Nicely done. Those tighteners should make a world of difference. Now no clanging or banging. Be sure to keep those sawed-off ends of the galvanized carriage bolts. Always can find a use for them (smile). I'm from that era where nothing much gets thrown 😊. Hope you're still on your trip and having fun. Be safe returning home. 👍

The tightener worked great, it was completely quiet! And of course the bolt cutoffs got thrown in the “extras” bin! Jeep only needs a couple things repaired on it, but for now I’m back on the grind at work and I’m way behind on videos...thanks again for hitch tightener idea!

or you can just buy a Uni-strut clamp for $4 at homedepot

That would probably work too…but it’s not nearly as fun as making one!

Ubolt and piece of 3\4 black pipe 10 times faster and easier, just saying!

I’ll have to try making one that way! I made it this way because that’s the material I had on hand

Very interesting design! I would think having it the other way so that it pulls the hitch downwards instead of upwards would put less stress of the metal. What do you think?

That definitely makes sense since down is the natural state of the hitch, I’ll have to try it that way next time! Thanks for the tip! That’s why I make videos, so I can get some input...thanks for watching!

If you have the right size square style u-bolt, they work well for the hitch. And here’s a playlist with both my Cherokees in it👍

Best (anti hitch rattle) idea I've seen so far, imo. This is the one I'm going to build. I'm curious how the threads are holding up. Any deformation? I might add some holes to the bolts for some clips. I'm concerned they may rattle loose and hurt someone. Retightening threads over and over, It's bound to happen eventually. Thanks for the vid.

I e only used it a few times, and the only issue has been that the angle iron has deformed from tightening the bolts. It has worked well for me so far, if you’re going to make one, you just need something that takes the slack out between the hitch and receiver...I’m sure there’s a million different ways to achieve that.

Thanks! It was just something I brainstormed with the scraps I had in the shop, it worked well for what I needed.
