I think it's beautiful that Johnny Cash chose to do a song from St. Paul's perspective. It suits him.

    "Man In White"
I studied at the feet of a master
Gamaliel we called him, the beauty of the law
I was born of the Tribe of Benjamin, I was a Pharisee
And I could quote from memory the Holy Torah
That day that the Nazarene was brought to trial
It was on a Sabbath eve, there was a earthquake when He died
Just another passing preacher who came up from Galilee
Blaspheming trouble-maker, we let Him be crucified
Then I thought that I would hear no more about him
But his friends found his tomb empty
Claimed that he rose from the dead
Then they said he walked among them
With the nail wounds in his hands
That King upon a donkey with a thorn crown on his head
His followers kept growing in great number
And the one that they call Caiaphas mocked us in the judgment hall
And with the Greek name Stephen, we knew the gentiles had come in
I cast my vote against him, he was stoned I saw him fall
Then the friends of the Nazarene became united
And I became enraged then led a slaughter zealously
I found their secret places, they were beaten, they were chained
But some of them were scattered, justified in fearing me
Then the Man in White, appeared to me
In such a blinding light it struck me down
With it's brilliance, took away my sight, then the Man in White
In gentle loving tone spoke to me
And I was blinded so that I might see, the Man in White
But like the wind that blows the scattered sea
From Alexandria to Antioch their congregation grew
I went to the high priest for letters of permission
To go to other cities, to see my mission through
Six days on the hot road to the masters
And just outside the city in the middle of the day
A great unearthly light struck and overpowered me
Prostrate on the hot road, I was blinded were I laid
Then I thought I heard the rushing of great water
And a multitude of angels singing sweet and heavenly
And through the sound of wind, came a voice so soft and kind
Meant for only me to hear, "Saul, why do you persecute me?"
As I lay there on the ground, in my blindness
He asked me once again, and suddenly the voice I knew
So finally I managed, a trembling response
Who are you Lord? I asked him, but I already knew
I am Jesus of Nazareth the voice answered
Arise go to Damascus on the street called Straight will be
A place where you will wait for my servant Ananias
He will open up your eyes, you'll be a witness unto me
So now I live to serve my master
As zealous in his service as I once was as his foe
And keeping his commandments given on Damascus road
I go to all the world, and I let the whole world know
Then the Man in White, appeared to me
In such a blinding light it struck me down
With it's brilliance, took away my sight, then the Man in White
In gentle loving tone spoke to me
And I was blinded so that I might see, the Man in White
And I was blinded so that I might see, the Man in White

This man called John Cash had respect and reverence for the people who compiled the bible. He had great love for Christ himself. It is no accident or by chance that this strongest voice humbles himself when referencing the Lord. All of these arguments about what is in the bible is irrelevant. All power made sure that the basic truths were included in the canon. Love is stronger .. stand up for that and stop chasing after the wind ..we must put our pride away.. me too

teal tee Peter, as of Peter, James, and John, said that what Paul wrote was scripture so I would guess if anyone were mislead by satan it would be you.

2 Peter 3:16 - Peter calls his writings scripture. Galatians 2:9 James, Cephas, & John welcomed Paul and agreed that he should continue to bring the Gospel to the gentiles. Acts 15 - the Jerusalem council agrees with Paul and sent a representative to confirm his teaching. Just a quick few to prove that they accepted Paul.

Mark was written for Peter [according to all church tradition]. Luke compiled the story from the works of others. All of us are commanded to spread the Gospel so there is nothing wrong with work done by others. The 4 Gospel accounts were UNIVERSALLY accepted by the early church including by John's disciple! John's disciple also accepted ALL of Paul's writings so you are going against those trained by the Apostles themselves. Again, you appear to be the one deceived by Satan. P.S. - since the three accounts of the conversion on the road were years apart and to differing ethnic groups it would be more suspect if they were identical in what was described.

What requirement would there be to sit under another apostles disciple to have that disciple accept the teachings of said other apostle. Utter ridiculousness! You have things totally upsidedown! Peter called Paul's writings scripture, John the beloved's disciple, John Chrysostom, accepted his writings as part of his canon of scripture, that pretty much settles it for real Christianity. You claim to be filled with the spirit but want to through out over 1/2 of the new testament? You have just bore witness against yourself as a heretic!

Apparently you cannot read. I said John the beloved's disciple, John Chrysostom, accepted all of Paul's writings. That is published in hundreds of texts and findable on UA-cam as well. There is no true scholar that would say that 2 Peter 3:16 is a fraud as it fits with the surrounding verses and context. The historical church in all of its various forms has accepted that Paul was chosen by God after the ascencion and legal experts have looked at the three accounts within Acts of Paul's conversion and said as I stated, the variation contributes to its trustworthiness. You need to go back to the basics and start studying again for you have been decieved!

fyI, John wrote this song in his hotel room in Tucson back in 1986. He and I were working on his manuscript for The Man In White, a novel about St. Paul that I was editing for Harper & Row. I was a senior religion editor in the Harper & Row office in San Francisco. He would write text for the novel between setups and scenes and I would review and edit in his trailer. One morning he called me down to his hotel room before we went out to the set in the desert, to ask me what I thought about a song he had just written. He wrote it on a yellow legal pad and had even come up with the melody. Then he pulled out his guitar and played it for me. I enjoyed it, a lot. And sitting next to my computer on my desk at home right now is the cassette tape he sent me after he recorded the song as his home studio. We couldn't really come up with a way to use the song for the launch of the novel but if you watch the UA-cam video (one of them) you will see him holding the book with a white cover that we published in 1986. I don't know when John Carter Cash put the song on a CD and published it but now you the rest of the story. Roy M. Carlisle
