    The reason the shuttle times are in the afternoon is to get you to stay another day. The key is to get there around 11 am which will give you time to get in the room, shower, get your clothes to the laundry and hop on the shuttle with no worries about when you come back because you are staying the night.
    But, thanks for the heads up, now I know to skip this place.

    I watched the PCT first and now while watching the AT thinking about what Dixie says in her vlogging video. She really evolved as far as how and when stuff gets filmed. In these early videos while still being polite, folks have this "I didn't signed up for your hiking show" look on their faces. I'm not a vlogger, but it's a great thing to keep in mind as take pictures and video. I love all your content Dixie. I'm so inspired.

    I supposed to of stayed at the TOG but missed their 8:00 p.m. check in. I ended up sleeping in my truck at the trail head. I prefer the Hiker Hostel in Dahlonega. Bunks are $18.00 with a homemade breakfast. They will pick you up and shuttle you anywhere along the AT in Georgia. Very reasonable priced.

    When I stayed at Top of Georgia Sir-Packs-Alot was very helpful. He sat down with me an did a "Shake Down" of my gear [Yeah, I know, I should have done that at Neels Gap]. There was another guy [owner] there who was kind of crabby, and not very helpful. Anyway, overall the stay was good, and you couldn't beat the hot epsom salt foot bath with marbles [DO IT!!], along with the overview of what to expect on the trail. I wish there would have been a place like this earlier on the trail.

    Kinda funny the Hostel was bogus. I hiked the AT many years ago and on my 9th day I slept under a truck on the ball field of a school in a small town. ( don't remember which). There were no hostels and the shelters were rustic as in "I slept on the ground" they were so uncomfortable. funny how many folks you are with. We hiked for days a saw no one. Things have really changed.

      +LUIS AROCHO Neels Gap and then there is Three Eagles Outfitters 78 Siler Rd, Franklin, NC 28734. TEO actually picked me up from my hotel, drove me to their store, then drove me back when I was done shopping (at no cost to myself). Their prices were not bad either.

    Can confirm about ToG hostel- also thru-hiked in 2015, though I only stopped there. Bob was a dick. Charged for everything (but coffee), some (weird) dude working there that wasn't being paid, they close at 7pm- no tv, wifi, or check-in, etc after. Bad vibe overall. I think it's still the same owner(s)- stay away.

    That's sad to hear. I wondered what it was like to stay there. I watched most of his videos as he opened it up. It seems like now it's all geared towards making money rather than for the love of the trail. I hope he corrects it, or maybe it's not him and someone who works for him that was misguided. I mean of all people he should know the value of a resupply and how many people on the trail provide shuttles for free as part of being a trail angel.

  • @Riceblox2000

    I remember when that hostel was trying to open. The guy that started it was asking for donations and equipment to get it going. So he got charity to start it, but doesn’t sound like good karma as they are not too charitable to the hiker. Profit is what matters. Hopefully that’s changed somehow

      Why would people _compete_ to bring in smelly, hungry, needy hikers? That's what I don't get. Also, it must be just that one section, I've not seen that in any other hiking video.

  • @SinSensor
    @SinSensor 9 років тому +4

    I don't know, but I'm just assuming that that hotel you talked about would cost about four times more than the $10 extra to ride the shuttle the next day. Rather than suggest that people stay at the hotel, why not just suggest that they remember that the shuttle only runs on the day of the day? But, I get that they rubbed you wrong. You are right, it should've been stipulated.

    • @ZEPPELIN2739
      @ZEPPELIN2739 8 років тому

      +Steven Boyd It can be cheaper to stat in a hotel on the trail if you have a large enough group of people to shack up with, but overall it is way cheaper to stay in a hostel. Popped my hostel cherry at Top of Georgia, and I never went back to staying in a hotel on the trail again.

    MM, i don't get why they would have to give you a shuttle the next day after you stayed. It's clearly for the people arriving there and staying, not the people who want to go to town next day and then leave. I mean, they have to calculate the amount of people coming and i think that people just arriving should have priority because they are coming from the frickin wilderness.
