Wild China sounds - Dawn chorus in the mountain forests of Yunnan

- As light penetrates through the the cloud forests of Yunnan, the soundscape becomes more lively and lush.
On my recent trip to China I had the privilege of exploring a very remote area on the border with Myanmar. Getting here is complicated and requires a lot of permits, hard work and serious negotiation with the rangers and gatekeepers of this place. While this part of the world is a hotspot of biodiversity, it's also a strategically important area for the authorities. Fortunately I found an excellent fixer and local guide who was able to obtain all the required documents so that I could access the pristine rainforest with my cameras and kit.
At first listen, the soundscape isn't extremely lush or varied. Temperatures here can be quite low, so wildlife needs to preserve energy and therefore do not call constantly. There are bursts of activity at dawn and dusk, with long lulls during daytime and at night. This is quite similar to other cloud forests I've visited, like Costa Rica or Ethiopia's highlands. It's very interesting to hear the various elements of the soundscape as they slowly come online with the rising sun.
There's also the element of flowing water. It is virtually impossible to get away from the distant sound of rushing rivers and waterfalls here, so the best I could do was find a large enough dip in the geography halfway up a mountain. Even so, you can still hear the distant rush of water. Initially I thought this would be a problem but of course this is the sound of the place, and removing the water element would be misleading. Mixed with distant cicada calls it sounds a bit like equipment noise, but after a while it starts to make sense and to sound like everything belongs.
Recorded around Gaoligong Mountain Nature Reserve in Yunnan, China with Zoom F3 and O-Mini P48 microphones. Enjoying the videos I upload on here? Feel free to support me by:

Welcome 😊
Lovely recordings George
Thank you!
Very good lovely sounds ❤❤
Great!
Wonderful!
Many thanks!
Nice
Thanks!
Very beautiful sounds, thank you! Could you please clarify did you remove noise and if yes in which soft?
I did not remove any noise.
More fantastic sounds?
The last couple of recordings you seem to have been using alternatives to Lom or Clippy Mics unlike before? are you having issues with mic longevity? Ran out of mics that weren't distroid or just trying something new?
Also it's been a while scince a soundscape album has appeared on Bandcamp. Have you stopped posting recordings there?
Thank You, Again.
I'm trying a whole bunch of microphones and I wrote about it on my blog: mindful-audio.com/blog/lavalier-microphones-for-field-recording
Unfortunately I haven't had any time to put together albums for Bandcamp. Maybe over the holidays if I don't need to go on expedition.
Beautiful sounds! Makes me want to be there. I noticed that the background noise level drops a bit each time the loud bird whistles. Did it happen during recording or is it on purpose in post processing?
Yeah I noticed that too. This is due to UA-cam's compression algorithm and there's nothing I can do I'm afraid.
Looks like UA-cam added a feature called Stable Volume that is basically a compressor/limiter. Once I turned it off, the background audio stopped dropping every time the birds sing.
Lovely, thank you for upload. Listening on nice headphones. Some of the bird dialogs are quite amazing. The depth of the sound for such small microphones is very nice! How far apart where they?
Around 15 cm with a tree trunk acting as a baffle.
@@GeorgeVlad thank you, interesting, I would it's at least 25cm
😮niceeee
Thanks!
