Emilie , another great video. Your photos prove the point of having a camera that you enjoy to have with you all the time. Leaving your camera at home and telling everyone you have the best is not going to give any photos to prove your point.
I have the OM-1 as well as the 1x. For myself it’s the 1x. The built in battery pack , ability to flip to vertical and have a new set of buttons is great. It balances it better with the bigger lenses. For myself it’s the 300 f4 with the 1.4 TC. I hope we see the 1x v2 If I want to go lighter it’s the 40-150 with the TC in my pocket and the OM-1. That’s is my walkabout set up.
Thank you for your added message about the need we all have to get out and engage with nature, particularly in our current situation. We need to pursue beauty, as well as justice, equality, and truth. I always enjoy your photography insights!

A very sensible video, Emilie, and I totally agree with you. I’ve been using Olympus since my OM2, SLR, 1980s! Used other makes later, ended up again with Olympus and now OMS. Why? Weight, pure and simple. I can carry one of my 3 Oly’s anywhere and use the same lenses for all, whittling them down to two when out and about, again due to weight.

I looked up old files and used DXO-3 to remove the noise, I was very surprised with the results. Old cameras are still in the game for many fine photowalks, the best camera is the one you have with you. Ton
A very timely video - after lots of research and watching many UA-cam videos I decided that micro 4/3 and Olympus/OM System was right for me. As a relative beginner in digital photography, I couldn't justify the price of an OM-1 so I decided to buy an OM-5 but imagine my surprise when I looked at the OM System website yesterday and found the OM-1 with the 12-40 F2.8 lens at a similar price to the OM-5! I've ordered the OM-1 kit along with the M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm F4-5.6 R that was also at half price 😊
The best camera is the one you have with you! I can have the best setup, but what's the point if ... like today, after 3 hours of hiking with the husky, my om-1 II + 90 macro was nicely at home in the cabinet
My take is, and I've only ever had MFT, you get the camera that fits the situation. More than anything, you have to know what kind of wildlife, where you will be mostly shooting, when you will be shooting, how far you will be walking and if you will be static. And after that, just pick your camera.
Excellent post and spectacular closing! I'm a fan of OM System and I'd like to know your thoughts on the following: I have an OM-5 and I want to buy the 150-600. Will I be able to take advantage of its full potential or is it preferable to wait a while and raise money to buy an OM-1 along with the objective? Thank you so much for your advice!
Thanks for another great vid Emilie. I finally acquired an OM1 II to go with my OM-5 duo. Traded in an EM1X. I'm looking forward to bonding with the OM1 II.
A friend of mine from the Faeroe Islands visited me last weekend. He work part time freelance wildlife photographer and uses the OM-1 with the 150-400 f/4.5 lens. He has even sold some photos to National Geographics. It was quite inspiring to look through his bird photos. I have the OM-1 but I can not afford the great white lens!
10:17 Well now I feel a bit better about getting some condensation on my OM-1 a few minutes ago. 😂 I hear you about megapixels too. I'm not going to deny that 25+ MP would be beneficial in some situations, but people who constantly chase higher and higher megapixel count are what I'd ungraciously describe as 'camera buyers' rather than 'photographers'.
Sault Emilie! I watch your channel frequently but don't comment often. This video feels like you were reading my mind though.😀 Today I was thinking about my hand issues and how much my Nikon Z cameras are killing me on longer treks. For short trips around my town, it's not a problem, but I often travel. I don't care about megapixels. The problem is my genre is not only wildlife. It's mostly street photography. So the OM-1 for example, seems like overkill. I have some other m43 bodies and was thinking of selling and getting either the new Z50II or the OM-5. Do you have a chance to let me know your thoughts on the OM-5 for my use case? Again, the goal is to cover both street photography and large birds but be easy on my hands while traveling. Thank you so much for your great content!
@@EmilieT I live in the same city with KEH. I can certainly see if they have a copy. So the OM-5 can serve for wildlife/large birds? That would be perfect then, I think. The size is great for street as well. Thank you!

The OM-1 is the best camera for my wildlife photography needs with the budget Olympus 75-300 mm lens. It is not only compact, and lightweight but easy to carry around.

@@EmilieT Thanks. Had glanced at the OM-5 and I really liked the size. Hadn't thought of used. Maybe I'll just rent a 2nd body for an upcoming trip this summer.
@@chuckdarney Trying out the camera before you buy it to see if it is a good fit is a great idea. I like my OM-5 because it is super small and still has a lot of the function I need. Now if you are looking to get a back up for wildlife, I would lean towards a used OM-1 if budget is an issue.
Hi Emilie. Yes. everything you say in this clip is so true. Different cameras for different jobs. For me as an amateur wildlife and nature photographer and videographer I have three different cameras - OM System OM-1, Lumix G9m2 and Sony a1. Particularly when I go overseas I normally take M4/3rds gear due to the overall weight and the speed and ease of use. My quick go to system is the OM-1 and 150-400mm pro lens along with the x1.4 TC. I have a question about focus stacking / bracketing. I read that if the Differential is set to say 5 the distance between each focus point changes very slightly between an aperture setting of say f2.8 and say f9. That is at f2.8 the distance is between two focus points is slightly less at f2.8 than at f9. .?? The comment stated that this can cause some soft areas between each photo which also depends on the number of shots taken. Above all for me it is about getting out and having fun 📷📸🎥😊
Yes that is correct, that is why a lower differential is better but very often you will need a 5 differential. So you inspect your photos and make sure that the settings work.
Thank you! I enjoyed every second 😊 Photography has become all about tech stuff for many reasons. But the downside with OM is that it only manages down to -10 C. I heavily damaged my OM-5 because the temperature dropped down to -25C. That's why I use my Canon heavy gear during the winter 😊
Thank you Dennis. I live in New Hampshire and use my OM SYSTEM cameras in super low temperatures and never had an issue. I am sorry you had trouble with your OM-5.
Thanks, I live in Östersund (Sweden) near the so called polar circle. Interesting, is OM-1/OM-1 II more resistant against coldness than the OM-5? Later this evening I will go out and see if I can catch the Aurora!

Not the full question..it depends on how you shoot. Some folks don’t go far, or are in vehicles or stands..large lenses (probably the most important) and big cameras may be a perfect fit for their purposes/uses. Others may travel for several hours on foot, up mountains etc and in those cases small (volume is important) and light might be best for their uses. Personally I find most m43 set ups these days too large for the latter…or at least for what I prefer to use, so I’m always challenged by finding small gear. All good points you raised, but many folks also have different needs.
I totally agree with you. The AF of both Sony and Canon are much better than the AF of Om-system. the Om-1 MK II in particular has AF problems. it is absolutely not accurate. Om-sytem should take a closer look at this. Almost all cameras are resistant to splash water these days, and weight is no longer really a problem. a Canon R6 Markt II with an Rf 100-500 with a 1.4 extender weighs only 7 grams more than an Om-1 MK II with the 150-400. The R6 MK II also has a much larger sensor that captures much more light and also has slightly more pixels (5 megapixels). the price is also considerably cheaper than the Om system combination mentioned.
Best camera is one with which you can take pleasing photos. (That is much more about the photographer than the gear.) I have a tight budget so I have to find good enough gear instead of getting the best cameras and lenses. In order to get close enough the subject, so that it fills the image, I need especially long enough tele lenses, and for small subjects macro lens (or extension tubes, close-up filters). My main camera is Olympus Pen E-PL8, My macro lens is M.Zuiko 30mm f3.5. I have plastic fantastic (M.Zuiko 40-150mm f4-5.6) and several manual tele lenses, also vintage lenses giving nice character to images. My gear is not weather sealed but neither am I. If it rains I wait for the end of it. 😀Yeah, but I keep my eyes open looking for some better gear, affordable, weather sealed (mainly from used market), and with even better (IB)IS than my E-PL8 has, thought it's already awesome. I also have a 15 years old Canon EOS 500d. It's a nice and simple camera. (The camera body did cost me less than $80.)

Great video and discussion , yes some people are megapixel crazy 😜. Love my OM1m2…. I did notice you are missing the flash cap on the front of your camera…I wish OM system built that part better, I’ve lost mine multiple times and I don’t even use that function.
Hi Emilie I partially agree with you, especially regarding megapixels. 20/25 megapixels is more than enough. Canon's flagship camera The R1 has only 25 megapixels. That in itself says more than enough. more megapixels also means more misery. Om-system could do something about the bad AF performance of the Om-1 MK II, because there is room for significant improvement. Perhaps the problems can be solved with a software update. Other than that I completely agree with you. It's great that Trump has become the new president of the US. otherwise you can always emigrate to the Netherlands and live in Amsterdam😂😂😂😂. Greatings from the Netherlands
This is true to a point as that camera for most people is their phone. But I don’t think a phone is going to cut it for fast moving birds in flight shots
I encourage you to rewatch the video. That is not what I said. I said it is the best for me. I said I agreed with the National Geographic article that called it the best camera for wildlife photography. I also showed articles that mentioned other cameras. I gave you the reasons why for me it is the best camera and I told you to make up your own opinion based on your need.
OK, I get that you are an ambassador for OM Systems. But listing each and every argument for your OM-1 in a sort of in-your-face manner is not especially convincing. Yes, you might argue for a system like an MFT camera and its lenses that aren't as heavy as, say, a FF camera. However, if you are often shooting in low light situations where with a small sensor you don't even have a chance to get your picture with a sufficiently fast exposure time you might want to opt for the FF system. Different people may put different value on this decision and that's fine. But what I found really questionable: How can you make a video about the best camera for wildlife photography and not speak out one single time the word 'autofocus' that is one of the most essential features for wildlife photographers? I don't need a video that is ranting about how megapixels or the price of a camera doesn't make up a good tool for wildlife when at the same time you don't talk at all about the autofocus capabilities of a camera.
I love your videos. Photography is a great way to get out and enjoy nature. With that said, today’s video ended with a quasi political statement. I can get that on FOX, MSNBC, CNN, etc. I was hoping to find one place where I didn’t have to hear about this election or any election. Today this was not that place. Unfortunately.
She's a woman, LGBT and an immigrant. Put yourself in her shoes. She hit the trifecta of hate in this election. I feel for her and if you don't you should consider your beliefs.
I switched from my big, bulky, heavy system I've been using since 1989 to OM System for all the same reasons and loving it. Thanks for sharing.

I partially agree with you, especially regarding megapixels.
I just can’t afford full frame for wildlife. It costs me too much in terms of the weight of all that gear too! I’ll stick with MFT.
I agree :)
The absolute best camera for wildlife is the camera you have with you.
Very true!
This is true to a point as that camera for most people is their phone. But I don’t think a phone is going to cut it for fast moving birds in flight shots
Have you ever considered teaching in a Canadian university or college? You might be more comfortable up here.
I actually have and I should say I am :)
Mega Pixels don’t count anymore,as you said they just take up a lot of space on the card.
It is :)
I love olympus but it's not fair for a brand ambassador to tell your camera is the best
I am with you, after this election, we must get out in nature and breathe. Gotta feeling it’s going to be a difficult 4 years. Time will tell
Yes. hang in there and make sure to find your community too. It is so important to find supportive and like-minded people.
Trump to get rid of the deep state
I love your videos.
Agree. With your incredible talents you could most certainly find work anywhere in the world.
She's a woman, LGBT and an immigrant. Put yourself in her shoes. She hit the trifecta of hate in this election. I feel for her and if you don't you should consider your beliefs.
