to cool the unit, thus creating a lot of static pressure. A dual hose unit, like the one in the video comes with two hoses: one sucking the air from outside, cooling the unit and then venting it outside. Both hoses connect to outside. Check the video at 10:15 min after the repair is done. Thank you for watching
