    It's time for Malaysia to do some self reflection. Even Philippines is improving in table tennis and has defeated both of our male players. On the women's side even destroyed Ho Ying 4-0. I am not sure what is the situation of table tennis is in the Philippines, may some of our pinoy friends can explain. But from what I observe now, just like Malaysia, Philippines also rarely send players out to play on international tournament so I believe financial budget is also one of their concerns. If so, how come they still can develop such good players? Malaysia should learn from Philippines how they use limited budget and international opportunities but still not hindered to train such good players
    This Misal guy come out from no where and defeated Nguyen Anh Tu who is a SEA Games silver medalist, as well as thai and Malaysian players.

      From my observation are quite different; Too many fast drive and no tempo, error on receiving and it is a lot and mental weakness. Easily disappointed just a big,big problem every players should change. Come-on.play for happy strategies & winning the match. Players should make their opponent feel down not you as a Msian players down. Same result will be if you send them out for play.Take note for that

      @@nilamar7019 Mental weakness is spot on. Actually I don't know why but mental illness just seem to be such a Malaysian thing, not just a Malaysian table tennis thing. You see even for badminton our players are mentally weak.
      We have world class badminton players but mentally speaking they are not strong. But here for table tennis and especially for this tournament, playing happy is easier said than done. It's not a regular tournament, is a tournament than would decide whether if Malaysia can finally go to the Olympics after three decades. Of course players will be nervous and feel down. But that cannot be helped as you mentioned Malaysian mental is not strong.
      Also one thing you mentioned about no tempo, I think this is not the main fault of the Javen. That is the chopper's main strategy. Even Nguyen Anh Tu and Napat Thanmathikom lost to him 1-4. Surely this lad is doing something right. It will be interesting to see how Izaac Quek fend off against him.

      ok let me give you some points about Philippine table tennis scene. Our love of table tennis is timeless, we keep dreaming and still dreaming till this day that we could have a caliber player that could stand off against international level, when pandemic hits, I think, just my thought, a lot of our local pro players focus on developing deep technical skills including phycological on how to approach the game. And up until now, they still experimenting a lot. If you watch previous sea games in Singapore when Sir Richard Gonzalez grab the silver medal, a lot of young athletes and coaches started to gain confidence, that we can level up against major foes'. I guess from that moment our community started to shift on how we approach the game. This is just my observation. God bless team Malaysia! Greetings from Philippines ;)

      I feel like it’s just a playing style problem? Do you have players who play like Misal that your natl team practices with? And it’s just one game. We can’t really conclude anything. And if we look at other things, like for example the recent WTT youth in puerto princesa, your players were better than ours. Almost all your players won against our players. As for the TT scene in Phil, it’s getting better. But we only have one really really good player at a time and they get to train abroad sometimes.

      And who shall it be? Choong Javen has been consistently reaching the finals of the national championships and won most of them. Who is better than him now? You simply go find one MSSM player or senior to play him I doubt they can even take a set off him. The only person who can possibly beat him now is Wong Qi Shen and nobody else can defeat these two now. Who do you want to find to replace them? And you better be lucky that Beh Lee Wei still coaching. With no money given to table tennis in Malaysia I doubt any "better" coach would wanna come.

      @@starking1187 exactly. We need sponsors so that we can get better players and coaches. Current line up just won't cut it.

    • @starking1187
      @starking1187 29 днів тому

      @@hryhry4922 No I don't actually agree with your statement. Javen is just 23 and Qi Shen is just 21. To throw them out like that just cuz they can't win is totally absurd and not to mention you can't find a single replacement for them. If you can and wanna throw them out I have nothing to say but at the moment, they are the best in the country and nobody can even come close to beating them. Many players only start to reach their peak at 27-28 years old but you wanna to throw them out now when they still quite juniors.
      And just for your info Izaac Quek is arguably the best player in SEA who has defeated top players in the world like Mattias Falck and Sharath Kamal almost lost to this Filipino player. He needed to play 7 sets against him so obviously this guy is no joke. Thai and Vietnam also cannot beat him so why the fuss?
      Sponsors won't come. Why? Because our table tennis is not strong enough to convince them to invest. If they don't invest we can't get better coaches or training, we also don't get to play outside. Players can only rely on themselves to win and prove to the sponsors they are worthy. If Javen and Qi Shen cannot do it, then I don't expect anyone else in the country to be able to do it and that is the cold hard truth.

      @@starking1187 thank you for not agreeing.
      we STILL need new breed of players and coaches.yes, these two are the best we have, at the moment. But for Malaysian players to have a decent chance playing in Olympic, we need BETTER players, or these two having BETTER playing style.
      There are still young but as you may disagree, I do not see how they can improve further unless they have better coach, with better coaching method. As I saw from the match between Qi Shen against Thai, the Thai was not intimidating much but Qi Shen committed errors one after another.
      Singaporean Isaac currently the best player within SEA region, yes. How old is he? How come he can perform better than our players?
      Look at current young world-class players like Harimoto siblings, Felix brothers, to name a few; they have WORLD-CLASS coach and that really made the difference.

      @@hryhry4922 don't wish for gold and diamond when we can't even get plastic. We can't get the opportunity to play outside let alone have better coach. Can we hire better coaches? Yes sure why not but who's gonna pay? Nobody. Why? Because nobody wanna sponsor? Why nobody wanna sponsor because we are not strong. We never ever have top player in table tennis. Our best player never even enter top 100 in the world. Singapore on the other other hand had so many world class players. Even beat china and to win world champ. That's why their country very generous to sponsor players and give funding not like Malaysia. We all know we need sponsor but easier said than done
      Again, no point comparing to other country player. We know our player is not good as them but that doesn't mean they're weak at need to be replaced. Even if you wanna replace you also have to find candidate so I throw back to you WHO???? I ask you so many times but you also cannot give a name because u urself also dk who is better than them. If you want to train them to be better at their current level that make sense but not throw them away completely cuz it's even harder to train those weaker ones. But I hope you don't think our player is weak just because they can't win. In fact our players now are much much better than 5-10 years ago. Now we can upset top players we can never imagine that years ago.

    this PH is a cheating player! That ball at 5:17 is the side of the table not even the edge and he has the audacity to pretend to apologize. You can see the trajectory go straight down. Why did Javen not protest it?? Why both umpires blind or something??? Even his serves are damn illegal!!

      The heck are you on about? Are you that salty Javen lost? I really had to replay that shot time and time again, even playing it back at the slowest speed. To me it looked good. If both judges ruled it as fair play and Javen didn't even protest the call, then I'd put more weight on the people on the floor declaring it as a point for John Russel.
      Oh and that's rich, pot calling the kettle black eh. Why are you ignoring Javen's serves that disapper behind his shoulder when the ball is comming down after the toss? That's pretty much illegal as well according to the rules. I've lost count at how many times I swore on my screen watching players like Wand Chuqin and Adner'd Lind etc not get calle for clear illegal seres. Fact kf the matter is, this ain't on the players but up to the WTT itself to call out, enforce and penalize players illegal servs. Yet nothing is done about it.

    • @starking1187
      @starking1187 15 днів тому

      @@rooky3526 I don't have to be salty for the lost as that PH is obviously something. He topped his group by defeating another Malaysian player, a Vietnamese SEA games silver medalist and a Thai young upcoming player. Even almost defeated Izaac Quek in the Semi-Finals. But cheating is cheating. If you have replayed the point so many times even in slow-mo and still concluded that was a good shot, you are either a PH fan or someone just as ignorant as the two umpires on court. I suggest you put on your earphones and turn it all the way up to max volume then watch again. You can hear a VERY OBVIOUS loud thud at that was the sound of metal being hit and its obviously the legs of the table. An edge won't make that sound. It's not even a discussion on whether it hit the edge on not. Heck, it didn't even hit the entire table surface.
      If you want to talk to me about illegal service I high recommend you to go to Ander's Lind UA-cam channel and watch his video where he talks about illegal service. He has answered your first point about umpires doing nothing about serves. Being a pro player he has spoken with many umpires and he basically revealed that the umpires are cowards that do not call out services even though they know is illegal cuz they don't want to disturb the flow of play. That's why all players just take advantage of it. Javen's serve is already pretty standard, almost a saint compared to some of those you mentioned like Wang Chuqin or Anders Lind. If those guys on the top are fine, then Javen should be good as well. But it is certainly nothing compared to this PH player. The PH player serves are lowly tossed more than 30 degrees backwards and blocked by the body. It's 100% illegal and clearly visible to the naked eye and no room for interpretation, heck even Wang Chuqin's serve look like a saint in front of this guy. There's no possible way one can defend his serves anymore as it is too obvious, the only way to "defend" him is to pull others down together with him. Even Izaac Quek complained multiple times in the semi but the umpires does nothing. I would only argue that Javen pushed the limits of these rules and nothing super crazy.
      Anders has also mentioned that the service rule of table tennis is too rigid and unreasonable. And if the rules were the be strictly implemented, EVERY player, regardless or rank or nation, would have an illegal service. Any service is practically impossible to make an absolutely legal service under the current ITTF service handbook. To me it's a matter of whether the rules have been exploited enough to gain absolute advantage and it's obvious that the PH player definitely did. And if these kinds of serves is also ignored, then I highly doubt for the need of the two umpires to be there at all. They are basically decorations at this point.

      @@starking1187All of that to basically say what? Yeah, it's illegal but it's more illegal than others. Seriously, srew off with that. Is it illegal or is it not? I put the blame on the purely on the umpires. Period. You don't get to sit there and interpret what's illegal or not when there are already rules in place. Where's the freakin line then? What, are we just gonna hedge our bets on how strict the umpires are? You seriously have no legs to stand on with this. Either umpires call out what's illegal period! Or change the rules so that it's fair for everyone. It's actually hilarious, you sit their and condone the legality of serves. I don't care what Anders Lind has to say. They either fix this shit about the rules so it's fair for everyone or it's just going to be a free for all on how far they can get away with illegal serves. Eff outta here with that bizz.
      That clear metallic sound isn't as clear as you're making it out to be. Try harder to shift the narrative again bud. And I'd like to reiterate. Why isn't Javen protesting if it was so god dang, without a doubt, cut and dry, black and white a side hit rather than an edge hit? His body lanaguage didn't even show a hint of confusion or questionig to the umpires' call. I'm pretty sure he would've heard that "clear" metallic sound (spoiler: it's hard to discern even with noise cancelling headphones on, I even doubt it was a metallic hit at all). And don't give me that "he was so focused" bs (if you ever go there) or whatever. If you play table tennis you'd know and call it out, period, especially if you're playing to win. Doubt my eyes and ears if you may, but all people on that floor on that day, in that time and on that play.....played, wtinessed, heard and called that to be fair for ALL parties involved (players, coaches, umpires) and carried the eff on with narry a complaint of that call. You might've convinced me if the other party are making a fuss out of that call....but nah. Nothing. Played the bext point as if that previous point was an afterthought. You tell me.

      @@rooky3526 Ok at this point there is no need to continue this discussion with you. You are obviously Filipino and normalizing cheating. Heck this probably not even your first time arguing and defending the cheating actions of your players. You are clearly getting emotional here, blaming everybody else and trying hard to cover up the illegal actions of your own fellow countrymen with your flawed logic that: "My players are not at fault, umpires are at fault for not penalizing my player and therefore my player is innocent even if he does an illegal serve. Not my player's fault is the umpires fault for not calling it". Even when facts are brought up to you, you don't want to acknowledge it, continue normalizing cheating actions with more excuses. I'm glad at the end Izaac took this guy down. Player with such behaviors should not deserve to go to the Olympics and should just continue playing on the grassroot level and amateur tournaments where most umpires are just volunteers and not qualified ones. Can cheat all day every day and umpires won't give a damn. Everyone around will also defend him with: "Nobody protests, so its legal."
